For those who voted military, why did you vote it? I can't really see military fitting into Rust without it being so jarring that it's out of place.

It is true that the military may seem in Rust with timing delay, but they can also give a look of intrigue to the game

"Why a military base is hidden here ..."

īto me it doesnt matter that much what kind of creature, the BEHAVIOUR is important.
will it actively search the player, react to sound and movement? will it roam the map? how deadly are its attacks? how hard is it to kill?īcan it attack your house?
the animals in rust right now are nothing but a miserable necessity for ressources and I never felt but annoyed by them.. except maybe the first time :S when i still thought i could skillfully dodge the slow bear attack, not knowing that once he attacks, it will hit me no matter how far away I am.

Gonna jump on the bandwagon here and just saying from the whole rads perspective, mutated humans make the most sense, though to be honest, if you just scrapped that whole thing and gave me the ability to ride little foot, or slap a muzzle on godzilla and ride him into little rad to stomp on everyone, i would probably give you my money.

You do not necessarily wrong, but unfortunately, we get bored quickly Rust, as it would be repetitive with conventional animals.

No, I think it is sufficient to take the votes of the players and start on a server creatures player choices. Thus, everyone will be satisfied and in addition there will be a large variety of monster.

    Order quantity on a map.

    I.Dinosaurs
    998 28.98%

    II.Military
    790 22.94%

    III.Giants / Mythical Creatures
    443 12.86%

    IV.Mutant Humans
    317 9.20%

    V.Zombies
    251 7.29%

    VI.Mutant Animals
    234 6.79%

    VII.Aliens
    162 4.70%

    VIII. robots
    119 3.46%

    VIIII.Other Players
    66 1.92%

It is sufficient to place the right sets, with good creatures in good quantities. All this on the same server I'm sure this is possible.

    Edited:

And finally, all these creatures have found a logical manner in the game Those who have been chosen with the fewest votes would be very rare.

Maybe even changing servers with monsters increasingly rare. In the first servers, classic animals and some military move to a stronger server give new and stronger creatures!

Wait, why are "other players" spawning enemies?

I'm 99% sure that suggestions to just throw everything onto the map are even less likely to happen than any single one of these choices. I'd expect zombies to come back first.

Wouldn't mind multiple choices though. Mutant animals and mutant humans would go well together. Perhaps giants and mythical creatures too.

I like the idea of getting cryptids and implementing them into rust, I can see the mothman fitting in with the new forest design that is shown on the playrust page. Personally I would like to see dinosaur-like mutants ingame, my personal idea is this...
    Mutated Lizard

    To sum it up,
-Players approaching the mutated lizard will begin to take on radiation
-Only spawn/come out of hiding at night
    - Roughly 1.5x the size of the player
-The mutated lizard has poor eye-sight and will not notice players who are careful around it
-If the mutated lizard hears a sound, it will pause for a second and go investigate
    - If a player gets to close it will attack, each bite inflicts considerable radiation on the player
    - Killing the mutant will allow players to 'harvest' its body for Lizard Hide, which is used to make rad suits and Kevlar, as well as blueprints (granted they exist in the final build)

I think the creature would be awesome to have in game, players could throw items to distract it, use flares to scare it off or even manipulate them into attacking other players.

Yes, the idea of cryptids is really good! I defend for a while. (And those who appreciate should mettrent stars in masses on the dialogues that talk.)

Programmers could even make a story around that turn. Human without memory, left to themselves. Unknowingly, they are there to kill the last cryptids ...

    Edited:

Why not, a gigantic creature, which looks like an abandoned house to snare his victims!

It would look like at any point in a structure, house, tower, or even ancient temple. And a player trying to get back in, he is attacked by it. The looting of wood, stone, but perhaps a plan or scheme to make something? It could also looting some tools!

This must obviously be hard enough to kill a monster!

AI cavemanesque tribes, some can spawn around static structures, such as caves and mud huts, others could migrate round the map with nomadic tents made from animal skins etc. Wielding crude melee and ranged weapons, they worship shrines and have ritualistic dances etc.

Aggression stance could be variable towards players, some attacking on sight, others passive and some friendly. Attacking one member of the tribe would result in the whole tribe forming a posse and will chase and attempt to kill you. Outrunning them should be difficult so if you decide to attack them to steal their resources etc you will need to have superior weapons or help.

Large tribes could gather materials and gear up easily making it harder for other players to kill them as the game progresses, but also increases the reward for killing them.

I'm all for insane creatures roaming and tunneling through the world. I'd really be happy if players were more forced to work together than kill each other to survive. There are too many games out there whose AI is so simple to get around, and mostly just rely on other players for entertainment.

    Yeah, is the Trémor?
To which could be very cool is to have a very low chance that where a player dies there is a few hours a ghost is lurking scares other players. It would even be great fun whether it be dead players are playing own ghost.

He could not really do damage, but maybe he could pass through walls and also tire more quickly the players still alive when they are crossed by the ghost?

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

He might be playing as a ghost, a maximum time before disappearing. And if they are lucky that their avatar created a phantom death. We really need to be very rare and therefore enjoy the moment when this happens.

If they're going to drop weapons and blueprints and all sorts of goodies, the only thing that makes sense is Military.

Why would a mutant wolf carry a backpack with a metal door? lawl

OK, so let's say military, should they be "mutated" by radiation or whatever? Sure, maybe, but I don't think that's necessary either.

Why not just have Military BOTs? You can interact and trade goods with them. Give them some of your delicious grilled chicken, or hopefully some tasty bear meat in the update, and they give you a pistol to defend yourself. Bring them heaps of gunpowder and they trade you blueprint for something sweet.

Shoot to kill them and rob their shit, and they dispatch all the BOTs against you! lol

All the other options are funny, and interesting, and mythical, and cool, but let's face it--it doesn't make sense. If you want dinosaurs, sure, fuggit, let's put in some dinosaurs, but let's just grill their tasty dino meat and sit around at dinner discussing how much velociraptor tastes like chicken, not the awesome Explosive Charge BP you just got from it's backpack.

I think it's mostly a matter of variety, to avoid always kill the same monsters they really are all unique, and each is a different method to kill him. This will prevent bored and give much more interest in the game if there are only military, we will quickly end up having all firearms and eventually we'll just play a FPS.

We will quickly turn round ...

The only reason enemies drop those right now is to make them available somehow.

All of this can change totally. Enemies could drop absolutely nothing and everything has to be scavenged or crafted or harvested. You're playing a sandbox, I hope you realize.

It would be a shame not an enemy loot anything. But in principle, I understand a little loot military does not necessarily objects to keep a certain balance in the game now, it must still an animal, mythological or not loot the skin or meat .

An enemy of "modern" type of force is not looting weapons, a small knife, a box of food, 5 or 6 cartridges and that is enough.

I would say that there will be less "modern" enemies (military, gear, robot) better the game will.

I am sort of on the fence when it comes to what enemies should drop. To me it really depends on what the enemy is going to be.

For example, having monsters drop military loot would not make that much sense. HOWEVER, monsters and mutants could drop some special materials that could be used for crafting special or unique items. Teeth could be gathered from a monster to create some kind of weapon. Perhaps poison could be extracted from some of these monsters. (of course if poison were added then there would have to be some way to counteract that as well).

Over the monster is more strong tooth gives a high value.

    Human tooth = $ 1
    Tooth mutant = $ 2
    Bear tooth = 3 dollars
    Yeti or bigfoot tooth = $ 5
    velociraptor tooth = $ 5
    T-Rex tooth = $ 100.

my thoughts to what we should get as enemys:

first there should be just wildlife(much more than now like snakes and since we got water on the map maybe something like crocodiles) and a few abandoned buildings(like hangar now) where you find evrything to survive until you build your first small house.

then there should be a few kind of enemys and locations like radioactive towns/villages with rad wildlife similar to the ones now just weaker more agresive and maybe blind they just react to sounds you make so you have to decide betweeen wasting munition to kill them and clear the whole town or sneak and take more than one run to get evrything(should also create some funny situations when there are two players trying to sneak through the town)as loot theire should be some advanced weapons like a sports bow or pistols, maybe make some laboratory under some town with much higher radiation where you can find rad suits and plans for metal houses.
another kind of enemys and location should be the forest/jungle with some other kind of wildlife like gorillas and some tribes wich live in treehouses or caves in the mountains that drops you some silend weapons like spears, blowpipes with poisoned arrows and plans for some traps or the treehouses they could also drop sometimes a bit military loot from people they killed.
the fourth kind of enemys could be some human npc wich hide in their villiges/houses and defend them against you with weapons they could drop some scrap weapons and also plans for metal houses

than to give us some kind of bossfigths there could be some heavy mutated animals like big spiders, mutaded komodowarane which spit fire(yeah mini dragons) and maybe some mutated reptiles that are now more like small dinosaur wich all drop some kind of unique materials for legendary armour/weapons for example the sipders could drop a web than can be made to a armour even stronger than kevlar or the mini dragons can drop some kind of napalm.

and at last one military base to explain the airdrops and military loot. this base could be so strong that you need like 10 full armoured playes with great teamwork to even get to the first storerooms. theire ccould be some technical and military loot better the near you get to the center of the base like flamethrower, rocketlaunchers/grenadelaunchers or laptops you could use to get a live overview of the map.

sorry for the my bad english and a realy long text^^

Yes, sandbox! How did I forget?! Sorry, just a little sarcasm because it's repeated so often.

You are right though, that can definitely change, but the topic of how that would change wasn't discussed. I suppose when the question is "what should replace AI animals?" I assumed (maybe, falsely) that they are expected to provide a similar role/function.

So, let's get on a bit of a tangent here: if the AI change, whatever they may be, mythical or what not (who cares, let's put it all in ;] why not, sandbox!), how does technology become available to players?

Eliminate all blueprints, have everyone be capable of crafting any recipe if they have the materials, make the materials things you scavenge from ruins or harvest/mine or what-have-you. I mean, you don't need an industrial factory to make this:

    or

Leather and fur can be harvested from animals unless all suitable beast-type creatures get removed and Rust is now about fighting back against the robots that took over or something.

That's just one alternative option to the way things are currently.

I tend to agree. Some guts, we make a further or gourd. A little skin, it is a coat or jerkin, some scratches are made jewelry. And the bones can even make tools or weapons.

Now, if I defend all the mythological creatures (bigfoot, yeti, giant carnivorous plant etc) is really to give a lot of variety in the game is always more fun wearing a fur coat or giant lizard that chupacabra a simple coat traditional bearskin ... In addition to the IA of this kind of creature will be really much more mysterious.

Bigfoot can be programmed in this way: Reactions noise but do not attack, following the sound of a short distance away, attack when too loud noise may scare him.

Yeti: very protective of his land, he attacks if a player stays longer than 10 minutes on its territory.

Chupacabra: Always in packs, they attack if they outnumber the players, or a player with him to an animal (horse, dog, etc.), they always kill the pet first. Otherwise, they revolve around the players a time.

Giant carnivorous plant: a plant like looting, attack a player is in his worn. They could be spit acid on a small length.

Mothman: Always alone, he attacks players or any creature who is injured at 20% of its total hit points. He always surprise attack.

Ufo: They could be an event, a crashed ship that remain a few hours (maybe 24 hours?) Before the UFO manage to do again. This could happen randomly once in a month!

    Edited:

Obviously, there are so many different creatures that - they are a small example of how they might react.

Practically, what I understand is this: do we keep it realistic or add fantasy? If we keep it realistic then maybe we should leave it like that. Of course, animals must be added for food. If we want to make it a fantasy/unrealistic game then we can add all of them.
I would prefer to keep it real and I think that other players are worst than everything.

^ Why does Rust need a currency?

Players already trade and barter goods/materials. A currency would be worthless without a banking system and some way of enforcing the currency's value.

"You say a T-Rex tooth is worth $100? Great. Now hand over your loot or I'll shoot you in the face with my Pipe Shotgun" :) That's the kind of currency that Rust is based upon.

The idea of currency being invented sounds really dumb to me. Currency is only worth anything if it represents something else. In our world, our money represents gold. In Rust, our money would be... Teeth? Come on, trading is way better than that, and you don't have people constantly driving the price up on things because of artificial inflation.
