I want all of you to try these steps:

    1) Shut down Steam
    2) Run Steam as an admin (right-click > Run as Administrator)
    3) Verify Rust's files integrity
    4) Try Rust again

Did not work for me. I'm running everything as administrator. Disabled UAC completely. Just installed the game today for the first time ever. Also tried verifying the game's integrity and rebooted the PC.

There are two different error messages, the same as OP and when I cancel the EAC installation I'm sometimes getting: installer failed to acquire sufficient privileges.

I'm not even getting the error message consistently when installing it over and over. It just keeps coming up with that setup wizard.

HEre's what I've noticed. If I run the EAC installer (as administrator), I can install/uninstall it no problem. It works fine, and I see the service in Services.msi and the registry entries. I can launch this Setup on its own and it sees what EAC versions are installed.

HOWEVER, when EAC's installer is run by the Rust launcher itself, it has no idea that I've already installed it. It doesn't see that it's already installed. The "Uninstall" radio button is disabled.

    Some sort of access issue.

I also noticed that the registry path is looking for EasyAntiCheat.exe in the System32 folder. There's no file by that name in the folder.

    I got the game working

Try launching the game through: \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rust

    Double click RustClient.exe

    EDIT:

My bad. This does not work as it bypasses the EAC and you will just keep getting kicked from the game.

I'm thinking this is something the EAC guys need to sort out.

If there's an EasyAntiCheat.exe in your Rust or Rust/EasyAntiCheat folder, copy it into system32 and see if that makes it happy for the time being.

    Edited:

That bypasses EAC, which is the whole problem. You'll also be kicked from servers within 30 seconds unless they've got EAC security disabled.

The only .exe is the installer itself. That said, my friend that has no problems doesn't have an EasyAntiCheat.exe in his System32 folder. Unless it's hidden.

You're probably playing on a server with security disabled. A number of servers disabled security because of a recent bug where EAC simply wouldn't work.

Try others. You will be kicked rapidly.

same here, when I run the EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe by itself and choose rust it installs without problem, but when I run rust from steam it gives the error,

same happens when I run rust.exe ( 12kb size one ), this one launches eac installer and it fails

the problem seems to be in the rust.exe that calls the easyanticheat installer
