sorry did not mean it in a bad way, i really hope it works, if it does all the better, i was just Optimistic that it would work as he has the server on server list client side and clicking the server name normally just runs the command line i put up, if everything is working correctly.

I should have posted an explanation in my previous post, that rate does look a bit off hand, and for that i apologize.
He's trying to connect to another computer on his own network (as far as I understand).
That's why 127.0.0.1/localhost won't work to connect to.
He needs the LAN IP (what I mentioned above) of the other computer to connect to.

Now i understand where you are coming from as i said pretty new at this stuff forgot that once the server goes via the internet the I.P address changes, so using the internal lan i.p negates the internet.

My apologies, thanks this i knew but did not occur to me to try, in fact it slipped my mind thanks will try and remember that this time.

    Thanks for helping out :)

Trying to help that other guy out.
What I posted works for me ;)
Uhh... What you posted is how to connect to the server lol I know how to do that.

The issue is with either the ports, or with the Server.

You say; The server shows in the list, you can't connect to it, and your server is on another computer on the same network?
    Right?

Which IP are you using to connect?

127.0.0.1:28015 <-- this would be the IP my friends would use to connect easily?

127.0.0.1 is a LAN address this will only work if your friend is connected to the same router/network as you,(if he is in same house)

you will need your internet address which is given to you by your ISP (sometimes random unless you pay for a static IP)

run link above i does give your internet address not your lan address.

Then add the :28015 to the end so you have

    net.connect internet.ip.address.here:28015

    lol

Evidently you don't have a whole lot of experience with hosting servers. OF COURSE I can connect with the local ip! (Doesn't require port forwarding... if it is running, it'll work no matter what.) The issue is that if I or someone else uses my website's A Host (i.e. rust.redirectgaming.com) or if someone else tries to connect with the public IP, it doesn't work.

Hi just a question. I set up the server and it shows in the server list but i can not connect to it, neither with rusty nor in game (but it shows on the list of servers)
Assuming you are on windows? If so, on top of port forwarding in your router, take a look at the Windows firewall also, specifically Advanced settings - Inbound/Outbound rules.

If WF is on you will need to fuck around to open up the same port range in here as you did in your router.

Reason I say it is because that's exactly what I had to do a while back when standing up the Experimental server for testing. When Legacy came out I got part way through doing the same thing on a different port for Legacy as again it didn't work and wouldn't show in the list. Rather than more dicking around just for a bit of testing I just took the experimental down and ran up the legacy using the same ports and it appeared straight away.

*Might not* be the case for you but if it sounds like it could be check it out - everyone's setup is different!

Edit - When I get home I can take a pic of the settings I made (don't remember them off top of my head) if anyone wants/needs

Who's the one here that can't get it to work properly?
    You.
    Mine is working fine.
Maybe you should show a nicer attitude towards people that try to help you.

    Goodluck with your issue.

127.0.0.1 is in-fact a loopback address and it is generally referred to as "localhost".
This address can only be used for a computer to talk to itself.

    dpkg --add-architecture i386
    apt-get update

Remove wine 64 bits and reinstall wine 32bits: apt-get install wine:i386

    For linux:
    xvfb-run --auto-servernum --server-args='-screen 0 640x480x24:32' wine rust_server.exe -batchmode -cfg server.cfg -maxplayers 100 -port 28015

edit: it seems to work very well
Do you use mods on your linux server?
    I'm trying: xvfb-run --auto-servernum --server-args='-screen 0 640x480x24:32' wine rust_server.exe -batchmode - -port "28015" -cf g config.cfg

and it works pretty well, but when I try oxide nothing works

I've tried both Oxide and RustEssentials, they work.
