    it's funny, i didn't care about the place, it annoyed me that you didn't say anything in local, so i got stubborn lol.

    hey out of curiosity, was your first lock blocking you from going through the door? it seemed to stay after i broke the door, so there were 2 locks floating there and i couldn't move past either of them.
    i did say something on chat but i think it is broken , cant see other ppl chat too
    and no it doesnt block me , i think there r little bug and when u relog , those floating locks will be gone

    Btw , i took back the lighthouse again XD ,
    Also u failed to destroy my sleeping bag in dat lighthouse , i hided it well XD

    Currently you can only see people chatting within a certain area. Aka, 'local chat'

    Ok so been playing about with the building stuff, but on a none populated server,

    as no one can build near your cupboard you can make un-raidable bases. if you remove stairs or blocks to your upper levels (where you have your cupboards/loot) no one can build to get up to them.

    Or am i missing something ?

    it would be nice to get some resources for breaking the panel too. whilst testing it out, i lost so much wood putting the wrong thing down, the wrong place etc, and losing the full 300-400 wood each panel hurts.

    as you said, bye bye forrest lol.
    yup same shit happen to me.....like really cant have my wood back you greedy bastard:P

    Well it is a WIP so these things can be expected.

    been trying to think of a way of making the system work,
    thought of adding an aid to raiders, raiding ladders these ladders are easy to be destroy by anyone with 2 hits from a rock, these could be place on protected foundations or within the protected area. this would balance it out, raiders could still reach higher levels without the chance of grief.

    but then we have the problem of people adding floors like trapdoors, unless ladders could be used outside the buildings. so using the floor as a trapdoor exploit would be come unnecessary.

    As it stands now, bases are unraidable once people figure out the floating home technique. once weight is put in, raiders will just chop your base down like a tree. Its a complex conundrum

    Sadly i saw nothing wrong with the system that was in place. I know this new construction2 is unfinished, but reverting back to pillars and legacy building seems like a step back.

    what about cupboards only being placeable on foundation blocks?, shitty restraint, but... might work temporarily

    can see where you are coming from but yes something seems shitty about only being able to place cupboards on foundations only, like ladders/grapnel, every option to fix this brings more problems, exploitable mechanics or game play restrictions,

    For the record Im all for Cupboards, i like the idea. and hope tehy are permanent ( i am sure that many disagree with this) however right now they present some problems... namely floating unraidable bases.

    in the future when structures are affected by gravity, and need load bearing support then we wont have this problem (hopefully) but thats a long way down the road and not something i believe facepunch can implement quickly. Grappling hooks would be a faster solution... but that would take quite a bit of work too.

    For the next week we need some easy to implement solution, and i'm trying to think of one that isn't super shitty. So far foundation placement only for cupboards seems to be the easiest one (restrictions are bad i agree), and while some people could build their base on top of a giant rock making it unraidable, there are only so many rocks... and i believe those peoples houses would be camped relentlessly waiting for the owner to come out for supplies.

    Id love to see ideas for solutions from the community, something that facepunch could easily do as a temporary stopgap.
    Keep in mind that things like a grappling hook would require allot more work than non programmers night realise., it needs to be simple and easy, it doesn't have to be perfect but just good enough.

    Cupboards are a temporary stopgap. Let's not start building stopgaps on top of stopgaps on top of stopgaps on top of stopgaps.

    Fun has to take a backseat to development progress somewhere.

    in away i would like to see both building systems in the game. would be alot of work. but the old build system was pretty much done.. just needed some balance
    log cabin bases... and the new bases. would be kinda cool

    so how far is local chat then? because we couldn't have been more than 5-700m apart at all times, and since i couldn't hear him, he probably couldn't hear me either.
