Does anyone think it would have been a better idea to just slowly update the game like the developers had originally planned? I was just curious if anyone else shares the same love of the legacy branch, the concept, the graphics, everything is just different compared to the newer branch, it's almost as if the legacy branch is more atmospheric. Personally, I don't like the direction the developers are going with the new branch - everything seems more cartoon-ish and with the rate that updates are being made, I feel as if Rust will never reach its full potential. I was just wondering if anyone else shared the same opinions, to be honest, it saddens me that the legacy branch will never be updated or changed (at least bug fixes would be nice).

I really liked legacy. They should have remade rust into what it was, but more efiicient. The new game is just not the same.

I miss legacy too and there are days when I play Legacy and I just wished Garry and his team would spend a few weeks fixing the major issues like exploits/bugs/cheaters.

However, I have accepted that they won't. I have accepted that they will use ALL their effort to work on a new Rust. I trust the developers that Rust will have better features and playability than Legacy even if right now Legacy is in terms of gameplay still the most enjoyable for most people. I trust the developers that they are right when they say fixing Legacy's issues is a waste of time. I bought into Early-Access for a reason, I have faith in Garry and his team and if they think they're doing the right thing then they probably are.

One thing people should never forget is that Garry and his team are if not more, just as passionate about this game as we are. They will not screw us over just like that. I can understand people thinking Rust will never reach full potential but I think the amount of progress made in certain weeks is amazing, we just have to be patient.

There have been a bunch of really good reasons why the devs have decided to redo the whole game.

Not only that but if you read the latest devblog they are openly admitting that it would've been the better move to recreate a version close to Legacy first, before starting to experiment with a lot of the things they have been doing over the past few months.

I love Legacy a lot and i've posted my fair share about how nice it would be if development would be continued, but also for abandoning Legacy there are very good reasons.

They will work on getting closer to Legacy baseline, but sadly this will take at least another 3 to 6 months at least.

Bottomline: go play a bunch of different games. H1Z1 is coming out in two weeks for instance. I love Rust as well, i reaaaally want to play a new and updated version of the experimental version as well.. But all it currently takes is patience.

My ideas for the game focus on wilderness survival. Using tree pitch as fuel for a torch, making rope from bark, woodland shelters not homes and buildings, wouldn't it be great to carve your own canoe or go spear fishing, what about making traps such as a deadfall to kill big game. If you can't find food, try looking under a log for grubs or other insects. Also, edible plants and harmful plants (to eat). Think Native Americans.

If they get it back to 1:1 of legacy with better graphics I'd love it... but right now I feel nothing, all the atmosphere has been sucked out (yeah in progress I know)

Legacy was simple, and by trying to make experimental bigger in every way they've failed.

Combining landscapes for me is a total immersion killer right off the bat.

Old rust map in new engine = win... get that rolling, then expand into whatever they want! Please both camps.

Bring the legacy sounds back too!

I have no played in a REALLY long time, but I would like to get back into it. More for the reason that I loved it when people would discuss ways to open the game and submit models and suggestions.

There is another issue that i have been scratching my head with, and what is Garry's vision of Rust? What is the Rust he wants to make. I tried to read some of his articles, and he often talks about "his vision." But I never found a good explanation of exactly what he is looking for.

Hit the nail on the head with that pic above. It's way to early to cast judgement on the new version yet, but 3 new posts a week of people dry humping Legacy.

I jumped into legacy for the first time in about 2 months yesterday and definitely not going back to play, only going back to support admins using RustEssentials: Legacy until they all make the jump or they release more sandbox stuff so the community can do some stuff with the legacy version.

My hope for Rust is that Garry starts off 2015 with a definitive roadmap. NOT a "mind map", a roadmap. I think that would really help everyone involved... including the dev team. I used to assume they were keeping it private (to avoid deadline expectations etc.), but now ... I really don't know.

I think I trust the dev team enough to not be overly concerned about wanting a road map of sorts. I guess I can understand why people would want one but I dont think that they intended to need to map it out for everyone.

The new version is starting to feel a lot more like the Legacy version was and according to the latest dev blog they will be jamming even more content from Legacy, we just need to be patient and give them time - now that they have finished much of the backend work they can start with the sweet content.
