If you want to see what Unity is truly capable of, and are a fan of survival sandboxes, you need to checkout The Forest:

That's single player. But yes, much more visually impressive, unlike Rust or the Survival Games they aren't just using stock Unity assets and visual settings.

Rust servers can add plugins to include all these features. The whole idea of logging on a server and fighting to the death can be added to Rust already. No need to buy another game just for some additional gameplay options.

Besides, Rust is still in Alpha. There is much more work to be done and I'm guessing it will be awesome. The trailer for the Survival Games kickstarter was mostly CGI. I doubt the game will fully resemble what is represented in the trailer.
They will be in early alpha to, so they will adjust stuff.. We'll just need to see in the long run how it goes. I don't see Rust being developed quickly, which is alright but i'd give that game a try to.. Even just to see the difference.

I will be keeping an eye on it see how it develops first, too much investment in a game can slow development, so gonna sit back for a few months for this one.

If you read the information about the game on the kickstarter you will see that this game isn't trying to be a rust clone, but rather a poorly named hunger games clone.

    From the kickstarter page:

"Rust was inspired by Minecraft (among other games), and has impressively created a world where players can roam the land, form alliances, and build structures using resources. DayZ centers on a zombie-infested island, and players must scavenge and loot buildings much like the HBO series "The Walking Dead" while keeping a leery eye open for players, as they can be hostile or friendly.

Both games have open-world, sandbox environments that focus on player interactions and the ability for prolonged (even endless) gameplay if a player is fortunate enough. Players do not want an endgame when playing those games; and there isn’t one for either game, as of this writing.

The Survival Games is completely different. In contrast, it combines the classic simplicity of multiplayer deathmatch gameplay with the complexity of survival elements like crafting, hostile wildlife, and climbing.

Our game does not feature an open-world environment where players are going to plan on surviving for long periods of time. Rather, matches take place on individual maps, set in various locales of remote regions in the wilderness."

From what I gather players don't even build their own structures in this game, It's just hungry games deathmatch with catnip and her friends.

Looking at their goals, apparently the difference between playing as a male or female... is ten thousand dollars.

This game doesn't mention what games this "programmer with over 18 years of experience in the game industry on several indie game titles." has worked on. They also want 20 bucks for their "early bird" and their 20k will only get them to pre-alpha status. I'm skeptical at best, even if I wanted a survival oriented deathmatch arena style of game I'm not sure I'd be contributing to this project.

here it says it is open world, might have to get this on release

    http://survivetheforest.com/about/
Yes it does, but The Forest isn't The Survival Games, which is what the Op was discussing. I will admit though that The Forest does have my interest, so I'll keep an eye on that one as well.

They use the Unity engine and want fully destructable terrain? We want fully destructable terrain, too, and finally nobody can reply with "not possible with the engine" anymore!

All in all this should put Facepunch studios under pressure, which might be a good thing.

I am not certain the reasoning is that it's not possible in the engine, it's probably more that it's not possible in the engine, with 200 people digging holes in a map for days or weeks. Planet Explorers apparently supports 32 players on a server, they're running Unity with an OpenCL terrain deformation algorithm and is a survival game, but when you support 100 or 200 people on a single server at once the demand of server resources is bad enough without sending the client new meshes, it takes long enough to transfer the data to build constructs made of known meshes to construct the buildings we've put together with the game as it is, could you imagine if the game had to double check that there wasn't a hole dug 1000 feet from where every player was at any given moment?

i wouldn't say this game is a rust clon, hunger games styled gameplay is really popular at the moment.
This game is made for kosing and killing eachother to survive, while in rust the devs want to improve the building and being to create a nice village, atm ppl just choose to kill eachother because where is nothing else to do.

Even if they'd make 1000 building options KoS will always exist.. Why bother to farm that wood pille of you can just shoot someone for it instead... More fun for the KoS' er and most likely a lot of stuf.

Or they just do it for fun..

Thanks for explaining, but what about "simple" destructible terrain, like:
"hack" the terrain into squares, then give each square one bit. When a square gets destroyed set the bit from 0 to 1. At login tell the player which square has the bit setted to 1, whenever a square gets damaged send the event to the clients. This would be one bit per, well, how large the square will be instead of sending meshes. Could something like that work?

This one looks AMAZING when u watch trailers. Would love to play it.

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...survival-games
That "Hunger Games" copy... If its open world I would play it because it have more things than rust...

Rust - I like this game but it gets borrrrrrrring very fast... And dev's not adding anything... I think its even stupid to do things like change "small box" in to better looking one when theres more things to do... Personaly I don't care about the graphics of the game if game is good and fun to play. To make game look amazing but have nothing in it its stupid in other hand.

I better prefer quantity not quality on ALPHA games. U can tweak quality latter. But since I both it like 2 months ago was changed only rocks and wood animation, changed box animation and added repair bench with that "life" for items... That's it? Its all u can do FP? I know it is hard to make a game... But whats the point of tweaking graphics when game is full of bugs and not that much content.

As always ... Its only my Opinion... :) After 2 weeks with no update I hope to see a HUGE update... If it will not happen I think me and other thousands of players will get very disappointed.

    PEACE

Looks better in my opinion already than Rust so it can't really be a Clone if its already having a BUNCH more features than Rust manage to push out.

I think the game looks awesome. Something like that is what rust should be. Not like it is today. Empty and boring. The only thing rusy has going for it is the pvp.

Even the rocks around looks the same.

    what do you think?
This is an Arena FPS game modeled very closely off The Hunger Games. I wouldn't call it a "Rust clone."

Agreed, i hope rust will get there in time, one can dream right, right now it does not seem possible but maybe with modding ?

OT: The screens look much better than rust except for those ugly stolen rocks than rust also use.
