You are taking this the wrong way. Nobody is here to defend cheats.
You are taking this the wrong way. Nobody is here to defend cheats.
No.
i know, i know. don't get me wrong now.
but i disagree that he deserves any respect from us, the legit players. confessing doesn't change anything at my view that he is an immature douchebag. i disrespect him entirely.
imho he just tries to appease his conscience, which we shouldn't give him a platform for. leave him alone without our attention.
This is always the case when a game reaches such a height of awareness.
We can only hope that a lot of the unnecessary whinging goes unnoticed/ignored.
nice one for posting this with the reason why also
i imagine quite a lot came close too using cheats with playing becoming impossible,
learn from it an come back with a new acount an enjoy the game with zero hackers
Ransom2004 UK1 Server
Everyone deserves minimum respect if they give the same.
Being polite and not randomly calling people douchebag still means something to some people.
And from the wording of the OP, it doesn't sound like he is asking for anyone to forgive him. So you are filling yourself with hate for no reason. But thats for you to deal with.
The dude did more than most, by publicly coming out as a cheater... on a forum known for eating cheaters for lunch. Dude stood up and took responsibility for his own actions. It's a shame that this sort of thing is a big deal, but after seeing all the post by begging, lying cowards, denying any culpability for their well earned ban, well, it is a big deal.
I think the guy earned his ban, but he has my respect for not being a douchebag, like some.
That's how i feel.
+1
I've been reading quite a lot about this situation. I think its great that the developers of this game managed to ban 4,500 cheaters (when a lot of online games developers don't really bother with trying to stop cheating)
I think the OP's post is interesting. There have been quite a few people posting in the main thread with similar sentiments of having to cheat in order to combat cheaters.
I don't own Rust (even though i really like the look of it) - reason why is because i had heard that it was plagued with cheaters. At the moment Rust is £14.99 on steam. If i pay money to experience a game with its system of rules and gameplay well i don't spend hours in that game making progress in the game all for a hacker to suddenly appear and reduce everything that i have done to nothing. Essentially ruining the game for legitimate people who bought the game. It is then a total waste of money.
Now in my opinion Garry actually owes an apology to people who bought the game but whose game was ruined by cheaters. Its great that he as a developer has now taken action against cheaters. I do applaud him for that. But to my mind he has an obligation to all the people who bought his game to secure it from cheaters.
I think a lot of people felt forced to download a hack in order to make it a level playing field (in their eyes) because to them...their game is being overrun by cheaters...they've bought a game and now everything they've legitimately done in the game is being undone by cheating scum...what do they do? How long do they wait for the developer to combat this?
From their perspective they will feel they have bought to the game to experience the game...not to constantly be done over by cheaters...and they may have felt the developers were doing nothing to stop the cheaters. If the developer does nothing then you are forced to take action yourself for the game your have paid for.
But like i said i'm glad the developer here has taken action but i do feel sorry for legitimate gamers (or admins of their own servers) in this game who felt forced to download a hack merely to fight against other cheaters or to make safe their own server (which they pay for) against hackers.
Because to their mind, at the time, the developer is NOT helping them. Who will help them in a game they have paid for and a server they pay for?
So here we are now....and we decide to punish those people as being the same as the cheating scum hackers.
Something isn't right there.
i don't did it randomly obviously, but we don't need to be anal about that.
i know where you coming from, but i think you are too nice to him.
you say he "stood up and took responsibility".
i think thats plain wrong. he didn't do it. cheatpunch did it! cheatpunch grabbed him by his balls.
i agree with you that he would deserve some respect if he would confessed BEFORE getting caught. if he would have confessed BEFORE he had been caught and asked for a manual ban on Rust, THEN i would probably start clapping my hands slowly.
but confessing AFTER getting caught? after he has nothing to lose anymore? it's worth nothing to me.
but if thats worth something for you, so be it.
LOL, maybe that's too much. They're cheaters not Madre Teresa de Calcutá.
But anyway, hes probably not doing that again!
ohh dear, oh dear. i think we could discuss all day :p
but i think we can agree on that we will never find that out :p
He said he was going to kill the hackers.. no innocent peepz..
who's to decide whats right or wrong?
in some peoples eyes, everyone that kills them with 3-4 aimed shots from far away with the p250 is a hacker.
or everyone that raids them and replace their walls is clearly a hacker.
the list goes on...
killing hackers will get you nothing.
the ony thing that will happen is, that you are killing also some legal players.
and if those legal players have the mindset the OP has, well, then we have a hacker infested game, thx to you fightin them hackerz.

You know what you do, then? You close the tab and fuck off, you don't come in and start acting like a toddler who hasn't had a nap in three days. Stop being a petulant baby and shitposting to cause drama.
Nobodsy else in this thread is being an aggressive asshole except you. That should tell you something.
Don't aim it towards me, i'm only saying what he posted.
I'm not the poster ;)
ktnxbai
dont worry, i know ^^
Read the post again.
I read the post, but I don't understand why people are sympathizing with this person.
He is a cheat, apparently cheated to combat hackers.... came here and wrote this awesome story about it. Hoping for sympathy for being so honest?
I give 0 shits.
Let us all give hackers who can type nice stories a pat on the back. Job well done.
This is coming from someone who has worked with a legit team to build a massive base... which took 4 days.. only to have 2 hackers esp/fly hack in the black of night to fuck everything up.
You wonder why people have burning hatred for hackers?
Posts like these make my skin crawl.
I think it's more a matter of acknowledging that he isn't being a prick.
So far, everyone agrees that he earned and should keep his ban (as though that mattered.) Great, move on.
It's just nice to see a relatively decent human on the internet every now and then. Even if he is a confessed exploiter.
Howling on about what he did doesn't really do anything. (see the myriad other 'banned' posts in this forum for an example.)
I surprised this thread is still bumping along with the others. Nothing left to do here but pontificate on the fickle nature of hacker hecklers, which should really be it's own thread imo.

-not needed-
I agree with you.. maybe I am being a prick..
But I have been screwed over so many times that my blood starts to boil when I hear the word hacker.
Good, now i wish there was a way we could keep you and your hacker victims away for good. I never hacked, i don't have this glorified story to tell, but for some reason it makes me feel all tingly inside when i see a hacker get banned, and if i met you in an alley somewhere irl i would not hesitate to knock you the fuck out.
That is completely understandable. Nobody likes it when someone ruins your work.
I wish we had better ways of dealing with them in more than just Rust. As has been stated before, it will be an ongoing battle.

:/
Sometimes I feel like the floor is falling out from under me.
This is where I should just walk away.
Tons of liberals on the forums i see.
Makes perfect sense though, sense most gamers are unemployed
Do you have any statistics, any facts to back that up
I've read your comments, and for ethical reasons it was important for me to tell you this -
I am from Israel (please do not turn this into a religious debate thread, this is merely a real life metaphor for you to expand your general perception and understanding),
Palestinian leaders occasionally dispatch suicide bombers with the hope they'll reach across the border, obviously to blow us the fuck up.
Yet... I don't hate them, at all. I just can't. Why? BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND, because I have the ability to look at the world through the eyes of others.
Each person has his own unique perspective and point of view, different decisions, different actions, different way of thinking...
BUT AT THE END, all of us do the things we do, because we want to be happy.. all of us, just seeking happiness, and that's it.
Once you understand that, it becomes easier for you to realize what's really going on with people within your social environment, what's the meaning behind their words and actions.
Because nobody wants to be a "scum".. right?
So here goes my question now. I do not hate Palestinians, yet by the way you talk, you would totally stone me, for hacking a video game due to frustration.
Sounds reasonable? you tell me.
You're right, I wasn't seeking forgiveness/attention, literally no point doing that..
I was hoping hackers would read this, who knows, even if only one hacker turned legit after reading this - then my job is done..
And, as a person who hated hackers himself, but then became one of them, it was also important for me
that legit players won't forget hackers are humans. Legit = good people , hackers = bad people?.. it just doesn't work like that, not in the adult world.
Thank you for your comment!
Sympathy? what's the point looking for sympathy here? we're all anonymous to each other, how good will it make me feel lol?
Read above Jimmy.
Couldn't quote everybody, so I've just copy/pasted your nicknames, it was important for me as you guys proved there IS in fact reason in this forum:
Zimph , SteakStyles , SirZiggy , Daze507 , rizzeh , freefall1103 , Reconzile , Ransom2004 , Bola , Zerinth , elixwhitetail , GePree00
Thank you guys for your useful comments.
-snip-
Interesting, the OP is a good read and has a much higher intellect then 90% the retards spouting DURR HACKER GOT PWNT xDDD.
Go make another account and bypass the ban. Done.
You come off as being one of the most whining bitches in the world, literally read some of your reply's and it's laughable at your existence :D
It was people like you who brightened my day back when suicide hackers and aimbotters dominated the official servers. Hope you come back.
Wrong comment..
Total respect for you. Mang
Are you joking? Back when suicide hacking Koreans were running all over the place, it was people like this guy who acted as surrogate admins. As long as a "good" hacker was on the server, the normal crowd of hackers barely bothered me at all. Maybe you can be justified in your statement if the devs were prudent enough to appoint admins for the official servers, but since they aren't it's been people like these who have kept the game playable.
Way to man up bud
Why do so many people have absolutely zero reading comprehension on the internet? the OP isn't asking to be unbanned, he isn't asking for Sympathy, he's just owning up to what he did. If there were more "honest" hackers it'd help game devs patch the holes in their games and get back to developing instead of spending half their time fighting cheats.
I can feel where he's coming from, for a while I was half-heartedly trying to get a crosshair overlay to work after being killed multiple times by a people with bows who were so far away they looked like a speck. If I was in charge and overgenius didn't have any other vac bans, I'd find a way to let him buy the game again on the same steam account and let him start fresh.
I've been here for 8 years about, I think I know a shit poster when I see one. Cheaters are still human beings, and you're just a cynical fucking obnoxious kid. It's pretty obvious you don't belong here.
he owned up to being a little dick and cheating.
but will you own up to your immaturity? no, you won't. You aren't half as mature as a quarter of OP.
you know who else doesn't deserve respect? people that act like you.
if I owned a server I'd let him on it any day.
want to see my argument?
Have fun. someone has to stand up for OP so he doesn't feel like shit. Might as well have been me.
Troll or not, no one likes people like you here.
Umm, I didn't wanna post anything else in this thread anymore
since my last post was pretty much an outro.
And I didn't expect to see it on the first page again,
so since it was kinda hard for me to ignore ur post, there goes:
1. Thanks.
2. Calling someone a "little dick" (words which u could have easily spared) or
any other similar insult for that matter, most of the time, comes off to me as some
sort of act of self compensating, for either lack of attention, other troubles or whatnot.
3. "stand up for OP" - Thanks again, but I can stand up for myself, and I think I showed it
in my last post, at least I believe so.
While reading your post, I couldn't help but associate you with a kid who's trying to look cool.
Good luck in life buddy, and I really mean it, no hidden sarcasm.
If a game was that unfun, I wouldn't hack. I just wouldn't play anymore.
Edited:
I don't quite get how you consider yourself good at looking through other people's eyes, but then do things to perpetuate issues like say "Couldn't help but associate you with a kid who's trying to look cool" and "Calling someone a little dick, words which could've easily been spared.... comes off as some sort of act of self compensating". You really could've spared yourself that last post there. When I see inconsistency within a single sentence like that, or that you are unable to stick to an outro (or even just the OP), it makes me question your convictions and fortitude. I imagine you being on a community server, getting frustrated yet again for some reason, and resorting back to hacking. Then, afterwards, another attempt to justify it which is ironic since, as you said, your message was to hackers. So why should it matter what anonymous nonhackers think?
So, I obviously don't agree with why you hacked and I believe you are still trying to justify it. It's all fine and good to try to turn a negative and a positive. But I'm not buying into the complete illusion either. You're more articulate and mature than some in these forums and I can agree with the idea of providing a warning for future hackers, but I can't give you much more credit than that especially if you still can't seem to say your peace and let it drop.
P.S. So, here's your opportunity. You've said your peace, hopefully by now. Let it drop.
If you stay out of the Rust subforum you will escape most of the idiots; it was made to contain them like a mental asylum.
That's all I read and I do not really care. Reason why you post this 1 hour typed up post is to get attention. Go outside and get a life.
Don't worry bro, I won't let it drop, because you're definitely getting your slow claps and bravo.
Seriously, it's like you've been sitting in the corner, waiting for the chance to show how brilliant you are. Consider this an achievement.
Do I agree with you? No, because my method is - spit the truth at him,
he'll wipe it off and become a better person. You found some sort of aggression
in my post that you quoted, only because you wanted to find it, I honestly did not
intend it to be read the way you've read it in your mind, which happens to be of a very high level... or umm, that's what you wanted to show us, right?
Good luck to you too, and once again, I do mean it.
