It will be awesome if we can make a tent in rust as a shelter! Like make a little camp fire so you can work your way threw. You start small then you go big. Ok there is a shack you can make with wood but it will be awesome if we have these awesome tents and use them as a camp fire! That will be great!

If u can destroy a wood shelter in about 3 mins. How safe will be a tent?

I think the concept here is that the tent will be portable, like a sleeping bag so you can pick it up and carry it with you. And also, that it won't have any gaps in it, so you can use it as a way to cook food at night without being seen at long distances. More than any safety the tent would offer over long term, it would provide a shorter term portable way to cook food without being a beacon.

I think the idea would need some more work, if there was more in the way of cold debuffs, something more akin to Frostfall for example would make tents more useful. As it stands finding an out of the way rock crevice that isn't readily observed from a mile away is part of the game, a tent would likely require leather or at the very least cloth, so it would take a lot of effort to gather the materials to craft one and the end result just wouldn't currently offer much in the way of enhancing extant gameplay mechanics.

Well if it would be portable and stop camp fire light of going out... I would agree 100%.. But if it would be not portable or work the same way the wood shelter works. I would say NO.

Camping Tent.. Cost: 20-25 Leather? Or 10 Cloth, 10 Leather maybe. Whatever the case, half the HP of a Shelter, Tent Flap can be made to secure it or to replace a Flap on a raided Tent. Space inside euiqvalent to half the size of the current Wood Shelter, squeeze a Small Storage/Workbench or whatever you want to do with the space. Also functions as a Camp, giving a respawn point but resetting the spawn timer (default 5minutes) on all other Sleeping Bags/Tents within 100m.

Would be a nice transition from naked caveman to shelter/ 1x1 foundation to be able to save some wood in the early goings, also useful for raiders.. possibly replacing the need to carry too carry around piles of barricades. Make it portable but with the same timer as when you respawn on a sleeping bag, I think it takes 3-4min before you can pick it up afterwards.

    Make it so.

if added, needs to be able to be destroyed by melee in 1-5 hits. but it seems pointless
shelter can be made in 2 minutes

The problem I have with the fire thing....on the lowest settings nothing stops the light but the terrain and rocks so even if you have a furnace inside of a massive base it'll still light up like a mofo if someone has the graphics on minimum

I think that fire light effect needs to be changed. At the moment it is only a distance... No mater what is in the way of light. It will still go through and light on any object. U need to make a base in the lain field and make it like 7x7 to stop the light going out.

only way it would really be worth is if it is like a sleeping bag that comes with a longer lasting camp fire.

TOTALLY AGREE, for PVE/survivalism, some notes should be taken from Frostfall, that was a total game changer. I believe that the presence of danger involving temperature would level the playing field a little bit between full Kev people who hunt new spawns and the new spawns getting pwn'd by full Kev dudes. Not enough danger from your environment aside from wolves. Exposure would be a sweet addition, and would justify a tent that would a) be a portable way to survive temp exposure from night runs, and b) cut off light from fire so you won't be a beacon. Of course, changes need to be made for all of this to work, in the way off exposure debuffs, fire LOD settings, weather patterns, etc. I also think it'd be neat to be able to hide your tent/small shack using bushes/debris. Devs have discussed farming, said it's in progress, so grabbable vegetation will be implemented soon. It'd be pretty easy to include twigs/bushes/branches in that category and make them deployable/craftable with tents to make disguised tents. (this is getting to be more of a wishlist now :pp)

Love the tent idea. It should cost like 5 wood and 10 leather to craft in my opinion. I see the normal/red bears and wolves will react to torchlight, flashlight and laserpointers at night and will try to hunt you down. Like in the hollywood film "The Grey", so you have to hide in your tent at night to be safe. That would be huge for the game because the only thread you have ingame are players trying to raid you 24/7...

How about a tent that is rock coloured - making hard to spot in rocky outcrops etc? Or at least camo options?

Bingo. Whatever form a tent might take in the game, it won't be secure. So it must be able to be hidden. What about an actual fake rock shaped/coloured tent thing you can hide amongst rocks? Something like a dome tent with irregularity.

When the map is much larger, people might want a quick way of hiding and sleeping mid-journey. It could say make a distinctive tent noise when you brush past it and might look slightly different to normal rocks up close.
