Post #1I've noticed a lot of people interested in implementing boats into this game. As much as I think this is a really cool idea, I got to thinking, this would only be really cool if facepunch added some islands. I took it a step farther though and thought about how cool it would be if you could craft a sort of floating foundation if you will. Then you could deploy it in the water from your inventory (while in a boat) and build on top of it. It adds a different kind of mechanic and it would no doubt make it harder to raid people (not saying thats a good thing just stating the obvious). The floating foundation could have stilts that reach the bottom of the water but will no doubt have a limit as to how deep they can go. Inb4 nazi premium board members call me an idiot for being creative.

Yes, it would be cool. Islands and boats are something that will get implemented, according to Garry (I think he said it on his AMA on reddit or so).

Personally I'd like a boat house....low movement, very restricted build size, but something I could move around the map when I want. Use some cloth to give it a sail, etc...

Along with fishing, swimming, sharks, seamonsters, ships, cannons, etc. Let the age of high seas piracy begin! avast ye and prepare to be boarded!

I definitely find some of these to be a little over the top but you get the idea. How awesome would it be to build your own ships or floating houses and go straight up water world with the whole experience. I think it would add an incredible amount of depth and originality. I'd love to wake up on my floating house or ship and sail to land to deal with the harsh realities that wait on the main land. Because lets not forget, you still need to go to land to get resources. You can even have pirate clans. I think just starting with building things on water would help it take off. I wouldn't even have a problem with keeping water as lethal.

I was being a liitle sarcastic as this is not a sailing game and I dont expect we will ever have ships with cannons... I guess the point of my sarcasm was that its going to take a long time to implement even basic changes to what we already have, and as cool as boats, islands, and othe water-based ideas are, its going to be ages before even basic water mechanics are implemented. That's not intended to detract from your idea which is cool and would be fun.... eventually.

Water world, were there is only "the island" as Dry land.

Building a house boat would be amazing, I think it would be pretty well balanced with how it would be harder to gather materials but at the same time it would make it harder for raiding groups to find you and raid your base.

I'm curious, what did that one person above do to get a ban? All they did was post a pic out of Waterworld. Is there some sort of obscure forum rule I don't know about?
Or does this forum's moderators just ban whoever they damn well please for whatever reason they come up with? Because it sure seems like that.

You have to check their posts for the one with (User was banned for this post ("Reason." - Moderator)) in red text at the end to see why they were banned.

Ah. I see it on another thread. I thought the giant red BAN where the avatar goes was the indicator of being banned.

It is, your avatar just gets changed to that when you get banned, so all the posts you made before you got banned get changed to that for the duration. But the red text that says "User Banned for something or other" only shows up on the post that they were actually banned for.
You can click the little calendar button underneath people's avatars to see their ban history and such.

Yeah, with the building in water & boats idea, fishing would be cool, considering that you don't get chicken breast from fish though :D
