Asking this based on a recent conversation with a friend. We have very similar cards, his is Nvidia and mine AMD. He is getting close to double the FPS that I am. His setup has a little more HP in other areas, but mine seems to be video card limited (based on some experimenting with OCing).

So, out of curiosity, I'd like to see people post what video card they run and the range of FPS they usually see.

I'll start:

Radeon 7870
30-70 FPS

(and because someone will ask, the rest of my system: AMD 8 core processor, 16GB RAM, SSD drive)

60FPS for 60Hz monitors

CPU: AMD 8530 with h80i cooling
GPU: XFX HD7870
RAM: 8gb dual channel ripjaws x
SSD: 120 Gb rust installed on it

30-80 based on number of entities, but most of the time around 50, all settings maxed except shadows whitch is at around 100

Also, on a related note...

Rust runs fine on my desktop, but struggles to even get 5 fps on my macbook or HP laptop. I'm thinking about buying a new laptop just for playing Rust. Does anyone have a laptop it runs well on? Or any recommendations about the best laptop to run Rust?

Laptops are not for games, but if you must play on one, get one with beefy gpu, it matters more than cpu, something like intel 4400 would run it on medium settings without shadows i think

I think i get around 40 FPS with my GTX 560, but that was when I had my old AMD Athlon II X4 650 CPU, installing Rust as we speak to test it with my new i5-4460

I think you wont getting a lot more fps, even with athlon II 650 gpu was stil "bottlenecking", but please post the results i may be wrong

If a gaming laptop with dual 780m / 880m / or even 980m's are not for gaming then what are they for? I have a desktop with a 980 SC and a laptop with dual 880m's. My laptop out performs my desktop in many cases.

This whole laptops can't game is just an ignorant statement as it is not the core 2 era anymore. Technology has advanced but peoples knowledge on the matter has not.

You do realize you can get laptops with dedicated gpus versus an igp? An IGP especially you're always going to be limited even if it has lots of shader units and such. Why? System Ram. Laptops with dedicated GPU's have dedicated video ram as well.

Neil, look as MSI, Toshiba or Alienware (Dell) gaming laptop solutions.

I know you can play games on laptop, you can play pc games on every windows machine, but price range i gaming dedicated laptops are way too high, price for performance is very high for now, im sure mr. neil.hillman know that there are laptops that you can buy for 3000$ that can play rust, the point is tha its not affordable, and gaming laptops are not mainstream as desktop gaming pc's are...
