Love this post, they have done alot of hard work with the reboot, and its gotten to an amazing place in visual terms.

But its nice to hear they have realised what made rust so enjoyable to many people, and cant wait to see what happens next year !

I'm so very glad they realized game play is more important. A lot of people i know and read about online were losing faith and fast. With this devblog 40 I feel much better about the game and it's direction, and will be happy to spread the word to my friends who have stopped playing/checking the blogs.

I hope that reworked experimental map will be detailed, have biomes, and will cover huge parts of the pregenerated map. If I were garry, I would design a new one, just for the sake of new adventures and some specific things like islands.

It's easy to keep the same map and just add islands to it, meaning that if you add rivers here and there... that creates islands :) .

I'd like to see the new version reach equivalent feature parity with legacy instead of bringing back the exact features 1:1; again, I disagree with garry. However, the lack of legacy baseline has pissed off a lot of people and garry's had to take the brunt of it, so I can't blame him for changing his mind.

If it helps make the game stronger, then so be it. EA does, after all, means that things will change.

There’s even been talk of bringing zombies back – but we won’t make any promises on that.
    oh god please no

People have finally stopped talking about zombies in this subforum after ten months after they were removed. The Rust fanbase has finally accepted this. Something other than zombies. Make them the fluffy chickens at least, even if it's going to be a placeholder.

I still believe that Rust is going to be a great game when it's finished, however.

HA HA HA! omg...yes, I do agree, it took forever to stop seeing posts about "Why No More Zombies", but...ya gotta admit, it was an aspect of the game that left an imprint.

It cant be 1:1 Legacy as over half the map was empty space. I mean it shouldnt without having the same flaws the original had.

When I read Garrys blog, I kept hearing the old counterstrike, "Terrorists Win."

God please no Zombies or red animals.

I'm excited for the legacy map, maybe theyll be super crazy and unlock the whole map for exploration instead of the southwest corner. Either way, nostalgia ahoy!

Great devblog, enhance Legacy, or make the new experiment as close as possible to Legacy.

You will make thousands of players happy.

It's hard to admit a failure, but it's even worst to ignore it.

I think you can make the best game ever if you embrace this.

    Thanks.

Been thinking about this over last couple of days, I really don't want zombies back (i am sure if the devs do put them back they will be good and implemented well)

I really jumped on the idea of robots (loose term) like the Caretakers, I was hoping they would expand and run with that idea. Biomechs, mutants and robots come to mind when i think RUST.i think decay, salvage, metal and ruin. not zombie Apocalypse.

I am really not feeling the love for zombies

RUST must be post-apocalypse game with zombies and rad animals (but i think need make optional options for separate activation\off zombies, rad animals).
    - More weapons
    - Customizable properties of items (resources need to craft, damage, armor and etc.) from xml, json file on server and server must send this customizable properties to clients on connect.
    - I VERY WANT crypting system for game packets, it's very important for game (easy algorithm of encrypt\decrypt packets by cryption key before Socket.SendTo \ after Socket.Recv, my mod RustExtended (with RustProtect on client-side) already make it on Legacy).

    The community has spoken.
Now we may never move away from the concepts of Legacy.
I WAS excited that new ideas were being explored.
Any new ideas going forward will once again agitate the diehards and will be squashed because 'Its not like legacy'

I'm not really against zombie-like humans. They don't have to be the flesh eating kind. The Stalker games had zombies, but they were humans that had their brains fried by radiation and they staggered around shooting at you. I'd be okay with that kind.

Hell yer its about time if people didn't like zombie they shouldn't of brought rust as it was a zombie game to start with and the devs should of stay with there original game idea as thats what we brought on day one!

instead of zombies (over-rated, overdone) what about radiated wolves that hunt in packs - come out at night - and live at the wolf statues (in the radiated areas...I mean it makes sense right? :P

Why not have zombies on certain part of the map Rad animals on another part, mercs on another section, giant ants or other bug like creatures. Why are we so stuck on have just one type of creature to kill and get items from. Why not have unique items drop from that unique creature(zombie, rad animals, mercs, giant bugs, wacked out robots. There are tons of things to put into rust to kill so lets not just get stuck on one thing and one thing only.

On a another note is there a chance that building is going to get difficult again. I mean i like the new way but it bloody safe to build. At the start you built your crack shack saved enough wood. Worked on making wood into planks then made your building parts. At current soon as i make a hatchet its easy street. Find lump of trees and you box your self in and build a cupboard destroy a wall make a door slap your lock on raid proof. I can make a fortress now in rust in 6ish hours where it would taken me a week or more to make something grand.

Dam that is the coolest bit of art ive seen for rust so far!

On the zombie issue, i never bought rust to fight zombies. In fact it wasn't till they took them out that i started to really get into it. The rad animals were ment as a placeholder, that being said, i rather liked them. I like the idea of the caretakers or robot thingys (from the concept art). I like the idea of giant ants in the desert, yeti's in the snow, drop bears in the forests....... list is endless with abit of imagination. We dont need such a rehashed idea like zombies, if there in rust will lose it's uniqueness.

As much as I think PvE servers and whatnot are stupid for games like dayz and rust, the PvE is really neglected in these games. For a loooong time Dayz had (and still has) a huge issue getting players to work together at all, and it was because the PvE was a joke.

The harder PvE is, the more likely the players are to work together, or atleast do something other than hunt eachother.

Don't get me wrong though, hunting eachother is pretty fun too
