I am getting this message on some servers, including the one I pay hosting on, but not on others. I have never cheated, the only things I have ever downloaded for Rust are .lua scripts for my server. I don't have any corresponding messages on Steam advising me that I was banned. Could this be update related?

VAC bans aren't controlled by Facepunch, if you're VAC banned chances are you cheated several months ago and there's been a recent ban wave instantiating your ban. VAC bans aren't wrong, if you read on how they work you'll understand why.

All you can do is get a new copy of the game.

There was an -insecure launch option added to Rust a few updates ago. This means that there will be a tiny handful of servers you can still play on. The majority of servers are covered by VAC and you cheated on one. Even if you convinced yourself what you did wasn't cheating, you still altered the game files or manipulated the game's running memory, which is hacking and is always a cheat.

I am so going to host a server for cheaters only I would pay to watch cheaters duke it out with each other all hacking.
