I finally had a chance to play the new update for a couple of hours last night. Overall impression was good.

    Random Pros & Cons

Buildings - The new wood textures/models look great. I like the platform-like wood foundation, and the little cracks in the walls you can peek through. The stairs/ramps are obviously meant for the roof and they look good too. The collapsing animation for the wood parts I removed was cool also. Yea for stability! I didn't have a single piece just disappear after being placed. I did notice that the building piece silhouette (or any item really) would randomly disappear and I'd have to re-select it a few times.

I didn't try raiding (I was on an empty server), so I don't know about the super strong issue with walls. Don't really care at this point since there's no real point in raiding except the thrill of stealing someones wood pile.

Hunting - Didn't really have a problem with this. It is harder, but hunting is hard! In real life I've spent all day trying to get deer, and that's with a hunting rifle! Honestly, running up and killing a deer with a spear should be impossible unless you sneak up on it somehow. Anyway, I bagged a pig after a few tries, made a bow, shot a bear that couldn't follow me onto a rock and got a shit load of meat. It actually feels more balanced now because I needed the bow instead of just using a spear on everything. Before I would just stand in front of a bear, take my 2 hits from him, and kill him with 2 spear hits. Now just get them to go on low rocks so they're not too easy to kill.

Gathering - Way better! Head bob decreased and sounds are sooo much less distracting. The swing speed of the tools feels much better also.

Cooking - I really wish it only cost 50 wood to cook meat. It's so annoying trying to count out the stupid 10 extra wood. Make human meat looked cooked. I also had a fire on the sand just disappear when the fire went out. Everywhere else I placed it it seemed fine.

Torches - Yay! They don't sound like a city block is burning down in my headphones!

Sounds - BIG improvement in a lot of the sounds! I don't have to play in 3rd person anymore when gathering.

Airdrops - Those planes are awful, stuttering annoyances. Also, the server I was on just kept dropping the cargo in the middle of a lake. There were piles of airdrops that you couldn't open. Is this a bug, or can you not open them in the water?

Distance - I can see far again!

Note: I played on an empty server so I could try out the building in peace, so I wasn't able to fight anyone or raid. I'll try that this weekend!

Agreed big time with the hunting. It shouldn't be easy. Agree with the buildings.

The thing that made me stop playing the new update after 15 minutes was the skipping around of players. That's the biggest killer for me. Also, out of the 3 bags I attempted to loot, I was only successful with 1. The other 2 had the "loot" icon on screen, but I couldn't access the bag.

I was playing with a friend and I did notice he was skipping around. Wasn't sure if it was his connection or not. If everyone is doing this it would have been almost impossible to shoot him!

I havent noticed the skipping but it may be a lag or fps issue. I got a decent headshot on a raider last night as he was running... Shouldnt carry the salvage hammer and then say your just looking!

I noticed last night a bit of an issue with Lanterns, had about 8 stacked in my inv and when moving them to the belt bar to deploy them, the first one would work, the second one would not and I would have to drag back into inventory and then to a new belt bar to get it to deploy.

Other than that last night was the longest I have spent in the new Rust ever, about 6+ hours building a huge citadel so thanks I have got the bug again!

Good to hear! They're definitely making progress. The only problem I have is the ability to build a huge citadel in only 6 hours. I just think resources are far too abundant at this point.

No last night for me was a bit of an admin job to really get in and test out to see how the build system is going as I haven't been able to play due to a crashing issue that has just resolved itself. I spawned all the gear in to build it and spent the 6 hours on design and actual building.

I did notice in some spots though huge amounts of resources then in other areas - none!

as a point of interest, i cooked chicken breast at 60 pieces of wood and it was burnt, so it's possible there will be variances in how long things cook for.

nice post, good to see one that gives some positive feedback for once;) there are plenty of threads about the bugs; if i was a dev it would get me down only seeing them.

That's what I was thinking too. I was almost scared to play the updated version after reading all the posts about it. I mean, yea there's some bugs and not everything I said was positive, but really overall I see these updates addressing what a lot of people have been bitching about.

I had fun playing last night!

I had the same problem, it hasn't been fixed as of today, i played for a while on the Rustafied dev server and it was happening there too.

    Edited:
