Post #1I just started playing survival games and one of the first games i picked up was Dayz for Arma. Now dayz for Arma is kinda dying out because the game is kinda old but Dayz standalone. Now i have standalone and the game is great just takes a bit of getting use to.
I heard about Rust, watched a few videos on youtube and decided to try my hand at it. Well what i found was nothing but pipe shotgun / machine gun wielding griefers running around killing naked newbs with rocks for resources. Now i understand its a survival game but when your attacking new people on the server breaking into there houses with C4 and pick axes then gunning them down while they try to avoid or fight you off with a Rock... something is terribly fucking wrong.
I have gotten to the point where i was making the upgrade to my house and of course someone comes bashing in my door so i open to fight them off and get blow away by a shot gun. Respawn to get blow away again. It happens right... now you add in the hacking ( speed running / auto aim hack / the list goes on and this game is just one big Griefing piece of shit right now. The Admin get on and ban 5/6 a night and by the time the Admins leave double that is back on griefing newbs.
How is this a survival game when it sounds like Iraq at night time. Thats all you hear in that game is nothing but automatic guns going off. And the griefing being done on this game is 2nd to none. I really wanted to get into this game but the community playing it right now is horrible. I've meet a couple of good people but they are to few to go through this shit anymore. I know its beta but come on... at what point is this going to be enjoyable for anyone who is new... the higher lvl players have forts touching the sky and between running from them and getting gun down by them from their roofs with auto aim hacks how is a new player suppose to do anything but die repeatedly to these 6yr olds.
Am sorry but i think i will wait for H1Z1 at least there everyone will be starting out at the same lvl so the playing field will be even.... not this Iraq BS you guys are trying to pass of as Rust... Should just called this game C.O.D or battle field.

This game is also destroyed by whiners that can't aim well so they find an excuse like players starting earlier than them ,aimbotting all the time and so on . Garry said he never intended to have so many people buying the game .
+ this "comes bashing in my door so i open to fight them off and get blow away by a shot gun" why would you open and not try to hit him from above or simply wait in the house until he leaves (even if it's 1-2h) or why don't you have some barred window to see your door and shoot at them and if it's a 1x1 and the server started for days then you didn't choose a good spot to build .
and getting a gun takes less than 1h , so stop complaining about being attacked by guys in your house when you only have a rock because if you only have that but a house with a metal door/s then you are the one doing something wrong . There are good(where admins are constantly on and checking) and bad servers ,you just need to find one that has less population or go PVE/RP and also if you want to become better at shooting go on the battlefield servers.

H1Z1 is not going to be the same thing.. well not for months if it ever gets that bad. Rust is just getting worst by the day. Am guessing your one of those guys who has a ton of bullets / guns with your friends in a big tower shoting people from the windows and roof.
But keep making your excuses ... i guess when the starts doing so bad that it doesn't even make sense to keep it alive.. i will see you back here to talk about it.

First off i dont know who you are calling a whiner but for 2 freaking weeks i have been trying to get my house done and for 2 weeks i get killed by guy using machine guns. The game doesn't even feel like a survival game it feels like battlefield or C.O.D.
All you hear is non stop gun fire.. How the hell is that suppose to be a survival game. The are a few people that have been decent enough to leave you alone when they come across you but you gotta love the Douchebags that shot you while you are harvesting a tree with a rock. Or gun you down from a top a tower in the pitch black.
You cant leave shit alone for more than a few minutes in that game.. i always come back to see some asshole trying to break in my house.. and if the axes wont do it... now they are using C4.

I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish with this thread. If you want to play H1Z1 then go play it, but be warned it, like rust, will be in early alpha and will likely have a wave of hacks and people trying to break the game. I'm not trying to keep you play rusting or deter you from playing H1Z1 but on behalf of the forums please keep the pointless whining to yourself.

go into the less populated servers en try that for some time :) ik have played over 150 hours and never seen a hacker or cheater

Lol H1Z1 has more griefability. It's free to play, meaning hackers can just make a new account and start hacking again. Or new spawns can just go around lighting shit on fire

Like most of you said maybe if this cost $40 to get alot of the douchebags on the game wouldnt be there but you can get this on steam for cheap.
Ah well.. i said my piece. Alot of people will try and defend the game like fanboys do but all the people bitching about the griefing of newbs and the over the top gun play all cant be whiners and complainers. Always the people with the upper hand in these games that tend to defend them.

You're complaining about a version of the game that isn't being updated anymore. The experimental branch is going to become the new version of Rust, once it's up to speed with the features currently in the game.
So, nothing will be done. Nobody cares. Yes, hackers suck, and they ruin everything. The devs have more important things to worry about than trying to patch holes in the ship that's soon going to be tied up to a dock and left to rot.

You can't compare rust to cod. Rust actually requires a level of aiming to actually kill someone unlike cod where it's twitch hipfire that wins the day.
Once a group on a server becomes dominate it becomes boring real fast for them. Get their jollies from raiding a noob get's them off. I know I'v done it countless times to get hilarious endings out of them.
This isn't a lego game to build near big rad/ small rad and expect never to be touched by bandits. It's also not a game friendly to people who play alone, and assume that everyone who kills them is a hacker.

I'm talking about you not knowing how to play and instead of training you come here and whine about it . Usually with 1-2-3 buddies we were top dogs on kinda most of the servers we played we didn't need a 10 man group . You gotta build in a safer place if u start late after a wipe , play on less populated servers if you don't like the action and want to play sim city or as I said go PVE . + Go on the battlefield servers and train there . Shooting might seem hard in the beginning in Rust but then when you get the hang of it(and this shouldn't take you long) you realize how easy it actually is .
Don't blame the game for your skill. Go play H1Z1 , figure that one is "hard" too , whine on their forums too and move to the next game .
Be smarter and build more bases not just one , hide them , spread the stuff across the map , don't build easy to raid bases , place fake boxes in each room and so on.

I guess they can try to make a new account we'll see how far they get with SOEs anti-hack system :)
And new spawns don't get a torch from the beginning you have to craft it first if u want one. You also can't set just anything on fire.
If you're going to be negative about another game at least get your facts straight :)

Killing people who have less armor/weapons/resources than you do is not "griefing". It's one of the most successful strategies ever employed in nature.
When you start a sentence with "Now i understand its a survival game but"... and then proceed to complain about the reasons you're failing to survive, you need to reevaluate your approach to the game.
Ask yourself:
Are there variables I can control to make my experience easier?
A: Yes. Different server. Better map location. Build strategy. Farm strategy.
If I took a player with more experience/better understanding of the mechanics/better knowledge of the map and put him in my position, would he/she survive?
A: Yes. It happens every day.
I don't endorse killing newbies, or even non-threatening nakeds... but there's a part of me who sees the evolutionary benefit to being under constant threat and harassment. Those who shouldn't be playing the game either choose not to or find an appropriately low-impact server. Those who are capable of adapting do so... they skulk, they burrow, then learn.
Then there's the cowards who join big gangs and avoid the harsh learning process. But they get sniffed out eventually.

Form a group, farm up, get some guns, and go and kill everyone you see. That is basically all there is to rust atm... no need to complain about people doing the only fun thing in the game. I remember my first hours of rust and feeling like this, all i can say is to keep playing and you will get used to it, all you can do is get revenge. Eventually you can build a tower up to the sky and have a bit of fun, find some irl friends or people you've played other games with who play rust and form a group, if your on a populated server then everyone should be KOS, no mercy.

Yea... he was like the 10th guy within the last 5/6min that came banging. But the rest usually left. He just keep at it so i opened the door to fend him off and 'Bang' dead man walking.
Yea it was a bone head move on my part but it doesn't take long to chop down a wooden door.

I get a strong feeling that you just haven't really taken the time to learn the game so you'd rather bash on it on the forums.
This is the sort of game that's frustrating to new players, you just have to keep trying and get through it.
In the meantime, play something else while the devs finish up the experimental branch... there's nothing wrong with that and it doesn't mean that the game is failing. If I said every game I stopped playing was a failure then there would be like... four good games. Ever.

Yea i did miss that thread but there it is. Thats what i was getting... rolled like a newb with hacks. GUess it is what it is right...
But am glad it been made aware to the dev team that these guys are just ruining the game for others.
I understand you will die and am cool with that but the exploites and hacking and machine gun aim shot hack from the top of towers is getting a bit old.

I hate hackers too, but griefing is just awesome. The feeling of letting someone ragequit a server is just uncomparable to anything else.
Building foundations next to their base while your comrades are laying fire upon them so your enemies cannot expand their base. Or just building shelters or barricades in front of their doors so they can't exit and curse at you. That feeling is just awesome man, that is power son.

Thanks for the advice but i was trying to make a metal door.. but when your being guned down while trying to gather rocks its kinda hard. Then there is the whole thing of not being able to be away from your house no matter where you put it. I have hid my house up in the hills only to find some idiot choping down the door when i returned. Or even worst my door gone along with my stuff.
I know it happens but when people are using C4 to blow your stuff up... lol
Again... I have been trying to advance in the game... make a furnace / work bench etc... the servers i use to be on were litered with towers all over the place. Only where to hide would have to be up in the mountains some where but if you ran into someone 95% of the time they were going to gun you down just to steal your resources. And whats even worst about that it was always some player with a high powered gun, not a newb who needed the resources.
Even had one guy stop me... i ran but he chased me and asked if i could hear him.. i said yea i can hear you what do you want.. i dont have anything... he said jump up and down if you can hear me... so i did.. then he shot me and took my stuff.
Thats whats in the game right now. But again.. it is what it is.

He has been stalking me and griefing me for hours. He has stolen every single item I have and killed multiple times. He griefed me twice by destroying all 6 of my sleeping bags, then 5 when I came back after a long walk back.
I cannot take this anymore, please ban him.
Thats what these guys do to people who want to enjoy the game. So sad. But it is what it is right...

Play on a different server with a lower population until you get a hang of it. Best advice I can give, people are ruthless in this game, it's sick but that's how it is. Best of luck to you.

Yea you'll definitely have better luck on a smaller server.
It's not as action-packed all of the time but you can actually gather and build without getting murdered every 5 minutes.
Plus there tend to be way less hackers and better server stability, and it's easier to get to know the people playing on the server. Really, imo, smaller servers are the way to go.

You know all DayZ is, is shot on sight never seen one friendly person in DayZ and I played it for awhile. Theres a lot of friendly people on Rust that I meet. Now your mistake why go on a server with 1 admin and it hasn't been wiped in awhile????
Go on a server with at least 3 admins, just got wiped like 3 days ago and people won't have C4, and crazy shit like that. Go on a small server.
So I don't see how you can complain how people in this game kill you for resources when DayZ they kill you for some cloths DayZ is shoot on sight forever.
This game I seen a lot of friendly people even made clans with a lot of them.

This is a great point. I have never met a non-KOS person in DayZ, on any server. While it does take some bouncing around, eventually you'll find some Rust servers you'll like.

I agree to a certain point. But like a few others have said... you join a gang / group you dont get to learn how to play the game. You just get stuff free and add to the problem. I understand in my case it may be the only option on that server, but some have made good points. I think i will go to another server and try my luck there.

And sure enough... i was left alone for about 2hr last night and guess what. I have a mini fort .. just 1 floor as to not draw attention from raids but 2 rooms with a metal door / work bench / repair bench.
Working on gathering materials to make a furnace. There was one only with a camp fire a few feet from where i build my house so i used that to smelt my ore. But this server is definately better that the others in regards to people just leaving you alone. I guess once word gets out more will come but at least for now i have my house with my sleeping bag.

Biggest advice I can give you.. don't use campfires/furnaces at night. Do that stuff in the day time so no one see's your hut/house a mile away...

your clearly doing a lot of things wrong, if you had a 1x1 to me that screams raid as your getting ready to expand. Go on a small server, learn how to play the game properly and then go on a big server. The rust map is quite small for 100 + people so there will all ways be gunfire as if someone sees a guy in kevlar they want to kill him for the kevlar, while i agree with you on that the community is not great you probably have not played the game enough to know

I have no affiliation with Facepunch Studios or Valve, but I apologize that so called "hackers" are given another chance to make multiple accounts and repurchase the game if they get caught "hacking". As well as VAC/Cheatpunch catching them on a delay. We all know it would be so much better if somehow a fatal high voltage shock was transmitted to a player if they did anything resembling "hacking"(including but not limited to: getting headshots, attacking someone that is unarmed, clicking "play game", etc). As well as deploying a hit squad to terminate a user when their account is VAC banned.
