A few days ago my Steam account got hacked and the hackers was playing my games trying to get me VAC banned. After recovering my account i realized I am banned of quite a few games and have reported it to steam. However, i am also banned off all Rust servers, as rust was one of the games the hacker played. This is very annoying, i've only recently got the game and now i can't play it. Could anyone tell me how to solve this or whether there's a ban appeal section?

    It's doesn't matter.

Like steam says... You were responsible for your account, if you let it get hacked, your fault. Period..

If you've got hacked and retrieved your account, tell Valve to lift the ban.

Valve can lift VAC bans as long as you make a reasonable point with them.

If they still don't then you're lying and I would know it.

When they retrieved your account they would have given you some info that you can forward onto VAC and Cheatpunch.
Send the details to them and request to be un-banned. If you got the proof, they will un-ban you.

I'm nowhere near as good as some of the internet detectives on this forum, however a quick google search of "1337matty" does give quite a few results that involve sites that specialize in bots and an account on MPGH (however it has been inactive since 2009.)

As far as losing all of your progress, is that really a big deal? It's just like getting raided, or a server being wiped...

BTW someone getting onto your account is no excuse, that's you're responsibility, especially with steam guard

if you can't properly secure your account then fuck maybe you shouldn't be unbanned. This is your fault for not using steam guard. I could post my account name and password and be fine knowing that no one can get into my account. (and if you did have steam guard, you need to secure your computer better.)

not our issue though. Valve handles VAC, not facepunch.

You know guys, every great once in a while these sort of things DO happen. It happened to me quite a while back. I opened a file without thinking, my screen flashed and my Steam password and details had been changed. It took two days of dealing with Steam support and faxing a scan of my credit card and photo ID to get it back and when I did, I was VAC banned. It took a couple more days of dealing with support but eventually they removed the ban and all traces of it.

Look, I'm not saying this guy's legit, lord knows enough people post bullshit trying to get a ban lifted, all I'm saying is maybe step off the guy's nuts a bit.

I know its been brought up, but you say you had Steam Guard on. Did you log into Steam at a public computer or anywhere other than your own computer? The way Steam guard works is that it sends a code to the E-Mail address that is tied to the account that "authorizes" the computer you are at to access said account. You can't even change e-mail addresses without either proof of account ownership or access to the previous e-mail address. I say this as unless it was a computer that you had already authorized they would have had to have gotten into your e-mail to get to your Steam account. I don't mean to be an ass but while it does happen it seems a bit fishy, especially since despite that fact that you apparently got in contact Valve you still came here to try and appeal it.

He came here to ask what to do and wether there was an appeal section here, he's not outright appealing his ban in this thread.

I would contact steam/valve, I've never dealt with their customer service before, so I wouldn't be much help with that, but I do have similar experiences with other games, wow, runescape and a few others, it usually works out okay, they can track where the access to your account has came from, they will know if it was hacked.

It does appear you have been key logged, I would run your anti-virus scan, a malware bytes scan and get that resolved. After which change all your passwords again, to be safe.

    Best of luck.

I'm glad you got in possession of your steam account again. I imagine that must've been a nightmare. However, there is little we can do to help. Go for steam support and explain your situation here. They probably have a way to check the infractions happened during the time you weren't in control of your account, and if that's the case, as somebody up here mentioned, they'll lift your bans

Seeing as you claim to have only accessed Steam at home, I take it the password to the e-mail account tied to your Steam account was something easily guessed? Again, the only way a "hacker" could access your Steam account if you have Steam Guard on is if they get into the e-mail address tied to the account. When you access Steam from a new computer it sends an authentication code to said e-mail address. Without it you cannot log into a Steam account unless you send in proof of account ownership.

People know this, thus they are having a difficult time believing you were "hacked".

I find it so annoying that people automatically assume that this guy used hacks!

I guess it is possible you did use hacks, but it doesn't seem like you did so I hope you get your account back and bans lifted. Like other people said, facepunch can do absolutely nothing for you now and it would probably be a waste of time to do anything other than contact steam with everything you can tell them.

    This includes the following:
    - Anti-virus used
    - How often you perform system scans
    - Devices used to sign into steam
    - Browsers used to sign into steam
    - Plugins in your browser(s)
    - Your location/activities around the time of your account being hacked (for example, if you where out somewhere or at your PC)
    - Your timezone/times you come online steam
    - All the OSs you log into steam with (For example, windows XP, Windows 7, iOS 6, Android Jelly Bean)
And any other information regarding your steam account. It might be what joystick you plugged in your computer, if it is potentially related to your steam account being hacked you want valve to know about it.

If you do have any luck getting back your account, please do tell us! Good luck!

I find it pretty incredible that you don't think he hacked. There's pretty much no chance at all that someone hacked into his steam account, then went and paid for cheats, installed them, and played with cheats on in order to...get him banned.

He bought cheats like an idiot that were supposed to be "undetectable", terrorized people trying to legitimately play the game, then it turns out they weren't undetectable, got banned, and is now saying "It was the cat. He was playing on my account."

Sounds like a standard case of NOPE.
