The official servers are horrible IMO. Poor performance and too much hacking. My first experience on a custom server was similar to OP experience, so I started my own. I get killed and dont retaliate, im basically there to help if anyone needs it. If Im a target, so be it. We do run Magma but run it vanilla. PVP is welcome, KOS is welcome, Raiding is welcome. The only rules you could possibly break to get kicked and or banned would be hacking/cheating (and it would have to be really obvious, im not going to ban someone because of suspicion alone) and harrassment such as repeated racist remarks.

I was about to answer the OP with responses to each of the 10 points, but each point has the same flaw.

This is on a per-server basis. It has nothing to do with a server being custom owned. Bad administration is just bad administration. It isn't a reason to say "all custom servers are bad".

Even if you have played on multiple servers and think that because most of them have bad administration that "all custom servers are bad", that's just confirmation bias at work.

I have not ran into a bad Admin yet. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Agreed palying anywhere but official server is stupid because regardless of what the admins say out of 34 servers i was on every single one had admin right abusers to some degree. Some not much yet some. Some extreme.

But they can't even reset the Official servers so new foundations can be placed..............

Sorry losing any kind of faith in this games future.
Sounds to me like the developers got into something thats way over their head and are not capable to proceed accordingly. Hope im wrong.

i am the administrator of this server i cannot argue with the contents of the chat log i will however say that the stuff at the top of the post is all false and i ask you to please join this server to see for your self and have some fun
Well that's a good defense if I ever saw one.

I do agree with the OP's position and can understand his frustration..... however, in your defense (and it's not a great defense) You pay for the server, you for the most part, own it, thus you can set any rules you want and ban whoever you damn well please, even if you have no real justification for doing so.

Again.... that's not a really good defense for your position.

The problem is that it's a community thing, and you even said you built up a community on your server, but it won't remain a healthy community when you continue to pull actions like you did in the described OP.

If you have certain rules and guidelines for players to abide by, those players can't read minds and they need to be aware of those guidelines. Where you went wrong was not at least warning him of his actions first and just went straight to banning him from the server for something he wasn't aware of.

You noted your server as PvP, which does include KoS. I don't like KoS'ers and don't KoS people myself, but I accept that they exist and anybody can attack me at any given time.

The other problem is that you didn't note your server as "Friendly" which generally means that aggressive KoS'ing is frowned upon and new players are at least given a chance to start out. Just by going by your Server's name shown at the very top of this thread, I would have assumed it was a PvP server with a very good chance of having a lot of bandits, raiders and KoS'ers on it.

You were too quick and heavy with the Ban Hammer in this situation and it reflects on the community as a whole.

While you may have pleased those already regulars on your server, it gives the impression to everybody else that your server is run by hot heads who expect others to know its rules without any reference or explanations and will ban people without warning.

Trying to be polite after the evidence has already been presented showing your attitude and tossing swear words at the OP for clearly asking why he was banned (and even apologizing) and not even getting a second chance...... and then even trying to come in here and advertise your server for all of us to join it..... is just pretty sad.

not all admins are badmins. I do my best to harbor a good community and i'm very much against abuse. I left 2 servers because of admin abuse. If I become what I hate, I'll just shut down my server.
Agreed... I pick certain servers with certain communities that suit me, with decent admins. Since buying this game back in Jan, I have only encountered one hacker and no abusive admins.

And I don't bother with official servers.

Not all admins are horrible and evil.

    Edited:

The admins on this server are some of the best I have come across. These guys are very helpful, respond almost immediately, and take hours upon hours out of their day to make sure the server is free of hackers, running smoothly, free of whining and full of fun......
    Free of Whining?

"I've heard plenty of reports on you"
"Well sorry, to many complaints on u"

Sounds like they're not doing their job in that department..... sounds like plenty of whining to me.

These guys are busting their asses to make sure hackers, exploiters, and just plain toxic players are dealt with, even if it's a simple talking to.
Doesn't seem like that happened.... he was banned and then he got a talking to after the fact, which resolved nothing but him remaining being banned.

    Edited:

    Please this X 100000000000.

Make one admined official server and charge monthly to make it economically viable. You will have a maxed server .... Pleeeeeeeesze!!!

    Think about it. Charge 10 dollars a month whatever, 10 dollars x 200 players = 2000 a month.
Charge people a monthly subscription and I'll stop playing..... period.

And you can expect the population of Rust to quickly dwindle away.

If you want to have an experience that is controlled and regulated without as many hackers, KoS'ers, etc.... then all you need is to have passworded servers you can sign up to with decent admins.

There's plenty of servers out there with various settings and various types of admins and moderating.... if you want to keep all the undesirables out of your previous server, then have it password protected.

But that won't be coming along until the game is officially released.

I play the game as it was meant to be played, I don't KoS, I don't hack, exploit or cheat and I more than often help out new and existing players on the servers I play on.... I offer help, tips, pointers, guide people to safe areas, warn them of dangerous areas or bandits, KoS'ers, etc...... I enjoy this game.

But if there is a monthly subscription added to this game, I will stop playing instantly. I avoid any game where I have to pay for it right off the bat and then end up having to continue to pay for that game just to play it. It's a money grab and a rip off. I will quit based on principle alone. I bought this game knowing that it wasn't a monthly subscription / additional fees don't apply.

If that changes, then not only will I stop playing, but I'll even consider it borderline false advertisement for changing the product to something else I didn't originally pay for.

A real admin should not even play on his own server. Only be a server hoster tbh.

if you can't play on the server you're paying for, why pay for it?

only problem with this is if the admin wants to play, they play on other servers then the one where they have admin, making it lawless with no one in charge to punish whatever rule-set they have/hackers and glitchers. Then ontop of it, when they're sick of looking at the game, if they want their server to be good, they have to put in 'work' watching the server they pay for.

I tried to play on the Russia official server, and I saw a pop-up message " If you've seen a cheater write to the forum novgames.ru" (not literally). I can not comment more. How is this possible, admin on the official server?

Admins as players will ALWAYS run into accusations of abuse. If you're just renting a server for yourself and don't care about the population then fine, go nuts (seems like a waste of money to me but whatever). If you're trying to build a community with a decent amount of regular players then you can't play under the same name you admin with, even if you're the best admin ever you will have whiners complaining about perceived abuse.

Best solution all around is to play with one account, admin with another.

I suggested charging monthly only for the official server with a paid admin, learn to read.

I've been on plenty of servers and have only seen admin abuse one time. I left the server and found a better one.
