I don't know about if we will be able to go into water, but they are going to be making the map A LOT bigger. I think we are operating on 20% of the size of what the map is supposed to be.

The map as its stands for now is already really big - but most of it is wasteland, which means there are only trees and no res stockpiles.

I think there will be rivers and lakes because you need water in later versions of the game.
And i read there will be the ability to fish.

from there trello page and the news they are working on a new map , it looks like they will be having lakes and rivers etc in either the existing map or the new map they are working on
