    Hey everyone!

I've set up a new rust server today, I must say, this is more challenging than I had expeceted.

But I have Oxide and a few commands working.

    Here's a list of problems I've encountered:

Animals are simply too fast, you can't outrun a wolf and you can't catch a pig, is there a way to change this?

The airdrops drop from the sky fine and dandy, but when they have dropped, they can't be looted, also, they seem to be spawning tree's, that you can't remove and can just walk through, I player has reported that this might be what is making his frames drop a lot.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

The ghostly trees can be fixed by quitting out and rejoining when encountered.

Pretty sure animal speed is as intended save for a few very minor tweaks. The idea isnt that you should be able to catch the animals on foot. Thats ridiculous. Get a ranged weapon or sneak up on them by crouching and staying behind them.

We've tried quitting many times and joining again, even restarted the server, they are still there. They are in the spot where the air drop falls EVERY time the plane comes.

If you're not able to get the animals with an axe, how are you supposed to get a ranged weapon in the first place? :)

If you can chase the animal to the water's edge or a hill, then you can catch them a kill them with a spear!

the speed is intentional, even if it makes things hard. personally i'd like to see the bow NOT cost cloth, or at least cost very little, or we have exactly the predicament you describe above; how do we get the ranged weapon in the first place?

in the mean time, go for pigs, they are the slowest and cornering them or running them in a straight line seems to work.

The wolves are ridiculous now though - they run at you at 100mph out of nowhere and take you down in seconds :< but yeah getting cloth to get a bow in the first place is just annoying now, I thought to myself ok I'll craft a pistol with a few metal fragments and wood (no cloth required), all you need is a furnace.... which requires low grade fuel.. which requires animal fat :(

Loot disappearing when you pick it up was a server bug which was fixed last night.

If it's still happening, the server you're playing on hasn't updated.

Yes, I agree that it's a problem. All the ranged weapons require cloth, and you cannot get cloth without a ranged weapon!

This is what I do, and is the only thing that seems to works for me at the moment... collect 500x wood, look for a stone/ore node, collect 200x stone. Make a stone hatchet and stone spear. Look for a bear, (they are easier to spot, and you don't have to catch them, they come at you). You should be able to defeat the bear with a stone spear, with the default ~50% health, unless you are very unlucky, it takes about 2 direct hits with the spear. Then use the hatchet to chop him up and get the cloth!

They need to add a textile plant that cloth can be made from. Didnt look closely on the mind map, hopefully coming.

Yes make trees drop small amounts of plant fiber, 10 fiber = 1 cloth

I tried playing last night when the update hit DEV branch and it was nigh on impossible to get a foot hold ended up using admin rights to get a bow.

Zon (who is doing the A.I) committed a change 15 hr ago to reduce animal acceleration, not sure when that will hit main branch tho. going to check it out on DEV branch in a bit see if it's any better.

yeah, so to confirm, pigs are best for chasing down. animals can sprint, but seem to have a limit to how long for/how many times. pigs tire relatively easily, whereas deer are fucking mad and never tire.

unfortunately even with a stone hatchet, one pig =35 cloth. not enough for a bow (50) or a sleeping bag(50 again).

Good. that's how it should be. Just at your fingertips, just out of reach.

    Challenging, but not impossible.

Thank you to everyone for the answers! :)

I am still looking for an answer about the airdrops and the ghost tree's that spawn around them, in a LARGE scale, causing massive frame drops and they are still there even after server restart.

Maybe a sort of bush that you can harvest for plant fiber?

garry on the changes to animals in the latest devblog:
Animals really don't want you to eat them. They now move closer to their real life speeds, weave back forth to avoid being hit, and try to flee out of view. However, animals can't maintain top speed for long. Dedicated hunters can catch their prey after the beast has become exhausted.

Animals now develop a pecking order. High ranked animals are given right of way while hunting and feeding. Equally ranked animals will duel each other to establish dominance.

You might feel like animals are too fast. Our feeling on this is that killing a deer should feel like a big achievement - as I'm sure it does in real life. It should take effort and cunning. We'll sort out the problems this causes in other ways (adding lootspawns, tweaking craft recipes, etc).

I managed to kill a deer with only a spear despite it having a FTL engine up its butt.
