I understant you want to place foundations around your base to help protect it from people building along side and either blowing through walls on upper levels or jumping on top (by extending pillers beyond the top floor). What I don't understand is, can you just put a piller in the middle of the foundation or do you need to put them on all 4 corners and the middle?
Thx

Well, with the pillar and barricade exploit, it would be best practice to put a pillar on every possible space. Any place they can put their own pillar on your foundation, you are vulnerable to that method.

The best method for attack is to place pillars in the middle or on the between two previously placed pillars. You don't want to leave open areas allowing other players to place walls and stairs towards your base. But even then, with place multiple foundations around your base won't always prevent raids. The best way is to pad your base, make it hard for players to get into your base by having to blow through multiple walls and doors to get through to your loot.
