To be honest, nothing. If Garry wants a pvp game, then nothing should replace the zombies. Make the loots only in the rad towns and make players fight for them.
Putting in anything else will fuck up the true pvp aspect of the game.
also add dinosaur reins so i can ride a dinosaur and crush noobs wielding m4s with my velociraptor

So in the consolidated thread where obvious losers were shed and this thread's favorite unlisted idea of tribal natives was added (and we had multiple choice) we got the following results.
Tribal Natives 88 Votes for 57.89%
Dinosaurs 67 Votes for 44.08%
Military 30 Votes for 19.74%
Giants/Mythical Creatures 50 Votes for 32.89%
This effectively knocks military off the list, and indicates that Tribal natives would likely have been even more popular than dinosaurs, if they had been included on the list from the getgo.
The thread was locked for unstated reasons, but accruing over 150 votes I feel it served its purpose.

Around 300 people are by far not enough to make him integrate something which he perhaps added as a joke.
I have 2 suggestions
1. works with middle to high populated servers. make some citys around the map and a big one in the middle , nothing like there are in the map right now, bigger and more "rusty". Maby destroyed houses or wooden houses like gohst towns.
there loot should spawn random places and in hide and open areas.
examples:
2. You have to grind your way to the top, more workbenches/areas and a longer way from start to finish thecnology wise. more things to do with the recources.
have to go true stages in thecnology stone, iron, middel age to a more rusty modern age. say it will take a week for 2 guys to go thru the stages.
examples:
blacksmith furnace to make metal objects (tools, gun parts etc)
workbench/areas for wood parts (Tool handle, planks, building parts in wood)
to take crafting time away from a player to a work area.
As far as zombie replacements, have irradiated military, have them spawn in and around the towns. Give them team ai, and high end weapons, like govt conspiracy cover up sorta stuff. Have us treated as the infected and are to be eradicated on sight. Overload the odds on the military too so it takes concentrated attacks by teams of several people.

Diversity makes every game. It is what people are used to call in-game freedom.
Rust is a thrilling game, but it lacks it. We need more items, actions, npcs etc.
Of course, now its alpha, nothing to talk about getting all stuff immediately, but the key
to the greatest gameplay is diversity. Whatever we talking about.
The thread was locked because the suggestion is incredibly racist and unbelievably ignorant of the history of abuse and exploitation towards native peoples by technologically superior invaders. In addition, given gaming culture, this "feature" would inevitably attract thousands of screaming racist preteen FPS players that would dominate and color the game completely. "Going to rad town to kill some slurs" in chat all day long.
A game like Rust requires some fantasy so it can be enjoyed with a safe boundary from reality for the sake of the game being a game. However, magical things would diminish the natural survival aspect. Dinosaurs are perfect because they are both natural yet fantastic and outside the realm of human experience. They also allow an open-ended theme that could facilitate multiple game modes with different item sets and loot tables of different technological levels. Mutant animals are also a decent option, but lack the flair of dinosaurs in my opinion.
It's quite hard to decide since I haven't got a clear view what FacePunch is aiming for. Post now or like 20000 years ago?
Military or Mutant Milatary, adding dinosaurs would be a stupid idea.
@Hypevosa I agree if tribal was on the list it would have easily won. I voted for dinos because it was closest thing on list to pre-historic tribal. But also posted as such. A completely tribal survival game would be different, allow for far more artistic freedom with all items(weapons,clothing, ect)and would take nothing from the present form of the game if done right.
What about a time-travel theme?
- Mobs could be replaced with prehistoric animals, sabre-tooth tigers, mammoths and the likes.
- The abandoned buildings would be replaced with nothing.
- The supply drops would be replaced with their sci-fi wormhole wtvr technology counterpart.
-- They would happen more frequently to cope with the missing buildings.
-- They would be noticeable for a shorter time, by a beam of sorts.
-- They would create a huge spike in radiation where they "land".
--- That radiation will mutate the wildlife near the "landing-zone".
--- It will slowly decrease over time, to prevent the whole island from being irradiated.
- Art assets, like trees and animals just have to be replaced with their more prehistoric counter-parts, Click for example. And even more vicious looking mutations.
Plus, unlike Dinosaurs. It's an era in Earths history that hasn't been done so much. It also opens to possibility for prehistoric humanoid mobs with spears and slings etc...

Really, dinosaurs? How can so many people agree with that? Its a SURVIVAL game, this game has so much potential and by far one of the best games i've ever played but something small like robots or dinosaurs i personally think it would ruin this game.
I guarantee this game will have major competition in the next month or so with the new horror survival "The Forest" and by the looks of it the forest will change the whole aspect of 'Horror Survival'. Rust needs something fresh, which i know over time Gary wont let us Rust fans down as the game has potential but i'd agree with some people on various NPC's around the map like cannabilistic tribes or even cannibles in the hills/mountains that venture out at night to hunt.
It seems like alot to do but personally i think it would make the game more enjoyable, challenging and at the same time frightening.
Each to their own i suppose.

Militars is not good. many players kill everything in the servers, much human enemy´s don´t funny.

military, mutants, etc.. any humanoid type is no good.. you got rid of zombies... so why put another human in?
Dinos could be kinda cool.. as long something hunts you at night - im in.
The new enemy should be commiting to a theme
If they add Dinos they would need it to at least make sense world wise.
If they do embrace the whole cave man thing I'd be super happy with that.
But they'd need to:
-Remove all the static buildings
-Remove all the military style things, Kevlar, Guns, Explosives, ect
-Remove Radiation or replace it with something that makes sense.
-Add way more than just what they have weapon wise
-Add way more mobs and mob types
-Add replacement areas of interest and provide reasons to go there.
Or they could add Military to the Rad areas as a direct replacement for Zombies.
Provide them with assortment of Military weapons and Hazmat suits (to make the rads make sense)
Give them 3 to 5 levels of AI difficulty
Workload wise Military is by far easier to add as it requires far less additions / edits to the game.
Add a FPS AI and some models for the Military, shit make them look like they are wearing Kevlar

The question is NOT "what cool mob would you want to have in the game".
replace? nya! orientate on stalker. mutants as hostiles is ok, but not for goodie destribution! here we would need deeper gameplay, like little mutated rats gathering specific garbage of the area (city. forest, caves, bunkers, laboratories) they live, they create "piles" (like the garbage piles in borderlands) and in these you can search for useful items, in forests they will gather mainly forest stuff, while in the city they gather human created stuff and of course garbage! maybe you can even kill one of them while he is carryin something? they react on light, aggressive behaviour only when the player destroys their garbagenestpielthing or if they are in danger, should be omnivore and can be atrracted by food if you drop it (drop food inside a trap, and maybe you can catch one of these creatures). fluffy chicken are a must have for every survivor. maybe you just go around and throw cages with chickens around!

I love the realism of this game, I really don't want it to become another game with unrealistic enemies. There are already soooo many of those games about. I want a realistic survival game with enemies that fit in with the "theme". That rules out 6 of the options right away.
I don't want military either. The fact that you practically start as a caveman whilst there are people there that are already several thousand years ahead of you also seems kinda stupid.
Enemies that are the same as other characters "could" work. But there would have to be a reason behind them being aggressive and they'd have to somehow evolve in line with the server and not be limited to certain areas. If they start with weapons they're gonna make starting off too hard, n if they never evolve they will become too easy and pointless. Surely it would be easier to forget them and rely on certain players being aggressive?

To be honest I'd rather nothing directly replaced them. But maybe just add more animals that live in more specific areas and drop more specific resources (dinosaurs would fit this). So people have to travel to hunt them.
Garry always said the biggest enemies will be other players which I still love and still believe is the way to go. But give people a reason to hold certain plots of land and to fight for it (area specific resources), and give others a reason to trespass on it or in a friendlier community ... Let it create a means of trading between players.
I think there should be more than one type of hostile enemy. Perhaps mutated humans and military.
I like the idea with Dino's as it already is a little stoneage game, i see no problem, i'll enjoy it more with Dinos i think
I want to see skin melting off, glowing in the dark, screaming in pain mutated creatures. I want to see the player models mutated too. Imagine looking through the crack in your wall to see the hideous deformed face of another player peering back at you. With customizable deformities of course.
