I would like to see a new building item created. A floor portal with a ladder.

This would allow you to build a 'staircase' in a single room without it taking up the entire room. It would be a ladder that could be placed in any part of the room and that connects to a porthole in the ceiling above it.

I would prefer to build my house on a single foundation surrounded by walls. A floor to ceiling ladder would allow you to do this.

The mechanics could allow you to 'use' the ladder to automatically transport you between floors. No climbing animation would be necessary.

The porthole could have a hatch that would lock like any other door and could be blasted with one charge.

The porthole with ladder would have to be placed between a floor and ceiling and would block anything else from being built on top of or under it.

I think this idea could revolutionize base building and could introduce a new dynamic of gameplay.

while this is a good idea, there is no real difference between this and stairs, also its much less secure as if you would only need 1 charge to blow it open your better off using stairs and doors, it would pretty much be an irrelivant addition

if you look at the Rust Art trello, you'll see that they are implementing Half-ceilings and Stairs that can be placed from floor to ceiling, so in a 1 by 1 that is 2 stories tall, you can climb a floor.. much like the current staircase.

    Edited:

    also, trap doors.

This would mainly be used inside a structure so that you can access an upper level from the same room. I just don't think that it is necessary to have to build extra foundations to support a ladder or staircase. As long as the room is secured there would be no direct outside access to the ladder.

That Trello note is for the Base Wooden Structure, the hoboe shack. Not a full fledged structure.

Here is a crude image to emphasize my point of why this would be good.
