I have been fighting with this issue for weeks and I just can't seem to figure out what it is. I have searched the net until my fingers are raw trying to find this specific issue. First off here is my machine specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 3.4Gh
MSI 760 GTX 2gb
8 Gigs RAM
Ubuntu 13.10 64bit ( Have used 12.04 with same result )
120 Gig SSD
Logitech h800 USB headset



I am having an intermittent issue that seems to be when someone is running after or towards me or a very large building comes into rendering distance my game completely freezes. I can't move, I don't see players move, I don't hear any sound etc. This will set this way for quite awhile, minute+ but it's a random amount of time. I can immediately bring it back by alt-tabbing then going back in the game. At the point of doing that the game comes back and I can move with the mouse, however my keyboard is unresponsive until I click one of the mouse buttons. Sadly I can't reproduce the reason as to why this happens, I only have a basic idea of why it is. I can play for 6 hours without seeing it or like last night played for about 4 hours without it happening, then it started happening and I could reproduce it every time by running into rendering distance of a very large building right outside of my base. I even rebooted and it was still happening. This happens on all settings from Fastest to Beautiful, any resolution I have tried. I have grass.on turned off but it doesn't make a difference with this issue anyway. I have tried all the fps tweaks with no luck which at any rate I don't see this as any issue to do with FPS. Here is a quick list of things I have tried in no order:

- Reinstalled 12.04 from scratch to see if it was an issue with the OS
- Installed 13.10
- Used commercial drivers from ubuntu's repo's ( 331.38 ) and edgers ( 331.49 )
- Changed settings all between Fastest and Beautiful
- Changed resolutions
- Tried changing the Nvidia mode to performance from adaptive
- Other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head


I watched the temp of the GPU when I played last night and it never got to 50C. When I look at the GPU usage it reports under 50% usage with the Nvidia settings tool. I'm totally at a loss here so hopefully one of you guys may have some insight. I have quite a few friends that play with Ubuntu like I do with lesser cards than mine and are not having this issue at all. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
