And all of you little kiddies eat up the 10% and alpha talk. Am I the only person who thinks millions of dollars should speed up production? Or are you all sheeple?

Oh christ, when will you stop shitposting about this?

The game is in alpha. If you can't deal with that, go play another game for a few months. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The game is not being developed according to your schedule, and you can stop being entitled about it any decade now.

So many things happen behind the scenes. People have projects they work on that until finished won't be introduced. It isn't like they create and upload it in little chunks.

Maybe they could speed it up..

Maybe they can have super much updates.

But we can't change it anyways, you paid for it so the only thing you can do is hope for some new content.

Pretty sure they're bug fixing now, so new contect could take some time.

Simply log in a few months later, only thing you can do. Creating 100 threads will not make a difference.

(You made me laugh on the wallet thing though heuheu)

I see nearly every week there comes an patch
I see devs are working on it so i hope this game will make rapid progress
I see the game will be awesome in the future, as long we support the devs with our requests and opinions. As long the devs will work on it as long the game will improve.
    A good game needs time
    A good game needs effort
A good game needs support and testers (we)
A good game needs love, and thats what they actually are putting in the game
You have to wait for it, till it's finally finished

I am to please. I like the game and enjoy playing it. I like to critically think though, unlike some people. It is hard for me to understand Garry's plan and future, he can do as he pleases. He seems a nice guy, who is intent on making a good game. I guess that is what is weird to me, for this big a response which was obviously a surprise to him, I expected a response from the development side.

He made it clear it was a shock to have this big a player base. He just hasn't made it clear what he was going to do to speed up content updates, if anything. If he has I have missed it. Making excuses or claiming Alpha and whining all over the place, just shows your sheephood, and I will promptly ignore you. I am asking what I believe is a valid question.

This game rocks (pun intended). I am just wondering when the development speed is going to match the games popularity, or at least make a stride to keep up. If it isn't I fear for the games lack of interest leading to a decrease in growth of the game. If some of you can't pull your head out of the rear end of the developers for two seconds to critically think, that isn't my problem.

Keep in mind, this is nuMbx's response when four people refused to agree with him when he demanded locked backpacks be removed after his 4-6 hours of play gave him a negative feeling for them:

or you know try not to kill people? make alliances with people. If you can't defend the loot you don't deserve it.

Also, There are lockpicks just for this reason, make some then you can bypass the lock.
    4-6 hours.

That's hardly enough to justify completely reversing course on something that's taken more than 4-6 hours to implement.

Welcome to alpha, where you test things.

Also, learn to differentiate between the roles of the artists (making rocks look great) and coders (fixing bugs, fixing exploits, adding new features).

Stop acting like they're ignoring cheaters, as well, holy shit. Have you not read one thing the devs have written in the last five weeks?
    1. This is an alpha game that you are testing. Cheating is far from important as time taken to combat cheating has a strong likelihood of having zero effect on the game long term.

    2. You have perfectly illustrated the point of the locked backpack. If you murder someone regardless of you and their gear/wealth if you want their stuff you must either wait or spend a fairly large amount of base resources and hoping what they had is worth it. This will discourage murder to loot, even if only slightly.

    3. The fun of this game is different for everyone, so to try and say that it "ruins the gameplay that makes rust fun" is a personal opinion so you shouldn't state it like its a fact.
Welp this game is trashed. 4 PVE carebears reply instantly with excuses for the game developers on this change. It IS HORRIBLE.

Why are you so sour? Did your mother not let you put sugar on your cheerio's kid? Because this shit is all you seem to be obsessed with saying. its' pretty obvious you don't actually know anything about the development cycle and yet every post is all about how you act like it.

and press off with the fanboy argument, it's such garbage . I hate rust in its current state and wish to see it improve. I hope that, by maybe helping people in the community of rust, this section, I can help the game become better.

Maybe if you weren't so hard pressed on everyone else being fanboys and the devs "doing their job better" and "hiring more people" people would listen to you more.

This "low number of people" made so much money, and the game is so stable and great but it's not a game game yet, don't you think that should be more than adequate to most people?

Have you ever tried hiring employees before? i train/bring everyone up to speed where i work. we usually go through 6 guys before we find one we want to keep(and that actually stays) because of the work they do.
If garry just hired a bunch of random guys to work on the game, it could be terrible. it could actually slow down proccess time if they do a bunch of work, than it ends up not working for the project. if they are bringing new staff in, they will be doing it right, hiring someone they trust and who can show he knows what hes doing. could take weeks to find the right people for every position needed. be patient..

This couldn't be a better explanation
    .
One bad employee in a development team will mess up the entire thing for a while.

This is why I'd rather have a nice tight team of 4 people and we all have good faith in our work than hiring a few people only to handle they emotionally are underdeveloped and don't give a shit about my team or myself.

Additionally, an "Asshole" in your team you can "Just fire on the whim". If you had no realize they'd cause drama or walk around with hands in their pockets right after being on vacation it's actually going to slow and perhaps, sour the development down.

With my team of 4 tight but limited people I may not be able to do more than others until I really learn how to make a game. Once that trusted team really understands what they are doing they can REALLY go far.

I've worked on projects that were paid for in advance. (not programming though)
    Never again.
Folks get demanding and start lording their dollars over your head as though that were the only reason you worked. I can't stand people like that and refuse to work for them, even if it means being broke (which I currently am).

Gary, you made a ton of money on this game, why can't you hire some people and get updates coming a little more often with a little more depth? Are you selfish? Are you prideful? Is it impossible for some reason? You have done a great job man, congratulations on money, but are you willing to do what is right and reinvest that money to growing the game with the player base?

I have not been so excited and happy to play game like Rust in a long time, probably WoW (that is scary). I also have not been so let down as I have as of late, that it is not changing as quick as it should. Updating model looks and changing zombies to red animals is not acceptable for a month of updates when you just made millions of dollars. If you are looking to hit it big and laugh your way to the bank, sure you can do that now. If you are looking to create and sustain something amazing, you really need to get some more men on staff and start making some large steps in progress while you still have a growing and enthusiastic player base behind you.
(underlining mine, bold yours, in this quote)

The guy made, presumably and maybe I am off, about 5 million dollars. He can afford a couple extra developers to help him roll out updates faster.
Why on earth is it unreasonable to suggest a staff enlargement when there is like 5 people working on a multimillion dollar game with a million players? You are flat out stupid if you think that is absurd to suggest. Can you pull your head out of Garry's ass just a little bit and think for a second?

    Edited:

I don't know if it would be that simple, but I do know it is a reasonable thing to do when you have a million players and multimillion dollars coming in. Don't confuse being correct with arrogant. I have never suggested to have all the answers, simply suggestions, you and others have come in steamrolling against my suggestions and comments without even reading my disclaimer in my post. It shows your stupidity and immaturity.
Don't confuse being correct with arrogant. I love this. You are attempting to assert your own opinion as fact, while denying others' opinions validity.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to say that your statement, "It is hard for me to understand Garry's plan and future, he can do as he pleases," sounds like weaseling out of a corner, because in the last few days you have repeatedly and openly talked like you do believe you should have a say in what garry does. That's a long shot from "he can do as he pleases," I'd say.

Oh look. Just after you get done talking about how you don't know the plans and that garry can do as he pleases, you imply that he is making mistakes by not accelerating development to suit you.

Just like you have done for several threads. And then deny doing.

I agree if it stayed like it is, I got my money's worth out of it. Some of the things you guys are saying is simply not intelligent.

    1. He shouldn't hire people, because its hard...
    2. Expressing empathy for a rich person, who made an incredible game, and now has expectations to live up to with his mass amount of wealth
    3. And this continued argument from ignorance, that the game is not horrible, therefore be content

I think most people miss the point that the game is supposed to not be finished. That implies work to be done and implies thought to still be had on the development. The continued argument that nothing should change or making Garry some sort of perfect person who can make no mistakes or has done all he needs to is simply not a smart train of thought.

Possibly the only issues that need addressing are the ones that Garry addresses, when he addresses, and how he addresses them. Maybe, an alternative view is, nobody is perfect and there can be a better way. Some of you guys seems to not be able to think critically or logically, but simply to bash, flame, and overall play the fan boy.

One nerd has went so far as to type 3 replies to me since I last posted, quoting my last post about the games flaws and strengths as a reference to this one. He is obviously upset that I have intellectually demolished him and he stands under his own conscience accusing him of his inferiority in this issue. Don't be like him, think for yourself, state a coherent opinion, and seriously ask yourself the question...

Couldn't Garry at least tell us why development is so slow?

I have said about 10 times now, he doesn't have to do anything. I am just getting a contradictory response between his words and his actions. He has said all over the place amazing things, with great force and authority, with great passion and understanding, but when it comes to the updates rolling out, it is lackluster. Sometimes a simple, "I don't care what you think, I am the developer" or "I am doing what I can, with 5 people, and it won't change", can go a long way in helping the community of players understand what to expect.

Maybe I am the only person here who exercises logic, but when a game gets this popular there tends to be increased support and updates. Just because its "Alpha" doesn't mean I should think any different about the speed at which updates and support is shown. Garry knows what he is doing, he just hasn't told us yet, and I want to know. Why is the games content updated so slowly? Waiting a week for a couple bug fixes repeatedly isn't progress when you are sitting a stack of cash. Turn that cash into assistance to produce content.

Grand Theft Auto 5 cost ~$250 million to develop and market, it didn't come out for a little under 5 years. Rockstar North has 300+ people working for them and Rockstar reportedly said the game took "Probably much more" than 1000 people to make. The game took 5 years, 1000 people and ~$250 million dollars, so I'd say you're ignorant if you think more money means faster games. More money doesn't just magically create code out of thin air, otherwise we'd have Call of Duty twice or more a year.

They are hiring in like all positions. Problem is their location and they dont seem to want to open up to working in multiple locations around the world etc. That opens up an entire new world of problems when they do that. So they are limited to the local talent, which isn't much!

    10% finished game
    100% full wallet on Garry

    no change in development speed.

And all of you little kiddies eat up the 10% and alpha talk. Am I the only person who thinks millions of dollars should speed up production? Or are you all sheeple?
How does that work? Is it like a steam engine where adding more wood makes the fire hotter, causing the engine to turn faster? How does adding money to the development equation affect the amount of work that is possible to do per day? Maybe something like:

Dev. Team Member + $$$ = Work Output
    Hackers

Expressing empathy for a rich person, who made an incredible game, and now has expectations to live up to with his mass amount of wealth
He made his "Mass amount of wealth" because you bought the game. You bought the game in the state you received it with absolutely no promises about anything other than "things will change". Things have changed, expectations met. If you expected anything more than was described, then you're ignorant and shouldn't be allowed to purchase things.

This couldn't be a better explanation
    .
One bad employee in a development team will mess up the entire thing for a while.
People have no idea how true this is.

We had a guy who worked where I'm at for a while... he supposedly had a four year degree from the University of Michigan. He screwed up so much coding we are still working his garbage out six months after he was fired for gross incompetence.

The worst part was he was so out of it he couldn't even back things up. He would overwrite the latest backup with a backup of old work and we'd have to fix problems that had been fixed months before. He did this for months before I got hired and caught him doing tons of idiotic things like that. Management just wasn't keeping a close enough eye on him and bought his BS "explanations" for why things "mysteriously" broke.

Some of the things you guys are saying is simply not intelligent.

    1. He shouldn't hire people, because its hard...
that 1 guy ruined the project you were working on, that could happen to Rust as well.

You don't have to be intelligent to understand that he shouldn't just go out and hire people because it's hard, yeah, that's kinda the point nuMbx

How egocentric are you, exactly? Must be nice living in that little deluded world of yours where everyone revolves around you and only you can see the truth.

Please provide the name of one company that has ever gone out and increased staff size based off preorders. Because of the way Rust purchase is setup they are unlikely to have huge numbers upon release, because most people will already have it. This means that if they were to go out and hire a ton more staff they would take less profits and have less money towards server infrastructure and future development.

TLDR: It's called smart business, increased staffing in software development suffers from diminishing returns.

I am unaware of anything regarding this guy trolling about this topic, but I agree with him. Development resources should have gone up, or be going up, in response to selling over a million copies.

So what you are suggesting is that just because Rust has been selling well, that their small studio should overextend themselves which typically results in a rushed final product instead of taking their time and tackling the important issues?

Do not make the mistake of thinking that developers have to cater to their fan-base. Garry and his fellow developers have proven themselves in the past to know what they are doing, and I am fully willing to see them work at the pace they are comfortable with to keep them motivated in the long-run.

It's not as simple as you put it. The extreme popularity has created a new need that was not there before, dealing with hacks, infrastructure, and project management of all those tasks. I feel Garry probably is spending a ton of time putting out fires, and not able to develop the game. There are server and hosting issues that he thought he wouldn't need to address for ages, if ever. Then there are the hacks, that really need a team focused on just that topic.

Everyone here keeps comparing this to preorders. Selling a million copies is not comparable to a million preorders. The game is done at that point. If you think a company showcased their game as a small team at E3, to come out in 2 years, and then it was the hit of the show, that they wouldn't consider throwing more resources at it, if needed, they wouldn't, you're crazy. Buying an alpha game is buying a game you want to be a part of the process of bug fixing, testing, and sharing feedback on the game. This shouldn't be looked at as just some game you bought that happens to not be done yet, that's not how Early Access works.

I was reading the science section on reddit the other day and there was a study done that proved that adding more people to a project did not necessarily speed the time it took to complete it.

Oh christ, when will you stop shitposting about this?

The game is in alpha. If you can't deal with that, go play another game for a few months. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The game is not being developed according to your schedule, and you can stop being entitled about it any decade now.

A Few months ? Been hearing your type preech "in a few months" for 6 months now.

Forever tomorrow my friends. This game will always be Finished Soon™
