Alright so long story short.

I bought Rust 3 or so hours ago.
I played with it for a bit on a few servers, went on one and started learning the game, bashing trees with rocks and looking for boars.
After making a hut etc I was walking around looking for wood piles and my PC crashed. This happens a lot when I play games so I didn't think anything of it, just pressed the reset button on my PC, logged back on to steam and it was redownloading Rust. I thought that was weird but just waited and then came back on. I couldn't access any servers and it didn't give me any error message.

I checked around online and it said to press f1 to find out additional info. I did so and it said "facepunch_VAC_banned" when i tried to connect to a server.

I've raised the issue with steam, but they'll probably take a while to get back to me, so I'm asking if this is a known bug that happens when a PC crashes or something? Anything I can report to steam to help this get removed, as I was enjoying learning the game and this has really pissed me off, but I understand it's probably just a bug cos it's in alpha.

sorry but you hacked or tried modifying the .exe process.

What activates VAC:
Injecting items into the .exe
modifying hex code via hex editor (Cheat Engine or similar program)
forcing .dll's to be ran inside of game directory

What doesn't:
Anything that doesn't include the former. If you were VAC banned it's because you tried hacking or modifying the game using code for the sole purpose of hacking. gg buy another copy on another account

There were no cheat programs running. Nothing was "injected". I had literally just bought the game.

This has to be a bug, there is no other explanation.

However it is important to note that after my PC had crashed, I had updated the game (in OP I thought Steam was reinstalling it, I now realise it was an update) and only after updating was i VAC banned.

With all due respect, simply because you view that as a reason to cheat doesn't mean others will.

I would not buy a survival game to cheat in, where is the challenge in that? If you look at my history I also possess banished, if I cheated in that, what would be the point of the game.

The point of survival games is trial and error. I had already died many times before even learning I had to hit the trees with a rock. People have different perspectives and I don't believe cheating in a survival game leaves you with much of a...game :).

If that is the case, why was i VAC banned shortly after update?

Seeing how he was just banned 1 day ago and only has 3 hours on the account, I think it might be a burner account for cheats, not gonna' say it is, just that 3 hours and already banned for injecting into the game kinda smells fishy.

Aside from the fact that you apparently have VAC bans against you, people do not take very kindly to people who come here claiming that they were wrongfully VAC banned. People frequently come here claiming to have been VAC banned for all manner of bizarre circumstances when in fact they were cheating in some way. Coming here and claiming false positive/wrongful ban/banking that people have no clue how VAC works was what various "cheat" creators told people to do on the off chance their "undetectable" cheats triggered VAC.

Long story short: Above and beyond the fact that Facepunch has no authority over VAC, many people have had similar claims to you and were lying. That is why people are not sympathetic towards you.

The update is fresh off the line.

I have cheatengine and have used it for years

unless you attach them to online games that have vac and are connected to a vac ban, you're fine. Trainers will NOT ban you.

Okay well, I was simply hoping for some info I could use in my appeal to Steam, as I bought the game less than 5 hours ago and knew little about it (I only bought it because it looked good and the first steam player review made me laugh.) so I had hoped I would find something here.

Well I am sorry if that turns out to be the case I do, but place yourself in my shoes for a moment. You bought a game, your playing it, enjoying it. Your PC crashes and your VAC banned. Wouldn't you want to try and gather evidence for your case?

Oh I see, well this account has 63 games (So several hundred pounds) and my profile picture is me and my girlfriend. I am not that rich to be able to afford to buy multiple games nor deluded enough to think people won't know it's me if I have myself and gf in my profile pic. This is my main account, I have one other from 2009/10 with only "Empire total war" on it.

VAC bans in waves, it had picked up a cheat attached to the game modifying the DLL's and marked the account for a later ban. It can take a small amount of time before actually banning.

VAC doesn't ban you over a bad update or ingame bug and ehh way more people would have been effected and ehhh

There were false positives a long time ago but now VAC is much, much more accurate.

According to this site, a total of 0.006% Steam users suffered VAC bans that have been reversed, and the last false positive I could think of involved several players who were mistakenly VAC banned from Modern Warfare 2, who in turn all earned a copy of Left 4 Dead 2.

VAC is better than it used to be, but it's not infallible.
