    This is a shooter, any voxel based terrain system will result in peoples bodies boobing up and down when going up/down the smallest of inclines. While this doesn't matter in a game like cubeworld where you have 180 degree swing arcs and use swords, this will have a huge impact on gunplay in Rust. Peoples heads won't go down smoothly when running down hills, they will jitter. Not only will this look terrible when you are focused in and aiming, but it will be annoying to shoot. By the way I am referring to small voxels here like Cubeworld, rather then giant ones like Minecraft. Making the game's terrain voxel based will be a huge downhill turn for the project.

    I know a lot of people want caves, but there are far better ways of going about it then going for voxel based terrain. The best way to make caves in Unity is using this tool https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/8277 (or simply making your own coding which does the same thing) and then making separate ground meshes for the inside of the cave. With 5 bucks (how much the tool costs) and some cave assets we can have realistic looking caves rather then having to deal with voxel based terrain.

    Rust is not "a shooter," in fact it is nothing this early in development, it is whatever the developers decide it will be. Let them experiment. And personally, i think voxels could potentially be very cool. This game is focused on shooting, and building. Modifying the terrain adds a new dimension to both. From creating bunkers to hide from gunfire and to shoot from to making basements to your humble home, voxels could make it happen.

    Rust has guns and you shoot people. I wasn't referring to genre in this case, I was referring to the combat, which you would know if you read the very next sentence rather then immediately rubbing your dick and posting about how much better you are then other posters. Yes, we know your opinion is right any anybody who disagrees with you must have down syndrome, write it somewhere else please.

    Just because a game uses voxels does not mean it will end up looking like Minecraft or Cubeworld. Starforge is a decent example of this with terrain manipulation, but even games like Crysis and EQN are voxel based in their terrain generation.

    I don't mind the idea of voxels if they're done right -- but it will be a difficult balance, and likely won't be in their favor. I always want to see what FP can do, though, and maybe they'll surprise me.

    Yes, that is exactly what I was getting at, I am better than you just because I have an opinion that is different. Quit being a baby. As I mentioned earlier, rust is nothing currently, ANYTHING can change, it could be a gta clone tomorrow if they wanted it to be. Also, when I rub my dick is my own damn business unless I am getting you to do it for me. Which I won't.

    I will give you a dollar if you can pinpoint exactly where in his post you can find the following:
    1. Where he indicated he thinks he's better than other posters
    2. Where he indicated anyone that disagrees with him must have down syndrome

    I think you're being overly defense for no reason.

    To Garry and all other devs, voxels are a great idea and would also making the everything so much easier, to everyone else imagine the possibilities of mining for ores, cutting down trees,
    making awesome fortifications, being able to build bigger builds than the game currently handles due to foundation placement limitations, terra forming would be amazing for a game like rust.

    This post sums up why we shouldn't have voxels in my opinion, I just don't want to live in a world made of blocks, I have had so few complaints with the devs vision for this game and have loved the development so far, I must have done around 300 hours before steam release and cant be far off that since the official release but for me voxels would be the day I put this game down. Even the cube smoothing effect in 7 days to die didn't make the voxels work for me, I guess i have just had my minecraft phase a while back and am done with it.
