I would prefer if regen for walls was removed at made it so the house owner had to repair it with resources. Is regenerating health for walls temporary? It doesn't make sense for walls to be magically repaired. Also, how would regenerating walls work with decay?

I don't mind the regenerating walls, but it does seem silly that they regenerate without having to put any additional resources into them.

It would be cool if the cupboard had storage slots that you could load up with wood, stone, and metal frags that would server as the reserve for regeneration. Then once those are depleted, regen would stop until the cupboard was refilled.

made this suggestion post because i don't think the regen makes sense in a few ways:) i like the autobuild, but honestly, without some effort on the defenders behalf, the wall should come down if it is hit enough.

Upvoted. Healing walls should definitely cost resources and be breakable. There's no penalty for a homeowner unless your wall is completely demolished from a raider and that shouldn't be.

I really love this idea, It would also work with decay,.. the walls decay and automatically repair from your cupboard "stockpile". But once the cupboard runs out of material/supplies. then the house starts to decay naturally.

So not only will old unused houses decay, but you can't also fill up your cupboard and not log in for a day or tthree without worrying that your base will be decayed and gone.

It's a decent idea, but wouldn't it just be easier to assign a non regenerative health point to a wall and also be more logical? I mean, say I'm hatcheting a wall and get jumped by a couple people and get in a fire fight. I kill them, heal and go loot their bags. By the time that's done, all the progress I made hatcheting will be gone.

that's exactly my point:) the damage inflicted shouldn't just magically heal up, but it should still take a while to break down a wall without the right tools. for example, give the wood wall 5,000hp, the stone 10,000 and the metal 15,000. each weapon already has a destruction factor based on the quality of the weopon, so the stone does barely any damage, but a metal pick could carve through it like butter.

as said though, i love the autobuild, because it means that the wall starts off weak when first placed and can be broken by raiders.

    Completely agree with this idea.

People can make the argument that regenerating walls is unrealistic, and it is, but at the same time it is equally true that if somebody started to break down the walls of your house you would wake up and try to stop them.

This idea balances the need for offline defense while still requiring effort from the defender.

Also adds another reason to collect those resources after you've built a megafortress.

As I agree with you that auto-regeneration doesn't make any sense, i'm not a fan of your suggestion you're giving on the support forum. You're saying: "in my opinion, ANY weapon should be able to break ANY surface" - I don't like that idea, and hated that ability with the previous build system. Anyone with a bit of patient could just get inside a base. I don't think it should be like that. People should use heavy tools to break someones wall. An item that should be somewhat expensive and only be available through blueprints. I think it's just not the right way to break building objects with a simple rock or hatchet.

    Edited:

Yeah, good point. stonecutter's idea could be pretty interesting!

    Yes.

I hadn't even thought about how it could tie in with decay. Love that idea.

Keep your cupboard stocked or your base starts to decay. It would need to be a very slow drop relative to melee attacks to not have it be a constant battle to keep it full. But if you neglect your cupboard you will pay for it.

It also makes other people's cupboards even bigger targets. Imagine the loot you could get if you managed to get to the cupboard of a large base.
