So, I have wanted to play Rust Experimental for a while, except I have been a little hesitant because I used to have issues with the game actually blue-screening my computer (that seems to be fixed), and now it has been replaced with a new, much spookier issue.
    http://puu.sh/cM973.png
When I launch the game, it loads in normally, and I get into the main menu. From here I get essentially jump scared by this image. It flashes up for a frame and disappears straight away and then flashes again. After it has done this for a bit, it forces the game to force quit without any other mention.
So I do as the images suggests and I verify my game cache through Steam. I get back into the game and it seems good. The main menu is fine. Hurray! I click play game and get into the server browser and as I am about to select a server when it happens again. Verify cache again. Next time I actually start loading into the server, and it happens again. Verify again.

I'm seriously starting to think Facepunch has something against me. When I had the blue-screen issue, I also had an issue where if it didn't blue-screen, it would freak-out and mess with my computer for a couple minutes, pretty much crippling it, and it got to the point where it made my League explode half way through a game and force me to reinstall Rust, CS:GO and League. Not kidding.
...And now spooky bear jump scare.

    Can anyone help?

That's the EasyAntiCheat teddy bear. Facepunch is not trying to fuck with your computer, there's something else wrong with it. If Rust is blue-screening your computer, the problem is your computer, not Rust. If running Rust causes other games to break, like LoL, the problem is with your computer, not Rust. If Rust crashes on its own and everything else works fine, the problem is probably with Rust.

What video card do you have, and what version graphics drivers are installed? (xx.xx for AMD, xxx.xx for Nvidia)

Do you have DEP turned on in Windows?

Is this a legit copy of Windows and are you running any odd software like debuggers or unusual low-level system drivers? (Note: I am not accusing you of being a hacker, there are legit reasons for a computer to have things like this installed.)

are you opted in to the "development-debug" beta? i had the same popup when i accidentally switched to that instead of "development branch", and it would never get further than the loading screen.

I don't actually believe that Rust is haunting my computer, I just think it's kind of spooky how it all happened at once.
I have a legitimate copy of Windows 7, and I run a Nvidia GT330m with the 335.23 driver.
For DEP, it is currently set to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only."
As for the debuggers and system drivers, I don't think I have ever downloaded any debuggers like that, mainly because I have no real understanding of them and if something like that comes up I usually just pass on it, and I'm pretty sure my system drivers are at least somewhat up to date, however I will look into it a bit to see if I can do any upgrading anywhere.

My computer's specs are quite low, especially the graphics card, but when I played last I had no real issues with performance, and it has worked fine even from Legacy.

    Edited:

I'm currently not opted into any of the betas, because I still like to jump between Legacy and Experimental, however I'll give setting it to the dedicated Experimental branch a shot. Turns out I was misinformed about the branch instantly launching you into Experimental. Silly me. However when I did get in I still had the same issue, it showed up while I was in the server browser.

Had a look, and that driver in particular isn't compatible with my card, said so on the website and in the installer. I will try and look for a new driver though.

Thanks for the help guys, if you have any more information/ideas on how I can solve this issue I would be grateful, but for now it looks like I might just have to wait it out. Apparently some others are having the issue as well and no matter how many times I reinstall the game I face the same issue.

Well, if there's a newer compatible version than 335.23, go to that. Drivers are usually worth a shot, but if you're on the latest available to your card, it's obviously something else. (Although you could try reinstalling the driver in case it's become corrupt, but I wouldn't do that as a first resort.)

Do you use antivirus or other security software? If so, please name what you use.

I don't, actually. I used to have AVG but since then I have either uninstalled it or it expired. I'm updating the driver now to something a bit more recent and I'll get back to you on how it goes.

Updated the driver, the image came up immediately after the game finished its check and the menu background loaded up. The "Play Game" button didn't even pop up before the game force quit.

Since it appears to be an EAC issue, did you ever try to reinstall EAC? Guess this is the first thing i would like to try before changing anything else on my system.

Setup file is in [your Steam directoy]\Steam\SteamApps\common\rust\EasyAntiCheat

Should have said this before, but that was one of the first things I tried. It installed instantly (which I assume means it found EAC already installed and just completely skipped the installation or something) and nothing changed when I loaded the game, same issues.

You have no AV, and EAC is complaining of files not matching. Hint. Hint.

I can see how you would see that as suss tbh. However I'm luckily not stupid enough to use and hacks on an account with 66 games and hundreds to thousands of hours invested in it.
Also I wouldn't risk that Cyrex you feel me.

You could also be infected with malware (not hacks).

Actually I was hinting your system might be compromised. Not that you were using hacks.

could be the case. I'll look into it. Just seems weird that nothing else has been affected by it or anything.

    Well I'll be damned.
I forgot to mention above that I've had Malwarebytes installed on my computer and that it did scans pretty much daily. I downloaded AVG again and did a full scan and found no errors, and I thought I was out of luck. However, I checked Malwarebytes again to see that some of the files had broken over time, and after a clean install and a scan I found a few results that I got rid of. Sure enough the game ran fine after that.

Thanks a lot for the help guys! I really appreciate it. Sorry for the late reply, I was away for a few days with Christmas and everything. I owe you guys one.
