Obviously this would be something waaaaaay down the line, but does anyone else think that it might be kinda neat to have some expansion on fire? E.g., wildfires, either natural or player-started, like in Farcry 2/3? There'd definitely need to be some restrictions to keep player balance, but I think it might be a cool variable in combat/environment in the future, with the possibility of setting fire to crops (for farming that's in development) or wooden houses (concrete/stone houses could conteract this, also in development) or large field/forest fires to close people off from stuff, added PVE danger, etc. (plus the idea of the molotov cocktail is very handmade, which kinda fits in with Rust's style) I think it has the potential to be really terrible, but I also think with some careful balancing, it could be a cool gameplay mechanic.

    Thoughts?

Best fire mechanic I've heard of yet:

Light arrows on fire, act as a flair does. for lighting purposes..

Would be f'n awesome if you where getting raided in the night, and needed light.

If this game is supposed to be a survival simulator, than burning down wooden structures would definitely be a game changer.

My main concern would be if wooden houses burned too easily.

It should be kept in mind that the wood in-game can be equated to rough-cut, non-treated, non-dried lumber. I don't know if anyone here has tried lighting stuff like that in real life, but let me tell you it's a serious pain outside of a woodstove unless you have a serious ignition source. A fire started on a wall by a flaming arrow would likely burn itself out in a few minutes unless you were able to feed it with alcohol or other highly flammable substances, or light enough other sections on fire.

An ability to set fire to wooden houses with a torch would be cool.

I agree with fire stuff. But, fuel then need to be hard to find, and be valuable in game, so no one will be running around and burning stuff.

I'd like to be able to set my home on fire while I'm getting raided. I'd love to see how the trapped raiders would find their way out hahaha.
