Since when can a pig , chicken or bears out run me?
It is making it so that resourcing meat is a BAR only weapon. If your a fresh spawn you will be running everywhere just to get meat

Just sit near the meat, collect resources, and eat people who go after the meat. Problem solved.

chickens shouldn't. pigs really should run about the same speed as us. rabbits are very fast, but their real strength is their size and their powerful legs. bears can be pretty damn fast for how heavy they are, and wolves are probably about the same(though they hunt in packs and stalking the weakest prey they can find). deer would run goddam rings around you, bounding around like a damn pogo-stick.

so long story short, chickens and pigs should be a bit slower than us, wolves, bears and rabbits the about the same speed as us(or a little faster with a way for us to escape like them not being able to get up on rocks), and deer should be faster than Usain Bolt.

Ok, yea...I get it, the reality of what animals can do in real time.
Unlike the Rust "reality", it was adjusted and it was a dramatic difference.
And this is very true, a pig or chicken should not be able to out run me. Bear? Ok, I yield. Wolves? Most definitely.
My issue is for the sake of new spawns. The speed in which you attack has now been lowered. If all you have is a rock and your having to chase a pig down (that is already faster than you) you will starve.
One of the main servers I play on already has you respawning with 50% health and hunger around 35% (Yes, I know, the admin has the controls and I should speak to him, moot point)
I saw a new spawn chasing a pig and he went for about a good 20 seconds turning and weaving all over the place until he had so many animals behind him from all the aggro that he himself eventually died. Funny but at the same time alarming

A wild boar or hog can run as fast as a human, but domestic or farm pigs run considerably slower. Maybe, (just for the sake of new spawns), the pigs could run more like the speed of domestic or farm pig, rather than the speed of a wild hog?

I think the key word[s] there are "as fast as a human", that would seem more natural.
Currently, as I outlined ALL animals are out running a human.
I don't believe a complete adjustment to actual species is necessary but I do believe some tweeks should be made. Aggro is to far out as animals around the 20 feet range bolt when entering range giving them the advantage of a head start as well.

Agreed, if the animals didn't consistently keep outrunning us, but rather moved a bit more randomly, speeding up, slowing down, changing direction more, etc, we would have more of a change to catch them up or corner them. Rather than just running away from you at a constant speed.

Last time i had to run away from a fast dog.....i trained it onto a new spawn and that worked. Try it.

I kill everything with a spear when I first start. Takes me under 10 mins to gather a few steaks.

If you're a fresh spawn and you're still using a rock to kill things, you really need to learn how to play.

Step 1: Bash the hell out of a tree until you get enough wood.
    Step 2: Make a spear.
    Step 3: Go hunting.

Doing this will allow you to survive if a bear attacks you while you're chasing another animal. You can kill a bear or a wolf if they attack if you only have a spear and still survive it by running backwards and stabbing at it like fury.

However, I'd like to see more animals, especially in desert areas. Small things that don't give a lot of meat or cloth but run far more slowly and can allow a new spawn to survive and get some materials to be competitive.

I dont really have any of these issue's?

I have had the most problems with deer.
But i just keep running after them it takes a few seconds but there comes a point when the deer stops.
This allows you to catch up and jab it with your speer.
This wont take up more than 1 minute per deer.

Killing the boar seems to be the most easy.
I've jabbed it multiple times before it even thinks of running.

Don't know what you're talking about, I catch up to chickens and hogs just fine.

I even catch up to deers when they get tired and stop running after a few seconds.

Just make sure you're not running up/down hill since that slows you down but not the animal.

    Tryst,

Although I agree with you, I do believe you missed what I wrote.

It has nothing to do with a weapon, it was only mentioned due to the decrease in weapon speed set on last update.
However, for the sake of argument. Not all "fresh spawns" are seasoned players. I have over 400 hours on this game and am pretty regimented. I can be up and running with bolt, ammo, food and a T4 2x4 in 45 minutes. I know how to play, however this last update with animal speed (which has been confirmed) it has it so you can't even approach an animal.

yeah noticed that last night on one of the official servers. only chickens (like 10 of them all around me) and they run across mountains like they have built in crampons, while i chase them and slide back down hill...

they need to be affected by terrain like we are.

I haven't had too much of an issue catching animals. If one gets away, I wander around till I find easier prey. Sometimes, they do spot you a good ways off and manage to stay a good distance away and other times I just run up and kill the shit out of them before they even think about running.

Get a couple quick kills off a chicken or pig, then make a bone knife. The amount of resources you get when using the bone knife is AWESOME! Once I have that I go after bears because you don't have to chase them - two stabs from a spear and the bear is dead. You only lose about 30-40 health before the bleeding stops on it's own, less with a bandage, and then eat a piece of meat to heal back up. With the bone knife you get so much meat, cloth, and bone fragments from 1 kill you won't have to hunt for days.

I had no idea you could use the bone knife for gathering! That is f**ckin awesome. I always wondered what the hell the point of it was considering the spear is a much stronger melee weapon and is easier to make... now it makes sense and I feel pretty dumb for not thinking of that.

Haha. I played for days and never tried it, but figured I'd see what happened when I used it on an animal. I got like 3 or 4 pieces of meat from a chicken with it! Bears are like goldmines when you use it.

the bone knife used to be glitched enough to give like 200 cloth from a single animal corpse; don't know if that ever got patched out because i just use a stone hatchet for all my harvesting:)

When did the bone knife start working again for harvesting? I haven't played in a week and a half and before that, it hadn't worked in over a month.

You can right click on skulls to convert them to bone fragments, in case you dont know.
