Post #1I started playing tonight on the official seattle server, there are no wolves or bears ANYWHERE. I am only seeing those damn chickens which I am pretty sure are un-killable. Has anyone else been experiencing this? I have checked in every biome, no wolves or bears, only chickens :(

I'm on Seattle too, and I've hardly seen any. I saw a deer yesterday but couldn't even get close with a spear to kill it.

Totally agree, animals are becoming extremely hard to find, other than immortal chickens...
Most on my server die of starvation before they find one.

I managed to chase a chicken into deep water, and I saw Twitter posts about making animals NOT do that. I think when the patch is live on monday you will start seeing more animals.

Has it been confirmed anywhere that a patch will be on Monday? From reading the dev blog, the latest version went live on Thursday the 27th.

Ive been told by a few different people who own servers that they expect it monday, so I'm just believing what I'm told.

We're hearing the same on our servers.
I think the issue is that when an animal dies, a random animal spawns in its place. Chickens are unkillable, so eventually you only have Chickens left.
Could be wrong but that was our theory.

Is the unkillable chicken thing something new, like in the last week? Because I was able to kill several chickens before the build update went out to all the servers. I didn't get any cloth so I didn't bother going after them again. They would turn a strange orange color after you whacked them with a hatchet. Then they only gave one wolf meat.

Think iDyn has the right of it. Animals should die after X game days, replaced by any other animal. Or prevent one type from being a new spawn if they make up Y% of the current population.

Animals have been hunted to extinction on the official servers! I played on a community server with only a couple of people today and found plenty.

That's just stupid, how the hell am i going to press F12 to take a screen shot WHILE I'm trying to kill a chicken?? go to the doctors and get your brain checked.

Chickens give wolf meat but no cloth. A bit pointless unless you just need food. They are about the easiest to kill unless you have a gun.
Make a stone spear and you can kill them quite easily but your attacks have to be accurate. It took me a while to figure out what stones you can collect stone, metal ore and sulphur from though, I would have thought you could collect stone from ANY stone.
As for a screenie of killing the chicken, take it AFTER you've killed it, maybe while you're bashing the crap out of it with the hatchet to get the meat, that shows the meat being collected from it too.

Maybe take the pic of it dead, after you kill it?
I chased one round Ams3 for about 20min with a spear but no luck.

I chased a chicken around last night for 6 minutes like some spastic Rocky Balboa, hitting it dead on with every melee weapon I could construct with absolutely no effect. I'm sure some people are having success on some servers, but there's an obvious hitbox issue.
Given the fact that there are few to no harvestable animals on some servers, I've heard players mention committing suicide inside their base and harvesting meat from their own corpse. I'm sure there's a metaphoric comparison to be drawn there somewhere.

Agreed, animals are not respawning, (or if they are, they are gradually all being replaced by immortal chickens, as iDyn suggested).
I played for 3-4 hours and didn't see a single animal.
Cloth is almost as rare as dead chickens... (although if GrymThor says he killed 2, he did, he has no reason to lie)...

Grym must have found a way to bypass a bug in the code that prohibits the rest of the entire community from being able to kill chickens right now...

GrymThor spent days building the most epic treehouse on Rust, and then build a second one next to it, so that he could join them together, "ewok village" style, and posted photos of the whole process in the forums for us to see. I don't believe someone with this kind of dedication and commitment is going to lie about killing a couple of chickens, just to impress us.
I believe that the "hitbox" on chickens is so small, that it takes either blind luck or dog-eared determination to kill one.

The following pics are just for you all non-believers, the chicken was originally white, when it dies it looks roasted. Which it was later, and tasted like wolf. (smug face)
You can see the blood coming from the chicken which is undeniable proof that A)I'm hitting a chicken, B)its dead, and C) i'll be having Chicken Tonight.
