There really was never a point to playing on official servers in my eyes. Well-moderated community servers are where I make my home and other than normal lag/hosting issues, Ive had consistently great experiences.

I thought, as probably a lot of new players do, when I first started playing Rust that the official servers offered more protections than the community servers. It appears that wasn't correct. Too bad I chose to sink nearly 200 hours into an official server, only to have it arbitrarily wiped by a hacker with a God complex.
Omega just struck UK1, he may be still there and has been there the past 40 mins killing everyone repeatedly. On two occasions instead of the Omega symbol it said I was killed by [M4] Russian so wether there is any link I am unsure.
Please do something ASAP as I feel I cannot play with these people ruining a great game.
German1 just have been struck, and the good side he got rid of the RED base.... people on german1 know what i am talking about.. I dont justify his action but i am glad we got rid of that particular base.
Here the NA1 in progress

Thank you for this video of the hack in progress.
A few more days of that and he will win.
soo bad lol
He's already won, for the time being. He destroyed months' worth of hard work and caused a lot of players to "rage quit" the game out of pure frustration. It was, for many, the straw that broke their backs.
That is why I don't play on official servers. When they get right admins, then I will maybe join.
Can you recommend a good server to play on? I, like many others, falsely assumed that the official servers were somehow a "safer bet" than the community servers.
Exactly what I'm doing.
Taking a break till a decent patch comes out and server wipe. Sick of lag and rubber banding on official servers.
Still no word on an official response from Facepunch regarding the "Omega" hack on the official servers? A lot of people are waiting to hear an official response before resuming playing on official servers.
Well. He's still at it. I personally saw him hit Tokyo and US East 3 today with his "servant" Agent Orange who also had a similar hack (but not to the same extent).
I read earlier in the thread that there was a theory of some "friends of the hacker" that did not get affected by Omega and kept their items, but that is not the case.
Omega's hack is an AOE (Area Of Effect) Exploit. Meaning that anyone in a certain radius around him (i assume) is affected by the attack. So anyone who was not effected was simply out of the range.
I have a base on East 3, and because of what i had seen him do on Tokyo, I immediately put all of my items into my inventory and tried to wait it out. My base is near the wastelands (well out of the way) so i figured i would be safe from the attack. For the first 4 or 5 AOE attacks i was safe, but on the final one i was hit and lost everything.
^I hope this clears up how the hack functions and why people were lucky enough to not be affected.
Thanks for the clarification. That's really good info. for us and the development team. Hopefully, they can stop this nonsense.

Ahh, the good ol' victim blaming.
Rest assured that every act of cleansing was in complete accordance with the laws of the King. Should you feel your rights were violated in some way (which is highly unlikely), you may launch a formal complaint by sending a letter to myself and I shall represent you in the matter.
I will also be acting as judge and jury, but I am known for being fair and just so there is no conflict of interest here.
(User was permabanned for this post ("gimmick" - postal))
He's probably trying to drive people to his own community server; last time he hit US Central 1 a few days ago someone put a message in chat shortly after Omega wiped anything telling people to try a certain community server. That was the first community server ad in hours and it came right after Omega struck. Unfortunately I did not get a screenshot but I'll bet you he's trying to drum up business for a community server he wants to monetize (by ads on the website, or whatever).
Dumb.
How is this guy not permabanned from the forums yet?
I'd assume masquerading as a cheater that's been constantly terrorizing the official servers deserves a ban, whether it's actually him or not.
Just give him a dumb and move on.
I like how the person who started this thread, "drloomis82," was banned from the forums, yet Omega is still positing away, taunting people with this nonsense. Yeah, that makes sense. Well done, Facepunch!
Yeah. Unfortunately the moderators on these forums are Nazis.
I don't know about that... there are a lot of assholes here, I think postal and craptasket and the other mods are doing a pretty damned good job considering the amount of pure shit on these forums, especially the Rust subforum lol.
Eh. Some of the bans on here deserved it but others are just trying to help.
The way I see it, if someone who is "helpful" says "hey you broke the rules make sure you read the rules sticky" and the mods don't do anything about it then what are the odds that the person is actually going to read the rules?
On the other hand, they get banned for a day... pretty sure if they want to not get banned again they'll actually read the rules.
Either way, it's unimportant and unrelated. Obviously this Omega person is an asshole, however I just don't understand why people even try to play on the official servers as they are right now.
Undernieth the persons name are a few icons, the little calander one (events) will show why they were banned. In drloomis82 case he was banned for with the reason “missed the servers subforum, make one thread only for your server” in a diffent thread (ie not this one)
With all due respect, the community keeps posting about him because he has been roaming for over a week now, with 0 response from anyone. As far as we know nothing is being done to address this game-breaking situation (although I'm sure there is). This "Omega" has ruined the game for everyone on the official servers, and we cannot even test this "alpha" product at all. The issue, however, is far less disappointing than that of the lack of communication between the developers and its community.
Key points:
-only on the official servers.
-you can test on community servers.
Well said, friend. This hits the "nail on the head."
Edited:
Why ban someone for that? Couldn't a moderator just "warn" the person and move the thread to the sub-forum? Banning seems a bit harsh for this...
I think the point people are trying to make is that the Official servers should have admins, and great DDOS protection because it is the official servers. Someone just buys the game and goes to the official servers to start. All they see is hacking.
Also, Hacking is prevalent in community servers as well. Just not as bad. You also have admin abuse to deal with.
official servers = unplayable east coast 3 has just been wiped of sleeping bags-chests ontop of the endless aoe kills
Easier for a mod to ban you, than redirect / move your thread.
This is from first hand experience.
Very bad moderation here imho, very bad player to company relations in general, as mentioned all so much in this thread.
I missed the days were garry or actual mods logged into the offical servers, i personally had a visit from one, just as the server moved from the website to steam, and he replaced a few doors on my house for me, as it bugged out in the transfur.
To get this kind of interaction now is beyond a joke, most of all with a;; the cash earned, you think there would be MORE of this interaction, not NONE.

$60m+ and counting.
If the thread just gets moved then the person doesn't learn anything... Next thing you know the mods are just forum maids cleaning up after our mistakes.
Also, where did you get the $60mil number? Nowhere in that article does it say $60mil....
Lets do some basic math.
Garrys mod earned $30m+
Rust has SURPASSED It in revenus.
To my count thats a minimum of $60m+ (combined)
Care to double check my calculations ?
Lol uhhh, since when does "surpassed" equal "twice as much"?
The article says that Rust has made 0.34% more than GMod...
So: 30,000,000 * 1.0034 = $30,102,000
EDIT: ahhhhh okay, I get what you're saying now... you're adding the revenue together ahh i see i see...
Still though, just because they have the capitol doesn't mean they can slap it down somewhere and hire a bunch of people and suddenly get quick updates. There's overhead, there's training, there's the people they hire that don't work out...
Things take time... more time than money.
This was done like a week+ ago without a restore. In other words, playing at that server knowing there was not a fix in place was risky assuming you lost everything last week also.
Uh because they were already warned once before lol. If they ignore the first warning, then they get banned, which servers as the second warning to knock it off. Continue to ignore these secondary warnings, and eventually we just get rid of you. That's how facepunch has worked for the last 9 years.
Easier still for people to just read the rules on a forum and learn how it works instead of making a mess.
Edited:
lol not banning someone makes me a nazi? That's a new one.
Edited:
Did you report him?? But regardless i dunno why it'd surprise you we'd ban a spammer faster than someone that's just doing very slight trolling.
