Biggest mistake was leaving my doors open. . . .lesson learned for sure.
My biggest mistake was during my 2nd day of playing the game, I had built myself a fairly basic 2x2 building on the first day, when I woke up the 2nd day I had been raided by them blowing up the wall too where I was holding all my stuff. So realising my mistake but not wanting to set up a new base I decided I would extend the building up instead, I spent all day gathering resources and building out and up but I wanted to put a stairway on the outside next to where my storage room was for my new entrance. I finished up the rest of the building but here's the first mistake, I put the wall up to close off my old entrance... Then went upstairs and jumped down only to find out I couldn't place a foundation where I wanted it, so I had built my base so I couldn't get into it... While wandering around trying to figure out what to do foundation in hand I was shot by the group who had raided me the night before...
I spent the next 20 minutes or so wandering around on my roof, talking in chat about how much of an idiot i am, before the group returned and placed my foundation and stairs near where I needed, just close enough so you could running jump onto my roof. Was very nice of them but needless to say I moved to a new base
many people do that and want to look so cool and funny
Trusted the wrong people.
going in to loot the backpack too quickly. every-fookin-time.
and then: staying to long trying to take everything possible (in live raids also).
relying on others![]()
I did that on my first kill. Was so proud of myself, I stood over my kill like I'd just downed my first buck. He attacked first, so it made it even more of a win.
It was my second day on Rust, so I wasn't quite keen to how sleeping bags work. He was back within 15 seconds and axed me in the back.
I was still rooting around in his backpack for goodies. lol Nowadays, I take the best 2-3 items and get the fook out.
A week into playing the game, I had a nice four story place with a window on the top floor (this was long before metal bars). Some naked guy was running past and so I hopped up on my window sill with full Kevlar and an m4 (you may see where this is going) and started opening fire on this guy. I wasn't a very good shot at this point in time and he evaded and hid from most of my shots. I tried to lean over and aim down at him as he was hugging the wall on the ground floor and-- I fell! Ahhhhhh! Broken legs, bleeding, less than half health.... He hits me and kills me with one shot from his rock. I respawn inside, run out to try to get my stff back an he blasts me with my m4. I respawn somewhere else....
I raged.
Ok story time then.
So I was farming on this highly populated server for 5 hours straight, trying to avoid the raiding groups kos'ing everyone, got quite sweaty sometimes. It was very intenese, often I only barely avoided contact. So I made my small base, shaped like an X with 5 foundations and 2 floors. started getting stuff rolling. Already managed to research full kevlar and m4 I got from some dumbass.
My mates join and start helping me out.. one of them not the smartest one, he keeps respawning and running up to this group of people losing what few pistols I have. I just died (more below), got pissed so I took one of the 2 kevlar sets I could only create at that point and the only m4 I had. I run out, try to help my mate, he says its 2 guys.. suddenly 2 turn into 4 and they start chasing us. I disengage and run backwards to my small cabin... it was next to rocks, I fell down, broke my leg and literally 3-4 seconds later a different group (who where friends with the dumbass whose m4 I took) pops up from the rocks above and starts firing at me, the sitting duck I was.
Edit: The reason I was enraged and put kevlar on: I was on a farming run and got my first bolt action in 2 hours of rad towns... euphoricly I run home, suddenly a wolf chases me from the side, next second a guy in full leather with guns pops up right in front of me - then like matrix bullet time we stare at each other for what seemed like an eternity - he saw me and the wolf - and we both started firing simultaneously. I almost got him but had to keep running because of that fucking wolf - then he suddenly pops a barricade in front of him while I am coverless with a wolf on my ass. Needless to say I died and lost a lot of farm and the only bolt.
tl;dr after endless farm I die like a sitting duck 2 times and lose a lot of my stuff.
I was so fucking enraged that I left the server and quit playing for a few days![]()
Me and 3 other friend had just gotten the game this was our second server and averaged only 15 or so players. My one friend became the designated builder problem was none of us had great knowledge of how people raid your shit. He had a great idea to make a huge wall around our base, giving us access to resources while being safe with walls...great idea I guess on paper. Well we didn't realize how easy it is to break down gates nor did we realize that we made our base with barless windows too close to the walls making it easy for them to build off the wall and go right through the window....yeah never made that mistake again.
Other than that I tend to trust people way to much and it bites me in the ass.
My biggest mistake? Underestimating Nakeys.
I see 2 kevlar guys not too far from my base. I have only a pistol.
I shoot at them, and they chase me down to the front of my base, they both have M4s.
They managed to kill me right on my doorstep.
I respawn back in, grabbed a pistol. I went out there, and I headshotted one of them right off the bat.
In the process of the gunfight with the other guy, I see a naked guy closely observing.
The kevlar guy then Rushed me! and I shoot my P250 at lightning speed and I drop him, with me only having 20 HP left.
Having a huge relief off my chest, thinking I can just sprint away from this nakey and shoot him, as soon as I lay my finger on that shift button, he one hits me with a pickaxe...
and I can't spawn in my base anymore nor anywhere near it.. no bed FTL.
dat frustration. so much stuff spread on your doorstep and you cant pick it up.
Greed...big mistake...that is all
