hello all u wonderful developers, so i was thinkin, what if u put bikes in the game? not motorcycles but chain bikes. it would be faster that running but with limitations of course. and maybe it took so much metal to make certain part (handle, seat, wheels) and those can be found in crates. and not 2 person bikes, we dont want any drive by shootings XD

Making them very hard to make would be nice.
    For example
wheel - 50 low quality metal
wheel - 50 low quality metal
frame - 150 low quality metal
    seat - 100 leather - 100 animal fat - 10cloth
handlebar - 75 low quality metal
chain - 25 low quality metal

    etc
1 person can ride the bike
    the bike has 100 health
so 4 hits from m4 will make it break and you will have to replace broken parts or have hp for each part like houses.
you can not shoot while on bike.

or even had horses in game would be a nice feature or if they do go ahead and add dinosaurs be able to ride them :D

Horses for the win, looks much more legit. As IRL you won't be able to handmake a sprocket or chain would you? I think we should go with horses. But a bike is not a bad idea!

What kind of seat are you making? A recliner?

Bikes would be the most logical at the moment since horses you'd have to catch somehow, unless you plan to build them too.

Pretty much all the crafting in this game features minimal realism. You can't just chuck ore into a fire inside some stones then get metal which you can mold with your hands into axes and other tools.

I'd much rather see horses then bikes, personally.
Seeing somebody zip by on a bicycle would just ruin the game and the immersion for me.

Do not get me wrong i'm not against that idea but item costs seems pretty much for a bike.

For example, per wheel costs 50 Low Quality Metal

I can actually make 25 Metal Pillar or
    12 Metal Wall or
    6 Metal Foundation with that.

That bike gonna cost people more than a simple metal building. With lowered costs it's always a better idea getting a bike instead of a horse.

Horse will be more costy though, gonna need share our precious cooked chickens with em !

If you own a horse they should be able to automatically graze. It would make no sense for them to not gain hunger while you are offline, but if they got hungry while you were offline they would be an absolute nightmare to maintain.

People already cry about losing things inside their base when offline. Now you want to have your horse graze while you're offline just so you can log in, see your horse gone, then come to the forum to get all upset that someone stole your horse. Gonna cry for stables and electric fences operated by batteries made from mixing metal frags, sulfer, and water?

While I agree a faster mode of transportation could/should be incorporated, I don't think riding animals/dinosaurs/each other will be the answer. I don't even think bikes would be that great with the current concept. Imagine coming up to a road way and see a pack of nakeds getting their Lance Armstrong on.

If it were a bike, no need to make the parts to pedal. Figure a bike without the pedals and you basically are just running while sitting down. I am sure I wasn't the only kid to do it when I was younger to feel I could out kick my pedaling any day.

Why not ride on pigs? Pulling on their tails to make them faster but also louder.

That logic is great - if the players will QQ about losing it, we definitely shouldn't add it.
Y'know.. like blowing into peoples houses and destroying hours of work wasn't a controversial addition or anything either.

If not animals or bicycles, what other form of transportation do you want?
Cars? No. That idea is even worse then bicycles.

    This guy:

Bikes would be pretty nifty, though. You don't really need to make them out of metal, either. Some early bicycles were wooden. and had wooden wheels. You could make old-school big-wheels, which probably wouldn't work so great in the fields, or rope-drive bikes in place of chain-link drives. You could have all the metal parts, too, if you really wanted to spend valuable metal on a bike. Crafting the chain would be tough, though. You'd almost have to find one, instead.

If they add faster forms of travel they'll need to expand the usable map space, IMO.

That being said, a bike would be cool, as would horses. I can't decide which one would fit Rusts' (albeit small amount of) lore/"brand."

I think horses might be better, since they'd be able to cover more types of terrain more easily. I don't care how defined my player model's 6-pack is, riding long distance on a bike over uneven fields and hills is hard as eff, and I don't wanna be limited to the roads.

On a more serious note, faster than running travel is just going to be a nightmare to render on the X-Z. Not to mention taking into account collisions and (when you guys will ask for it) destructable models to make those collisions worthwhile and/or fun.

I'd like to see it, perhaps in half a year or so when the engine, gameplay and map size would allow for it.

For now though, lets look at some things that are actually possible.
