Good evening Facepunch,
I run the server VanRust and today a new server popped up on the community listing acting like my server.
My server IP is 119.252.190.249:49425 & server hostname is [AU/NZ Official] VanRust | Wiped 10/12/14 | 1337 Seed
The Server that has appeared has an IP of 54.66.231.22:28015 & hostname [AU/NZ Official] VanRust | Wiped 14/12/14 | 1337 Seed.
I guess this is a form of flattery ?? but anything I can actually do about this???
Regards
Rhys (VanRust Owner)

I am not sure but I don't think there is anything to stop people from doing this if is a simple copying of the name of your server.
I guess just make your community aware that this is happening so they are aware which one is the original VanRust server...

I am not sure whether what the Russians were doing (always wanted to say something like that, lol) is the same. What they are doing is spoofing IP addresses to forward fake traffic to their server or something like that.
This is different in the sense that someone is just copying the naming convention of glasknirs server 'vanrust' so people will join that one thinking its the real one. IMO that's the same as DDoSing a server to force people off someones server and into theirs.
So yeh, no real controls against it. I could easily change my name to VanRust as well and wouldn't expect any official backlash, which is a shame - I know how hard some admins work to get a population going. For someone to get high population from doing something like that and avoiding all that hard work many of us go through is quite shit...
