    Hi,

I have played rust for a while now. 83 hours actually. I used to have no problem playing the game but for the last 2 weeks or so I've not been able to stay connected to any servers. I join and spawn but then I am kicked after about 10-20 seconds.

So for I've tried deleting EAC and re install. Re installed the whole game multiple times with no joy either. Also the same thing happens on the beta branch.

    Any help much appreciated

Are you running Rust from Steam, or through RustClient.exe?

Do you have any security software installed? If so, what is it?

I run rust through steam and I have MSE (Microsoft security essentials)

    Edited:

Ok I tried to start rust via the .exe and I've had the same result. Crashed after a few seconds.

Running it through RustClient.exe bypasses EAC and will get you kicked within a minute. I wanted to make sure you weren't doing this, because if you were the result is predictable. It's not supposed to happen when launching through Steam, so we know there's a problem.

What happens if you disable MSE and try Rust through Steam?

    I see 400 - Bad Request

    What does that mean?

    Edited:

btw I did find I could join on one server and actually stay connected. Its not always the same server that I can stay connected to though, so that makes it hard.

Just checking if you can connect to the server at all, a 400 error is what is expected.

Any chance you guys are using Bullguard?

No I'm not using bullguard, never even heard of it.

What do I do from now? Seems I'm locked out with no way in!

What's in your F1 console when you get disconnected?

Also, what's your Steam ID? (No, I'm not accusing you of being VAC banned. Nor do I want to stalk you.)

    Steam ID is steveb_81

From the moment I join this is what F1 says.

Well, that doesn't seem like an EAC issue. Does this happen with all servers?

Also, strange, I don't see Rust on either Steam account that comes up when searching for your name. I wasn't asking for piracy-checking reasons, but that's odd. Are you using family sharing?

No sharing at all. Try iracer_steve.

  15. Post #15
Any reason you didn't give me that account in the first place? You've never gone by steveb_81 as an alias on it.

What are your system specs? CPU, RAM, video card.

Also, your video driver version. I'm looking for the major number, so for Nvidia it's xxx.xx, and AMD it's xx.xx, the Catalyst suite version (it may not always be two digits, e.g. 14.9 is the latest stable AMD release).

When you asked for steam ID I did not know what you meant. steveb_81 is the name of my account it's right there in the top right corner. iracer_steve is the name that comes up on games. I've no idea which is the steam ID.

  17. Post #17
Your Steam ID actually is STEAM_0:0:23937814. Google can tell you what a Steam ID is. I would've been fine with your profile URL as well. Just a note: NOBODY except Steam Support ever needs to know what your Steam login is, searching by your name or Steam Community profile URL, OR Steam ID if known.

For future reference, if someone asks you your Steam ID and you don't know how to get that pack of numbers, just go to your own Steam profile page and right-click > Copy page URL and paste it to them if you want to tell them.

Your driver is several versions out of date (Nvidia released 4 updates in a month!), but that shouldn't really cause a problem.

But I'd appreciate if you could provide the rest of the info I asked for.

Yes driver is slightly out of date because I dont like to set up nvidia surround every time a new driver comes out. 3x 24's

Is this not a port problem ?

Start by answering the questions I've asked ericshin:
    - Steam ID
    - system specs (CPU, RAM, video card, graphics driver/suite version)
    - security software installed, if any
    - what happens if you disable the security software (if installed)

(The question about resolution was because of ericshin's three monitors. Never mind this unless you also have a multimonitor setup.)

Also, to both of you, I have a few network-related questions to ask:

    1. How are you connected to your home Internet connection? I want a full explanation. As an example, my computer connects to my cable modem/router (one box that does both) by Ethernet, and then it plugs into the wall and out it goes. If you are wireless say so now.

1a. If you're wireless, how far are you from the wireless access point (router, modem, etc.) and how many walls are between you and the access point? What is the building constructed out of? If you're not on wireless, ignore this part completely.

    2. Have you rebooted your networking equipment since this started happening? If not, follow these steps in order:

    a) Shut down PC.
    b) Unplug the power cables from your modem and router (if they are separate devices). Leave the Ethernet cables plugged in exactly as they are.
    c) Plug the modem back in, but not the router (if it's a separate box), and wait a few minutes until the modem's lights are doing their normal thing. You may not see blinking lights signifying traffic, but you're rebooting the network so this is expected.
    d) If your router is separate, plug its power back in.
    e) Either way, turn your PC back on once the modem is ready, even if you have a separate router and it hasn't finished booting yet.

    Try again.

Also, check the F1 console every time you test Rust. If anything changes significantly, paste it into this thread.

Avast security, if i disable it for 10 min and try to connect it does nothing different, cant connect to any server still.

And im connected with a Router that is rather new, and I port forwarded on the previous one so my Rust worked then...

  25. Post #25
SPYNeox, please go into the new router and forward ports as you had set up before.

And also do the network reboot-in-stages steps. I'd also like you to check to see if there is a driver update for your Ethernet card, because there have been connection issues in the past that've been caused by out-of-date NIC drivers, and your machine is a bit of an older one even though it's likely had upgrades to keep up.

One thing the two cases have shown me is that it affects high-end machines who should, by rights, not even flinch while running Rust, and somewhat-older machines approaching the minimum spec.

This leads me to believe that it might be more networking dependent than software (like a firewall) interfering. I'm not ruling software interference out, but before I start telling people to kill their firewall, I want to try less-drastic alternative directions, like rebooting the home network stage by stage.

FYI, I am not a Rust dev in disguise or anything. I'm just a user. I've never seen this error before, but I'm trying my best without asking anyone to do risky things that could fuck up their computer.

Well my firewall I put off... and even put off my Avast and didnt work, so it must be the Ports, but where can I find the proper ports for this current rust ? Ive only found something like this " 28015" and for EAC is "50300 TCP" but Ill try them tomorrow.
    and these http://steamcommunity.com/app/252490...0445693549238/

Also not sure how you update Ethernet cards...

  27. Post #27
Don't trust posts from 2013, those refer to legacy and experimental is not necessarily the same.

Your Ethernet controller device has a software driver. That software driver can be updated. I'm guessing that you're using the built-in one on your motherboard instead of installing a separate card. Go to the driver download/support page for your motherboard's manufacturer.

If your computer was purchased pre-built (for example, if you bought a machine from, say, Dell Computers), the manufacturer is the place that assembled the machine (Dell.com in this example) instead of going straight to the actual component maker.

My PC is connected to a modem and the modem is connected to the ONT. I have a 30 Mbit/s fibre connection.

Yes I tried to power cycle my modem and ONT but no joy with that one.

I built my PC myself. There is no ethernet card installed.

  29. Post #29
OEM for drivers, then. Also, I'm jealous. I have 50Mb down for cable, but a pathetic 3Mb up.

But let's not turn this into a thread about comparing ISPs.
