Yes, it's possible. For the people who don't know, you can research the research kits.

You will need 2 research kits. Hold Shift(i did left shift) when you drag a research kit on to the other one.
Sometimes you will be able to use the research kits 2 or more times.

You can find Research Kit 1 in your crafting menu under the category "Tools"
Needs to make it: 20 Low quality metal and 20 leather.
Much recources are needed but when you're lucky u can use the research kit 3 times. You know that when u see "Research kit 3" or Research kit 2(Can be used 2 times)"

Does it work with left shift? I think it only works with right shift.

Well, some people still don't know about shift and ctrl when crafting, slowly killing their left mouse button.

To add that, for people that haven't done this:

It takes 20 low quality metal and 20 leather. (correct me if wrong)

AKA. It takes alot of resources so you could better just find them from red animals or boxes.

This is a major inbalance, since people (clans for example) with a lot of resources will just craft Research Kits instead of looking for it, while the people who have limited resources can't do the same.

It's way much more work to make 20 low quality metal then killing some beasts.. I never had to make one ever, those are easy to find atleast in my experience.

Right. I got nearly a full large storage full of these things and lost one entire large storage full of research kits to decay before. Research kits are nothing special.

Kinda feel i gotta ask, is this intended? or would it be seen as exploiting a bug?

In 265 hours I've never found a BP for research kits. If you were supposed to research research kits, you wouldn't need to hit a key while researching it.

same argument can be made for almost anything in the game...

also, i have made many in a servere where i am based far away from drops. this is to protect my base. sometimes, i get as many as 3 uses per kit i have crafted.

Is having to hold shift in fact the bug, or being able to craft them at all the bug. I mean, having a recipe supports the idea that their crafting was intended at some point, whether this was cut at a later point is another matter. As for no blueprints, as far as i'm aware (please correct me if i'm wrong) there are no blueprints for bolt actions or most of the metal structure parts, but they are all researchable.
