Here's my oh so sincere confession right out of the blue (no idea why I'm doing this).
I've spontaneously read a review about Rust, immediately liked it, as it seemed that if
Minecraft and DayZ would screw each other under the moonlight, baby Rust would be the outcome.
My first few hours playing Rust were freakin' awesome, I've felt like no other online game could
mess with your emotions like that - whether if you're naked and cold, lost in the darkness of night,
desperately looking for animals to bash as your calories are running out. Or if you somehow got lucky
and quickly managed to stabilize your status and gear up, wearing the cool all-black Kevlar set,
aiming an MP5 at a guy who's just about to piss his pants, begging you to let him be..
It was awesome, and it felt awesome. Hours passed so quick, even though I'm not a kid
anymore and can't afford to spend that much time in front of the PC - I didn't care, I was
"in the zone" too deep, Rust just does that... Because it's okay to be late for work, I HAVE
TO FINISH MY TOWER, otherwise my stuff won't be safe, and I don't want that.
A few days have passed, and then suicide exploiters kicked it... official servers became almost unplayable.
Lost lots of loot, but kept on playing since the issue was finally fixed. A few more days have passed,
And at this point, I am no longer a newbie, I am not that naked guy who doesn't know what's going on anymore..
I'm freakin dangerous now, forgot about wood since now I'm all about metal, and I have a BUNCH of stuff.
I'm walking down the road now, but hey.. wait.. was that a flying dude just now?! wtf was that. WHAT?
WHERE DID THAT HEADSHOT COME FROM?? oh no.. a full kevlar set and ammunition and stuff.. lost to some kind of an hacker.
Nevermind! still got plenty of more stuff in my tower! I should try and go hunting again. WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?!
Everybody's flying and running extremely fast, hitting me right in the head, ALWAYS.. screw this, better log off for now,
I'm sure Garry's team will take care of it. Log on the day after, and... VOILA! Literally 70 hours of gameplay were STOLEN from me by a hacker,
who only had to use his super jump to reach the top of my tower directly and gain easy access to ALL the stuff I've worked hard to get.
70 hours.. taken from me, by HACKS. I am furious at that point, mad as shit. What I should have done, wasn't what I eventually did.
Because 30 minutes later I found myself on Google, searching "Rust hacks". I've never hacked an online game, but I was so pissed my ears went full red.
I wanted to quickly get my hard earned stuff back, and get a revenge on each and every hacker on the server.
Hack is on, and I'm logged in. At first I've felt super-bad about this, thinking to myself "God.. I am suppose to be a grownup".
I've felt like there's no point to kill legit players, or straight off make teenagers feel virtually miserable,
as I didn't want anybody to be as pissed at me as I was pissed at the hacker who got me. Rust became a whole different experience for me now...
This is no longer PVP, this is HVH. Remember the phrase, "Go fight someone your own size"? that's exactly what I did, and I enjoyed it, A LOT.
A lot of people in the server actually got to know me, and referred to me as "the good hacker"... it's a bit funny, it's a bit awkward,
But it's the truth. I deserve to be banned, I take full responsibility and I do understand it was my own fault,
Even though I never planned to hack, even though my intentions were different. So I just wanted to say -
Garry, you're doing a great job. You're good at coming up with concepts, and obviously you got some moves..
At that same moment of anger which made me download the hacks, I should have relaxed and trusted you enough to be sure you have a plan for this.. I didn't, and that's my fault.
People, don't hack.. or you'll just end up thinking "wtf am I doing. this isn't fun". Don't ruin this game, it has tons of potential to be a groundbreaking standard setter.
Good luck Garry.
