I've felt the same way and wanted to cheat because I was dying to hackers all the damn time and constantly losing hours of work. Imagine playing a MMORPG and every time you died, back to lvl 1, because hackers blew up your house.

the OP is a cheater. he ruined other people's moments of enjoyment and maybe made them leave. he
harmed the community. hackers are imho the reason for flame wars on the servers and in the forums and overall unfriendly community, because everyone suspects each other of being a cheater and don't trust a legit frag anymore.

you can observe it right now. you and me (two legit players i assume) are bashing each other because of him being a cheater.

they are the reason people badmouth this game which leads to less buyers (money) for facepunch, which leads to less features for the whole community. they compromise the development process by forcing facepunch to put time and effort in anti-cheating measures. this time and money could be used somewhere else.

i didn't harm the community. iam just posting contrary opinions in a forum. but he harmed EVERYONE playing Rust in some way. even the people who don't read this thread.

for me there is a huge difference.

this time could have been used on other things. for example new content. also he supported the hacker community by visiting their websites, maybe providing them with resources (money) to even code more hacks because of the advertisements paid per click.

I completely understand why the OP chose to hack the game in its current state. The hackers are rampant and does not give two shits about ruining the game for others, and the biggest problem is that we can't do anything to "punish" them.

VAC only bans the most blatant hacks (understandable since its such a harsh punishment), and cheatpunch can't catch them all.

In other games where hacking is prevalent, the impact they have is that they remove the fun from your current game session. In rust, they can destroy the fun from all your gaming sessions as they steal your shit, destroy your meticulously crafted house and generally just making life miserable.

This is the problem with hacking and rust. There is such a "reward" for hacking. People won't stop hacking, and they won't get bored untill their metal tower reaches the umpteenth floor. If they get cought by cheatpunch, they simply migrate to another server as it takes them 5 minutes to gather most of the stuff they need.

This game will be destroyed by hackers, mark my words. Either VAC needs to be super agressive and produce alot of false positives, or cheatpunch needs to have a more severe punishment.

Maybe I am funny but I think Rust should have a set of hacker servers.... You get a VAC ban or Cheat punch ban and they throw you in a funky server with no military guns/c4/kevlar and let the hackers have at it. Yes they could still purchase another copy under a different steam ID but this might keep some of em from doing it as it seems that's what most of em are doing anyway. Kind of like throwing the dbags in GTA V in their own groups to PvP each other over and over.


While I don't agree with the OP's methods, I understand his reasoning. No, he didn't ask for forgiveness nor does he deserve it but he does deserve respect for his honesty and willingness to come forward with why he cheated.

Kudos to you OP.... If you buy another copy and go legit let me know... Ill send you some decent servers that have been pretty good about not having cheats on em.

VAC is a permanent ban, but isnt agressive enough. If it was made more agressive it would probably produce alot of false positives (which is not desirable). Cheatpunch does not ban on all servers, meaning cheaters can just migrate.

Permanent ban on all servers for hackers cought by cheatpunch should be sufficient.

it'll be added to all eventually I think, but, really, if someone doesn't use vac or cheatpunch, fuck them. That's their loss. At the cost of players being shit on, and just leaving, that is what servers risk.

aside from an all server ban there really isn't anything more you could do. (although for some of these kids maybe going to their house is the only way to go)

will understand people one day. I've played 110hours of rust in total, 70 of them as a legit player,
that's one of the important points in my main post. Tornado lives in a movie... he figures hackers
