Travelling to a new server via the sea has been talked about a lot did not think it would be implemented, this is a cool idea,

Got A shit admin just pack up and move out(shouting screw you from the deck of the ship). wonder if we will be able to take our stuff to the new server?

i noticed boat which i expected but also flight is on there, i hope it's microlights (like the one in mad max 2)

so many cool ideas that i thought the devs might have missed on the forums are on there.

Edit: I got a lot of answers to questions i had about the direction of the game from this one document. Great Post :)

Edit Edit: utilitron Where did you find that i thought i watched all the site/threads about rust ?

Whoo hoo! Yes! Yes! *Does a little jig* (sailing to another island bit)

I knew it was a good idea.

Edit: Still think its dangerous for Garry to be showing us this. In case things go awry, you know this is going to come back to haunt them.

Much of the early access games not even does a single devblog, while rust is like reading the book while the writer is working right near you.

Cars....hmmmmm.....I'm assuming these would be spawned randomally throughout the world and would need crafted parts to get them running? I would hate to see cars as a craftable item and have everyone driving around.

Why? Don't be too short sighted here... there is a lot of variables at play that would make this be rare even if players can craft. especially if you have to first get the blueprints.

Server transitioning is an interesting concept. I'd think that due to differences in configs between the servers and what not at some point in your travel between servers you would do some kind of reset BP wise perhaps. Clothing and ammo you could most likely be able to keep.

Kind of opens the realm of possibility of server v server type battles, spies from other servers etc. Should work well if implemented properly.

I wonder how the servers would align though, as in, would there be an admin setting where the adjacent servers IP's could be added in at each cardinal point of the map? I'd love to be able to be 'adjacent' to some of the admins that I know!

I was thinking about this, the possibility's are astounding, empires built over a few servers, mass raids on other servers,

Modded servers are going to pose a problem unless only un-modded servers will only be connected to the world network of traversable servers.

I was against this but i am starting to think we should take our learnt knowledge with us when we move servers or have the option to start a fresh when we move.

I don't see where it would be a big deal that if you wanted to have server travel setup you just have to have a certain set of options configured. Mods are cool and all, but for me being able to travel to other servers would supersede the option of having mods.

You can travel to other servers, you just arn't the same player. I see no reason why anyone would want to travel to other servers. I could set up my own server and build myself up without any problem and then go to other servers and kill everyone who has spent a lot of time surviving getting to where they were. Sounds completely impractical and unfair.

Actually no. At least on the proposal I gave awhile back you would be limited to what you had on you and what the boat would hold. So you could only pick and choose what you carted. You wouldn't be entering that island with a base or anything. Just the supplies you and your boat could cart. You could only return your character to your previous island by sailing back. Not by say exiting and then choosing the old server from the server list. In that case it would create a new character on your old server.

Also the proposal would require both server operators agree to connect to one another. So no, you couldn't just build yourself up on your own.

I can see the beaches of servers becoming a d day scene. Battlements on the land side and invading server forces trying to make a beach head. Sounds like fun actually.

That would be really cool -- admins being able to set "allied" servers and players could connect with those.

If this were to happen then this would increase the need for maps especially those from other servers, so eventually it wouldn't just be one map per server you could look at but a series of maps all joined to look like one big map.
I like the idea of Server Wars.

    Sailing between servers, please yes!

Balance is tricky. For a start, no admin spawned/uber hatchet gathered items should be transferable.

    But I love the idea.
