I know I'm not alone in my desire for a way to melt down extra guns or place traps in my home for protection and then I realized why not combine them?

If you throw a gun into a furnace or some equivalent thing it will melt down. However, if you forget to take out the bullets before melting it down.... there's the trap.

Bullets placed in a fire or furnace will after so long start to spray out in a random direction like cooking shrapnel popcorn. They will deal a sharp fraction of the damage but is a good way to create noise for distractions or intimidation. Also it will be a great newbie learning experience when they try to melt down their first loaded gun.

I know we're a long way off from these kinds of things and its not the focus right now. But I wanted to get the idea down before I forget it.

How will you get the furnace to light at the right time?

This would be something to set up as you're being raided as just kind of an option. You could throw some bullets in the fireplace and move upstairs if they're trying to brute force their way in. It wouldn't be terribly effective in doing much more than slowing people down a bit. I see it more as something to create noise as a distraction and surprise people who try to melt down a loaded gun.

Depending on how traps go later there may be a trip wire to make it more effective.

I always use furnaces a cheap form of storage at the start of the game, but still find it funny that you can store gunpowder and live ammunition inside with no explosions occurring. I suppose they should either config the furnace to accept only certain items, like the campfire, or (hopefully) do what you suggested. It would be amazing!

It should also red damage all items someone has on them. That way if they do it offline they and just run back at least all their stuff is ruined until repaired.

Maybe not the stuff they have on them, but their armor.

I think they could make a trip wire that would spark some flint towards the furnace. the trap could only be fueled by low grade fuel maybe?

You could potentially use the bullets in the furnance as a decoy. So when someone is raiding you, you could throw them in there and they would run scared shit-less! #WIN
