Im curious how long it would have taken to recode rust in unity 5/ whatever programs they are using. Making it as similar to legacy rust as possible, but recoded so the code isnt aweful and using whatever progams they are using now. Also factor in that the developement team has grown.
Im sure people who are much more familiar with programming and designing games than me could estimate how long they think it would take. Maybe even garry could let me know.

Point out: They do not reprogram legacy, it will be a lot different from it and is even now.
But currently if they could simply take in the original map (dont know if they can, I just suppose) without changing, taking in the few remained guns and elements, making a single loot spawning... It seems like they do atleast that much of work on the game per week. :P

Why would they make it exactly the same when they have the opportunity to make it better, which is what they're in the process of doing now?

Based off of what I have seen I would suspect if they didn't work on making anything better or adding procedural generation, water, new building system. I would estimate the game would have been on par with legacy about two weeks ago, give or take a week. The point is that game while fun to play was severely limiting.
This is purely subjective based on what has been ported over, and my estimate on how long the improvements we have and haven't seen are taking. For the record I am a software engineer myself so I have a somewhat decent knowledge of development times.
