They just automatically added the chain fed mod to the current guns as a placeholder. They will be in airdrops later along with railguns and grenade launchers.

OP what do you mean? The thompson is a sub machine gun that uses pistol ammo. As it should be, the real thompson fires 45 cal pistol ammo

OP For the record in Real Life... "Sub Machine Guns" use pistol ammo, and Assault rifles ( think M16) use ... Rifle ammo. it seems Gary is being realistic in rust making smgs use the proper ammo.

I think he's saying a thompson smg requires an ammo drum which is not depicted in the item model.

The thompson was capable of receiving a drum but also used straight clips. Just watch any WWII movies and you will see them in action
