Rust is going in the RIGHT direction.

For many years the gaming community has accepted the counter strike battle zone genre. The Rad towns, the pvp arenas, the capture the flag scenarios, all aimed at the congestion of the best pvp players who spend uber hours in repetitive fragging.

Not that the popularity of this genre should be diminished in any way, but we appear to be trending now to the more elaborate and expansive survival genre.

This is where Rust comes in to bridge this transition. Its good to:

    - have sprinkles of rad towns and arenas where players keep close by to go at it time and time again
    - have long extended journeys into new unfamiliar and risky territories where diminishing health and resources are the drivers
    - have crafting and building strategies that require long term planning and implementation
    - have environmental concerns at every corner, testing only the best survivalists (damn wolves)
    - have clans and cooperatives' that expand on all aspects

Putting aside some development issues, much the way I would to a child who was not yet a rocket scientist, I believe Rust and its development team is helping to shape this survival genre as well as the contributions from the community. Keep it positive. Play it forward.

I hope, that rust will be the Counter Strike of the survival genre. A game, which would finally not have differing opinions (like minecraft), but it would be the final, and ultimate survival game for like 10 years. Also, we need an ultimate modding kit.

I dont know if it will shape anything, survival genre is pretty much alive and working. It is a very interesting genre where games have a lot of unique aspects. Minecraft, Dayz, Rust, Forest, S.T.A.L.K.E.R (remember where rust came from!) they are pretty much uncomparable, althought have taken ideas from each other.

Thinking about Garry's mod and this: https://github.com/Facepunch/rust-sdk
We might will have something to mod rust with client-side too to get skins, new weapons and stuff through the Workshop or there is Pluton for server-side modding.

I am REALLY hoping that Rust focuses a lot on wilderness survival. I love the make your caveman style weapons but not enjoying the guns and other aspects that make it "typical" like the hazmat clothing and modern buildings and stuff like that.

I want to see a way to add server specific mobs, like in Killing Floor. This would also shut up the people crying out about no zombies now.

Agreed. The game needs a LOT more wilderness survival and a LOT less guns and fighting. If I can mod it I will. Should really start to look in to this...
