Hello! I have recently realised you can research the Research Kits! Facepunch may want to fix this but yeah.. What you need to do is get 2 research kits and as you go to research one of them (By a workbench) you need to hold down right shift.

Word will get out about this. If it ends up intentional all long someone is going to be quite sad that their Research Kit trade racket isn't going to be as profitable.

I'm wondering if this can't be used to then bypass and crafting limits a server my impose on a person, i.e. servers where c4/modern weapons crafting have been disabled.

Facepunch may be adding the possibility in the future but you had it "locked" until an update, and it is pretty easy to do a mistake in code. :P

No reason to go full on herpaderp without checking first, then ;)

Also, a simple 1 minute search would have sufficed to trivialize your 400+ hours' worth of experience in the game

Well, please explain why not update notes have this, and this was posted in January 2014, I would only have to go back a few updates to see.

Just because an admin can drop placeholder items doesn't mean that they actually exist in the game in it's intended form.

The ability to "research" research kits is plain stupid, and equivalent to asking a genie for more wishes! Obviously, a glaring error on the part of the devs. Don't depend on this being possible in the next update.

Hopefully it'll be moot in the long run as they implement "higher level workbenches" that will allow higher-end items to be "researched" without any need to have a kit, or original item.

    Google.

    Semantics.

Also this was the original quote they jumped on:

No, they were 100% correct. On official servers, which is the defacto baseline experience for the game, research kit blueprints do not exist. This is a fact, not semantics.

If admins want to add mods, or tweak the loot tables, then it's no longer the same game, so it's a meaningless comparison.

I never addressed their replies. I addressed 3lindNinja's claims, which were legitimate, but received ill-conceived bad ratings.

Also, nobody brought up the normative ideals of whether the devs should or should not implement RK blueprints. Clearly you thought it apt in your stride to cover this in your reply, which nobody had insinuated.

tl;dr - learn to read and respond to arguments

No, you and they are both 100% incorrect. If an item is in the asset files and bound to an itemid within the engine, then it exists. The same way the uber hatchet, uber hunting bow, invisible armor, and car exist. Simply because something is unobtainable by the average player does not negate its existence. Please discontinue stating factually incorrect "facts" in the future.

Why do you need to hold down right shift?

When researching anything else you just drag the research kit over top the item when you are in range of a workbench?

It may have been delayed for next updates and they just had a little 'secret' thing to keep it locked.
