I stopped playing way back maybe 6 months ago, I started back on the web browser version and got tired of the hacks and what not.. I heard from a couple friends since the new rust came out there not as many or not as noticeable now or something..

What is your opinion.. should i give it another shot?

I really enjoyed this game.. but spending all day, 1 full real life day getting a base up and then it just getting taken by speed hackers to the first couple air drops.. was annoying..

If you are willing to tolerate a LOT of early development bugs and performance issues, give it a shot, it's shaping up to be a wonderful game. If you want something somewhat polished, I would advise you wait a bit longer.

Edit: Hackers/cheaters are very rare in my experience, but there are frequent server wipes

I haven't seen any hackers latetly. Im not saying there arent any but, their numbers are way fewer then on legacy. As for the game itself.... Its playable but expect alot of wipes, if u want your base to stay forever... dont play :)
Also, alot of development is coming... but when? i dunno...

There are no hacks / hackers currently on the main branch, (as far as I know).

The main branch is now the new Experimental version, the old version is called Legacy, and is still full of hackers. New version is still very much in development, and there are a few bugs and exploits, (different from hacking), that people can use to grief you or enter your base... but no hackers.

Why not just try it for yourself and see?...

I wouldn't say "no hackers" exactly...

I wouldn't spend too much time building an uber fort. Put up a basic shelter if you can and join the murdersome masses as quickly as possible. You'll likely get bored of that eventually, but at least you'll be able to get through the basic game mechanics that way and do some play-testing.

I'm probably not going to sink more than an hour or two a week on it until things reach a more stable state with the servers, but following along with the dev branch and blog posts has been interesting.

oh there are definitely actual hackers. im surprised you missed my thread with the proof.
as a server admin, in the past few weeks ive been seeing more and more unfortunately.

right now though this is your best source if you want to see some hacks, as i regularly delete my could storage (thus removing the proof you ask for) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...QuA/edit#gid=0

direct link to a example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SHNZkFi4oA

EDIT: there are far stronger hacks than what you see here, such as entity/player location with range in meters, no clip, jumping halfway across the map. needs to get nipped in the bud soon, as 1 hacker can wreck a entire server in a very short time. it happened the other night which is why i created that thread in the first place.

Okay, I stand corrected. But does this occur on the official FP servers too, or just on heavily modified servers? I have played for more than 600 hours on official FP servers, and never seen any evidence of this with my own eyes...

Considering there are paid hacks available for experimental (just doing a quick google search) I'd assume there are hackers. I don't think they are en mass because of how developmental the game is and the frequent wipes/lack of players. It's also not as difficult to get geared in this version.

i dont play on modded servers, i've seen it on Official servers (the one i started my thread about) and on community servers like the ones i admin, and on rustified.

The wall walking is an exploint more than a hack as far as i know.! I play dev branch and have not seen a single hack yet but the updates and frequent wipes can get annoying

Exploring the map is fun and base building allows for some creativity but other than that it's pretty boring right now. Animals aren't even moving on most servers and no real threats accept other humans.

using memory injection to remove walls on your client to no-clip through walls is most certainly a hack.

Ok i was thinking about the wall glitch where they would build a wall to force themselves through walls. In any case dev branch has moving animals and no ha ks that i have seen. But low pops and frequent wipes. I love the new building system though

It's terrible, far worse than when you left it. Come back in a couple of years and it may be a game again. I doubt it though. I'm waiting for a clone from a competent studio.

No, the hacking seems to be picking up in frequency.

FPS is pretty darn rough in the last few weeks.

Yep, a few of us have posted videos now. Hackers are here. No clip, speed, aim, super jumping, etc, etc.

It is not at all read yet. Combat has a lot of issues. Things are changing quickly and there are lots of server wipes. It seems like as things change there are new exploits. If you played in the past 2 months you could not really keep a base secure - although it seems better now, except new exploits may appear.

I don't think it is at all worth it, unless you try it and really like the graphics. The game is not complete as a game yet - it is way behind the old version in terms of basic game play.

well to be honest with every one (pls no hate) atm i dont play rust becouse the whole building just to get raided system is fun for some time but it shouldnt be everything rust is about, like it is now. rust has a lot of potential for creativity. PvE, PvP, Singleplayer such things are possible to make with rust, exploring trips are also fun. i hope we will get sometime to the point where everyone has as much fun in Rust as the PvP lovers atm. :) as i saied it some time ago: Rust has the Potential to be a Historic game, why limit it? :D

The netcode is horrendous, pings are super high 90% of the time, you get killed from miles away, when you think your running away from someone you die. Played with a grp of people they ran fine till about the evening when they began to glitch and go crazy they, could not get into doors, basically kept desyncing. They where American playing on a EU server. If I was making a multiplayer game of the magnitude the netcode would be my number one priority. Come back in a year.
