so last month i purchased a server. I saw that they had bad reviews but i bit the bullet and went with them. To my surprise the server was working well and my tickets were being answered if i had issues.

I thought to myself 'this is madness, HFB are awesome' but oh did i speak too soon. I have currently been left without a working server for 6 days coming up to 7 days.

After sending in a ticket asking for a refund i was met with a response from their incompetent manager 'Mark' who told me due to their ToS they are not able to give refunds. They are not giving me the service that i paid for which in my opinion makes their terms null and void? am i right in thinking this? time to do a paypal chargeback me thinks.

Anyway to sum things up. Avoid HFB like the plague. I didn't like reading all the hate towards HFB on the forums but I've come to realise why.

Why has your server been offline for 6 days? Did you send in a ticket to see what was going on with the server before waiting an entire week?
I mean... this week has been rough for EVERY server host due to the recent Rust updates. They were causing massive memory leaks, hence poor server performance and crashing.

They certainly have their share of issues, it's too bad really because when I had an HFB server it always worked great (when it was online).
My server got DDoS'ed once, but it was only a problem for a few hours. Other than that my server was really very stable.
If HFB would communicate with their customers better I think they'd get a better rep. If there's an issue that's affecting many users then send out an email! Let people know that you're on it rather than making everyone wait 24+ hours for a ticket response. It takes less than 5 minutes to send out a short email to all Rust server owners regarding issues.

Apparently my server was being ddossed on the first day. Now they refuse to answer ANY ticket when i ask when or if my service will return. They wont even offer me any alternatives like change of IP or server location. I think you are missing the point by the way, must be a HFB fan boy. I will type more clearly so that you understand.. MY SERVER HAS BEEN SHOWING STATUS UNKNOWN FOR 6-7 DAYS.

Okay thanks for clarifying in a condescending way. THAT MEANS YOU HAVE BEEN GETTING DDOS'D AND THE DATA CENTER NULL ROUTED YOUR SERVER.

All I'll say is I've had an HFB for a couple weeks, and aside from one Sunday afternoon for an hour because of DDoS, it has been rock solid.

route routed for 7 days? got an update by the way... they literally just offered me a change of location after i opened a dispute with pay pal. They have offered to change my location from Chicago to Quebec. Very pointless alternative seeing as anyone who wanted to play from Chicago wouldn't join the Quebec server.

HFB is a fucking garbage host that often leaves you stranded without functioning servers for days without any contact.

I'm going to call bullshit on this. HFB brings their f'ing servers offline for 12+ hours with a null route for ANY DDoS. Mine is down yet again. At least 3 days of the week this shit server is down.

    Edited:

I AGREE. Ditch them. I'm going through the process now.

Confirming HFB sucks as a host. Would you like me to link the other threads talking about how much? There are a bunch.

I had them for 5 days before switching to Nitrous Networks.

I can confirm that HFBServers IS FUCKING AWFUL, within the first week my server was down for 72+ hours, because of "DDoS", tell me, who the hell is wasting time DDoSing a server with 2-3 players on it? How about instead of Null Routing my server for 12-24 hours at a time they fix their god damn problem. I will NEVER use HFB again and would rather light a $20 bill on fire then give it to that joke of a server hosting company.

Seconded. And in case they are looking at these forums my ticket number is #275439. I have no other way to contact them, and it has been 14 hours of server downtime. I just want to retrieve my latest world/player data files as they have no automatic backup method available.

If you people would learn how pricing works.... HFB is a cheap discount host. What do you honestly think you will get out of that?

Want a solid server and pay an actual server price? Go to Playrust.eu or some other host that actually has the hardware and support to back them. HFB probably barely makes a profit with the exception of hosting hundreds of servers with just a few people on them, if that.

I wish NFOServers would pick up Rust because I have a long and in good standing relationship with NFO and know they provide some of the best quality service out there. Quickly resolve server issues, often on their own, and their support is open like 18 hours a day.

Also, to all you nerds who heard DDoS and immediately "knew" exactly what it was.... Resolving the DDoS, particularly from a data center standpoint is far more complex and important.

I expect to get a timely response to my tickets. I expect to get support “day or night.” I expect their “experienced staff to assist me in locating issues.” They set their price points and if that isn't covering costs they can raise the damn price.

Fair warning - I did the same (swap from HFB to nitrous). My server goes down nightly for hours at a time. I see consistent 2% packet loss. They are more responsive to tickets than HFB, but just as poor at offering solutions.

I recently moved from HFB Servers, my server was receiving constant DDoS attacks every 24 hours 12PM PST on the dot. This agitated me slightly, what didn’t help the situation was the response times to HFB servers tickets, I would get DDoS’ed, server would be null-routed, I would open a ticket & then 12 hours later the server would be back up.
If anyone is looking to purchase a Rust server here is a little insight:
HFB Servers are of a high standard, they run smoothly and have a nice low latency. The only concern is their support it can sometimes take between 24-48 hours to receive a response to what might be an urgent request.
Alongside this I would recommend buying into the HFB Protection Plan as there is way too much in the way of DDoS attacks going on across Rust servers.

I recently moved my server over to Ideal-Hosting (PlayRust.EU), I have to admit the response times on tickets are a lot better and US servers come with 10gbps DDoS protection, Don’t get me wrong here I’m not saying “BUY IT NAOW” unfortunately there is a flaw from what I can see in the way IH do their DDoS protection.
If anyone else has another insight or can correct me please do, I’m not trying to deliberately slander a company with false information this is just what I have sussed out.
I have exchanged a few emails with the company providing IH with their DDoS protection which is called Black Lotus, Since the swap I have been concerned with my latency on the IH servers which is sat at around 90ms when with HFB it sits comfortably at 30ms, IH servers are hosted in Dallas, TX and from what I can understand from Black Lotus they’re using a Remote Protection Plan, this is all fine however, the Black Lotus Databank is located in Los Angeles and in an email between myself and a sales rep of Black Lotus they confirmed that remote protection for “Game Servers” does add latency.
This has come to no surprise to me as not only is there a couple of extra jumps till you reach the server, for myself its going from East to West then back to the East (Ish) this causes me grave concern with my server.

Please keep in mind I am not writing this to slander either company just to be informative as to what you may be buying into.

FPSPlayers is "better", my server is always up, but the issue is that there are still a lot of lag issues and, from my experiance, if you install a pluggin that is outdated it will corrupt ALL of your server data and you will have to reinstall the whole thing, but on the plus they have ALOT bettere customer support and actually email their customers when needed

I've switched from HFB to multiplay and couldn't be happier. The ClanForge system is miles ahead of TCAdmin 2 system most other service providers including HFB use.

HFB seems short staffed and spiteful. I don't know if it's just the way I perceive these posts and my experience with them but it was like getting kicked in the balls by someone and then to have them console you later in the day then it didn't matter anymore.

The server I play on has been down for several days as well and the admins still haven't received any help to get it back on. :(
