in the wilderness when it is pitch black, you literally cannot see anything.

and so it should be. get a torch or a flashlight out if you want to see. moon phases and overcast would be excellent though

Having lived in the woods my entire life, I can assure you this is completely untrue. When it's the middle of the night, the sky is cloudy, the moon is new, and it's raining like crazy you can't see more than a couple feet, but you really can still partially "see" via peripheral vision.

    First, sometimes the game crashes.

Also, I have some pictures comparing the fps with the new patch, and without. (Performance decreased with the new patch! In some zones, more than 20 fps of difference).

Fps are on the right corner of the screenshots.

Hes underwater :D You can walk down the slopes - there is no entity for water height yet so it has no collision = no swimming. What you see there is the water shader from below :)
ohhhh ... I am sorry, on the first look I thought what a bad quality ... sheeech ...
Ok but now it looks amazing, what a great pricture ;-P

But building a base below could cause some trouble in the future, i am sure ;)

So there are no ponds or lakes yet? Nobody has posted a pic of the water surface yet.

Its already on the trello list - thats why its only on the dev server and not on the "real" ones :D

Nono just the shaders for the ocean has been updated - no change to the map as of yet. It just has planar reflections and a nice normal-map animation. But thats the basis for lakes / rivers etc. i'd guess.

On normal server average fps is about 55-82.
But on the dev servers just by looking on mountains im getting 20-25 fps, so uncomfortable.

Finally made it onto a dev server, they new lighting is gorgeous, but I really miss the pitch black nights, I don't need torches or flashlights at all now. Hope this is just a glitch.

    Looks beautiful.

This update likely to force a server wipe (even for community servers)? Just thinking if its worth building anything before it goes up.

FYI you should see a pretty good FPS increase now, I tweaked some stuff that was affecting performance.

Thanks Garry, the FPS is great. If anything I saw it increase from 80 to 120fps by the hangar!
But I would say that the mechanics are kinda buggy?

The new sky/lighting/fog/water in oin the dev branch. Anyone tried it? Any render problems? Any FPS problems? Is FPS better? Worse? By how much?
    HI Garry.

With my setup i have 172 FPS with grass.on false., with grass.on true 60-75 Fps
The clouds looks good, maybe move to fast.

Try disabling the grass shadows. I tested this several times and it appears that the grass shadow is kinda buggy.

have noticed that trees in the distance don't update their lighting unless you move the mouse.
timelapsed 3x this small example, had a better spot for recording it but got killed sorry

I noticed wolves & bears will climb rocks to get to you on the dev server. Do they do that currently in the live version? Last time I was in that situation they definitely wouldn't climb up, but that was a couple of updates ago.

Garry, I know you guys are always working on ways to improve the game. But is there any possible update in the near future that might increase performance so that we can have populated servers without lagging each time a building loads on your screen?

I could come around your house and upgrade your computer?

This sky is part of the efforts to increase performance. We're seeing FPS increases pretty much across the board now we've got rid of the old sky. And for some reason the server starts up 10x faster than it did.

I didn't have any issues but I'm also running a top of the line machine.

To make things as realistic as possible I think if it's a cloudless night then there 'should not' be pitch darkness. Now if it's overcast and stormy yes only broken by random lightning when stormy. Foggy/Stormy nights should help mask movements and object viability (buildings and the light inside).

To make a quick segway I'd like to suggest a potential replacement for the Zombies/Mutant Animals. I think an really cool (and realistic) NPC faction would be roving groups of people who have succumbed to cannibalism to survive.

I dont think the building load lag has much to do with computer performance, I and several friends with top notch computers (i7-3970k, 4770k, gtx 770, 780, 16gig ram, etc) still feel the 'twitch' as a building comes into (or out of) "graphic load range" . Especially the larger buildings.

The new sky looks fantastic, I really enjoy dawn and dusk a lot more. I've never had FPS issues, but it appears that I've gotten about a 20 FPS boost just from the update alone.

    Here's my specs:
    GPU: GTX 560 Ti 448
    CPU: i7 2600
    Display: 1920x1080 (60hz)

    Definitely enjoying the new sky.
