Well today me and my clan started playing on the new Oficial Cheat Punch server thinking "Yes finally a hack free server!!!"... HUGE MISTAKE!!!!

After 30 min gameplay we found 6 diferent players speedhacking , flying , aimboting and 1 major freaking asshole mass killing the entire server...but this time the mass kills instead of showing up like you suicided it made your radiation instantly go up to 10000 , made you bleed like 50 hp per sec and when you die (takes 1 second to kill you) it shows the name of the player that killed you but it says "cant handle condition"... simply mega LOL...

The server had 130 players and in less then 30 min it went down to 20 players...everyone on the server lost everything...the guy mass killed the entire server every 10 seconds for like 20 min while the speedhackers looted the bodies...you literaly didnt even have the time to move when you respawn without him killing you again...

On top of that they kept spaming the chat saying "Facepunch and Garry are noobs they cant even make a proper anti hack!!! We bypassed it in less then 24 hours"

So my question is how long is this going to last??? Its impossible to play Rust at the moment...we tried like 100 diferent servers and they are all absolutly ridled with hackers..they are freaking everywhere...speedhackers , flying guys , no clipers , godmoders , aimboters , ESP users , mass killers , etc... you name it they have it...and they are everywhere...

We are considering giving up on Rust until the hacker situation is sorted...its just a waste of time to play rust right now...

From my gaming experience hackers always crack new anti cheat measures in less then a week...specially games with VAC...just take a look at Counter Strike...it had like 1 million diferent hacks since CS 1.0 until the latest CS:GO ...

All online multiplayer games have hackers...the only solution is 24 hour ADMINS PRESENT!!! It doesnt matter how many anti hack measures you throw at them they will crack them real quick...Face Punch is better off at hiring all of the members of those 15 paying hack sites to work for them making anti hack measures...

Rust will never be 100% hacker-free unless Garry just bans everyone who owns Rust and stops selling keys. Garry knew Cheatpunch would be circumvented, but almost 5,000 cheaters got forced to buy another copy of Rust, and Cheatpunch will be updated to catch the new hacks.

Cheaters versus anticheat programs are a never-ending game of cat and mouse. It only stops when one side either gives up, or the game isn't being played by anyone anymore.

They should do like other gaming companies did...wire the people who are making hacks for his game to work for him preventing hackers instead...

Ok, ok, I got it! Solution! (will never happen but hey, one is allowed to dream?)

    1) raise the price of the game to $100
    2) do another round of the banHammer with an improved facePunch tool
    3) let them buy another copy at $100
    4) use the money to pay for admins on each and every server, plus employ ppl to do just facePunch development.
    5) rinse and repeat

I think after a few of rounds the amount of ppl hacking will be dramatically reduced.

The problem I can't solve, yet, is how to get new players to the game after this...:D as soon as the price is reduced, they'll come back as well. (edit: they=script kiddies)

24 hour present admin is NOT the solution. An admin can ban something they suspect of hacking, or if there is a player who is VERY subtly hacking i.e esp hack to locate player and bases and then just "run" by their base will never be picked up by a human anti hack approach.

The only method is keep updating and updating and updating. When did the first computer virus hit? 1986. It is still going 28 years later and I can guarantee you it will never end. Punkbuster isn't foolproof either. Not sure why people keep suggesting punkbuster but damn I've played enough EA games to run into hackers bypassing PB.

    Worst hiring policy ever.
What would you do with a roomful of confessed video game exploiters?
    How could you trust them?
They would forever be under close scrutiny because they have already sacrificed their integrity for a game.

Yeah, but look at EA. They have an even worse track record with cheaters in their games. And they use Punkbuster, which often has to be manually updated/installed and for all the trouble it often kicks players more often than it bans actual hackers. I've seen servers that were impossible to play on because Punkbuster just kicked everyone 10 seconds after they joined the server.

When I played BF3 (which I still wish I could unbuy) there was a player who actually posted video of themselves hacking on their public Battlelog profile with their overlays visible. It took hundreds of people reporting this person AN ENTIRE MONTH before someone on the EA ban team actually banned them. Don't even get me started on their customer support. And they're a gazillion (actual number) dollar company that produces so-called AAA games.

Way to miss the point. Whiner boy here is saying Garry should hire the hack-writers as staff. That'd double the headcount, all because he can't handle an alpha game that is, at the moment, very vulnerable to hacks because validation hasn't been moved server-side yet.

The quality of games EA publishes and their anti-cheat policies is a completely different subject and is off-topic for this thread.

A game is never properly hack free unless it's built around everything being constantly executed server side. Even this isn't 100%, and it brings a slew of other problems with it.

Look at red orchestra 2, the game is great. However, they made hit detection server side only. This is great to prevent hacking, but it introduces a new problem - You'll have to lead your shots accounting for latency. This means inconsistent shooting experience across server.

The game also has naturally high latency, so it makes it even more tedious as there is a slow as heck bull travel time if you are above, say, 80ms.

Basically, have an non-responsive game constantly, or deal with a few hackers which can be dealt with anti hacking software, but have a game which is consistent and responsive.

Throwing more people at the project is never the best solution unless the goal of the project is to make a really big dogpile on the ground.

Well, I'm definitely not saying hire the hack developers as staff. That would be ridiculous of course. They make a steady stream of cash from the rubes willing to pay for those cheats.

The old "There's hackers in this online game! I quit!" complaint is funny. Companies like EA and Activision do a noticeably worse job and they have far more resources to deal with it.

Even with the disparity of active players in those games versus Rust, they still have an exponentially higher ratio of haxxors (OMG!)

We are considering giving up on Rust until the hacker situation is sorted...its just a waste of time to play rust right now...

The best solution, hit them in their wallet. Blizzard sues Bot developers and that simple process stops most (not all obviously) of the bot developers from even caring to tap that market. The cheat devs don't do it because its fun, they do it for the cash.

Team Fortress 2, Natural Selection 2, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior, Blade Symphony, Borderlands 2, Dota 2, Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, Forge, PAYDAY 2, Primal Carnage, SMITE, League of Legends, War of the Vikings, and those are just the ones in my Steam Library that I can recall.

Of course they're not completely hackerless, no online game is. But I've only seen at most 5 hackers across all those games combined.

Some of these hacks are targeting the server update system somehow. I don't get how a client is telling the server "everyone has AIDS" and the server says "OK, I'll pass that on". This kind of thing shouldn't be happening even if there was no client-side cheat detection.

Absolutely untrue. There are many online games which are 100% hack free. League of legends is hugely popular and hasn't had any hacks for it since beta. I could name many other games that have had cheats completely and permanently eliminated. It is stoppable. Especially in a game that isn't f2p.

That's really not a ton of money these days. That's barely a halfway decent indie movie, let alone a video game. Their "profits" to this day will cover their operating expenses for a while, but by no means allows them to make massive additions to their workforce.

    Here's what will happen.

5000 hackers banned, had to buy new game. They will bypass cheatpunch, so garry will download the cheat, figure out how they did it, and then correct the cheatpunch signature detection. Then 5000 more hackers will be banned, and buy the game again. Then they will bypass cheatpunch. Then garry will download the cheat, figure out how they did it, and correct cheatpunch signature detection. Then 5000 more hackers will be banned and buy the game again.

This will happen until the hackers get tired of buying the game. In the mean time, garry gets richer!

My bet is that in case of rts games, latency is not as such a big problem as it is in fps games, so everything can be done server side, making it impossible to make cheats.
