This server has been up a few months now, peaking around 90 players online with 20-30 being fairly normal. We don't expect this game to run too long, maybe 2 weeks or so until an update requires another wipe. A few of us have been server hopping over the last few days based on positive feedback on this forum, trying to learn what makes a successful server. I've concluded that as important as active and competent admins/mods is a good player base.
The servers that seem to go the farthest are those that take measures to keep good fair minded players in, and make it less fun for those who get their enjoyment from ruining that of others. This doesn't mean banning players that KOS, etc. because this is a PVP game, but with the right people on the game KOS doesn't have to be the rule. To this end we have implemented the following:
-Group functions mod. You can share doors, group chat, disable friendly fire, etc.
-Arrow Recovery! You get some of your arrows back when you kill something with them. I thought this was very clever.
-Airdrops are currently at 5+ players, but get changed depending on how things play out. Community input is highly valued.
-Approximate location of airdrops and distance and direction from your position are announced by the server. Should get more people going for them.
-Remove tool. Use /remove to activate and deactivate.
-Location tool. Use /location to get your coordinates for use on rustnuts.com or rustmap.net and find your buddies before you starve.
-Durability is at about 10%. Still a factor but less of an annoyance.
-The Admins (which I am not among) are very interested in the game, and the community aspect. They will help you.
-General policy of assisting/protecting new players. No starter kit, but ask in chat. Again, noone will get banned for KOSing a naked new spawn, but it might make you very unpopular.
-No Griefing. This includes base stealing by putting your own doors on someone elses building to block them in or out. There is an automessage detailing this.
-No Cheating. You know when you're cheating. Noone likes a cheater.
-C4 is craftable, but explosives are not. Loot tables may be adjusted to make them more common in drops and such. Input from someone familiar would be great.
Like I said above, this won't be a very long run in all likelihood but hopefully one that we can use to get valuable feedback and test things for the next big game after update. Give us a try if you're looking for a fresh game and leave some feedback on this thread. It all helps make it more fun.

Bumping because I had the IP wrong, also the server title is now The Rusty Tavern because of a naming conflict with an existing server. Oh and arrow recovery has been added!
