What about making destructible building on a randomly generated map, and also giving a chance to use them up as resource?
Before everyone rushing to the disagree button, or to write "go play minecraft", I declare: I mean to make destructible nothing EXCEPT the small-medium no-loot buildings which would have an ability to be inhabited.
Just look at my idea: The apocalypse is over, it's around 30-200 years since then (I suppose). There are the radiation/dangerous-zones, which may still contain something, as it is dangerous to just loot. But there may be plenty of buildings not that dangerous, which were completely looted, as it was a goldmine for early-birds.
I mean, there may be residental areas, with buildings, which may be inhabited. Like I said these would be destructible, as any player-made house is, and also not that stable and complete. You would have to repair the walls, baricade all holes on the house so you can make it defended aganist looters. In these areas there would not be any loot, except that you may destruct walls and use it up as resource.
I think that would make a bit of extra to the game, though it may be used up at the first few days of the map.

Hm, I like it. Making pregen structures in a special state where they give decent resources when hit and building components can be destroyed in a few hits, and allowing players to upgrade pieces of it, making the pieces into a normal player wall for a fraction of the price to make a wall normally.
I think Garry could do it some day and it might be worthwhile. Reminds me of a thread someone made about allowing decent resource gain for tearing down heavily decayed player houses in order to nautrally reduce clutter. I am guessing the decent resource gain from decayed things mechanic would have to come first before we change up the monument system.
